25.01.2022 Speaking about rotator cuff repairs and how to increase the success rates for repairs at the Royal North Shore Hospital Symposium on Friday. Several large international studies have reported retear rates of 30 to 40% following rotator cuff repair surgery. It is important to find better ways to repair these tears. I don’t think I would want to be a patient undergoing an operation with a 40% failure rate. Another fantastic meeting. Congratulations to Ben Cass and Allan Young for arranging such a great meeting. Thanks for inviting me to speak! #shouldersurgery #rotatorcuffsurgery #rotatorcuffrepairsurgery

24.01.2022 I have really enjoyed having Anas Malkawi with me for the last few weeks. Anas is an Orthopaedic surgeon working in Germany. Anas took a couple of weeks holiday and came to Australia with his girlfriend, a registered nurse, to spend a few weeks with me. Anas grew up in Jordan. He completed Orthopaedic training in Germany where he now works as an Orthopaedic surgeon. Anas was excellent company. We have had a nice couple of weeks together. Anas got to see a lot of interesti...ng shoulder operations and was a guest of the Queensland Shoulder Society at our recent scientific meeting with guest speaker Allan Wang from Perth. Anas and his girlfriend were able to enjoy a lot of what Brisbane has to offer on the weekends visiting Stradbroke Island and the Goldcoast. I hope that I get a chance to visit Anas back home in Germany sometime in the next couple of years.

24.01.2022 Thank you to Zimmer Biomet for inviting me to chair their Advanced Shoulder Symposium in Sydney with Prof John Sperling from the Mayo Clinic. It was a terrific meeting with a host of national faculty. It was a real pleasure to have John Sperling and David Schneider as our international guest speakers. As always my favourite part of the meeting was the round table discussion hosted by John Sperling on Friday night. I always learn a lot from John. Thanks to David Brezzo for seeing this meeting come together and to Anna Mitchell and Melissa Ng for all their hard work. It was terrific to work with Zimmer Biomet in putting this programme together. It is exciting to see companies like Zimmer Biomet investing so much into medical education. #shoulder #shouldersurgery Zimmer Biomet

19.01.2022 I love stories. Christine told me an endearing story this week that I want to share. I fixed Christine's fractured shoulder nine months ago, Thursday was her last visit. When I told Christine, it was her final visit to see me she mentioned she wished she had brought her granddaughter with her like for the previous appointment. ... When I asked her why, Christine explained that after her last appointment her eight-year-old granddaughter, whom she had been homeschooling because she had been refusing to go to school, declared that when she grew up, she wanted to be a surgeon like Dr Cutbush. Christine pointed out that to be a surgeon she would have to go back to school and even university. Taking this information in, Christine’s granddaughter looked up at her with a thoughtful expression and asked whether Dr Cutbush’s secretaries went to university? Christine’s granddaughter is now back at school. After school, she plays with her two-year-old brother, as they do. She has him play doctor and; not so sure she wants to go to university; she plays secretary. Her little brother, being two, struggles with pronouncing Cutbush, they call the game Dr Tutbush’s.

17.01.2022 My two buddies Ella and Beckett. They are a great help on Sundays when I'm working back at the office. They never get tired of watching me......

09.01.2022 Congratulations Ashish on your paper in the Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery looking at suprascapular nerve blocks for patients undergoing shoulder surgery. It's such an important topic making sure our patients have good pain control after shoulder surgery. Suprascapular nerve blocks are a great addition to postop rotator cuff surgery pain relief. Excellent contribution to the knowledge base! Read the full article https://bit.ly/2SU1BLi Ashish Gupta #shouldersurgery #shoulder #shoulderpain
