25.01.2022 TRAINING CANCELLED MON. 23 March & WED 25 March. Please note that with the temporary closing of Tarragindi Fitness, we have decided to cancel training this week so that we can work on a longer-term training plan. Our apologies for the inconvenience and we will keep you updated of any changes.
25.01.2022 Half way through the week 4 challenge: The Priest (Pendeta) & The Princess (Putri). To celebrate, here is a flash-back to one of our favourite photos with both in application.
24.01.2022 Less than one week out from the Dasar grading. Look forward to seeing everyone on the mats next Monday from 6:30pm
24.01.2022 TARRADINDI PD CHALLENGE - WEEK 1 (29 Mar - 4 April). Unfortunately we have had to cancel training for the upcoming week (29 March - 4 April) due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Nonetheless, the instructors at Tarragindi PD are always willing to help with the boredom and have therefore decided to commence with a weekly challenge. As this is the first week we have decided to postpone the 1000 burpees challenge and go with the following: Adults: 250 side kick reps (1 rep = 1 ...left & 1 right) Kids: 125 side kick reps (1 rep = 1 left & 1 right) Alternates: If cant do side kicks, replace them with knee kicks (gejug) or another side attack (no front on attacks). The challenge itself is not mandatory but notes will be taken, emails sent and vengeance had once back on the mats! While we are also a trusting lot at Tarragindi PD, we have also seen how some of you complete your push-ups. Accordingly, proof of training will also be required (preferable a photo attached to the comments section of this post).
24.01.2022 Please note that the recommencement of training has been confirmed for Wednesday 8th July for adults and Monday 13th July for kids. The details are still being finalised and will be sent out to Tarragindi PD members over the coming days. In the interim, Tarragindi PD are officially going to the birds. For the latest weekly challenge, our focus will be on Mliwis, Kuntul and Garuda. Specifically: Adults -... * 250 Mliwis moves; 250 kuntul moves; 250 garuda moves * Vengeance prep work: 100 Burpees, 150 push ups, 250 sit ups, 300 squats, 350 star jumps Kids - * 100 moves each of Mliwis, kuntul, garuda * Raingkaian 3 times each (see videos on PD dropbox) * Vengeance prep work: 25 Burpees, 50 push ups & sit ups, 100 squats & star jumps All fantastic techniques with inherent strengths and weaknesses. Make sure you use the transition from mliwis to kuntul and garuda to explore each, their targets and their application. For those of you playing at home, this weeks challenge is proudly brought to you by the irrepressible and irreplaceable Mr E and The Eels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwJr9Rniofc

20.01.2022 Welcome Back Tarragindi PD! Massive effort this week and a great way to blow off the cobwebs. Many thanks to all of our fantastic and resilient members who supported our small club over the last 3 months. Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the mats on Monday (Kids) from 6:30 pm and Wednesday (Adults) from 7:15 pm.
19.01.2022 Less than 12 hrs till training. Focus of the night will be bag work & Asli (forms) FUN FACT Nobody who has attended a Wednesday night session @ Tarragindi PD has been involved in a fatal bear attack. Coincidence? We think not.
19.01.2022 Our Dasar students putting in the hard yards in the lead up to their November grading @ Tarragindi Fitness.
17.01.2022 NO TRAINING MONDAY. No training this Monday due to the public holiday. Training resumes on Wednesday where vengance will be had and penance paid for your collective partying with Queen E!
17.01.2022 REMINDER Our first post-COVID 19 training session will be held for our red belts this Sunday @ 3pm. Please remember: 1) Stay home if you are feeling unwell (there will always be another training session); ... 2) Bring a towel, hand sanitiser and water 3) Prepare for vengeance! The training session will be followed by a planning meeting and it would be greatly appreciated if people could hang around to discuss options.
17.01.2022 1 day till training where you will all be punished for the lazyness displayed by your assistant instructor over the last 7 days.
15.01.2022 TARRAGIDNI PD CHALLENGE WEEK 8 (17 -23 May) With the social restrictions starting to relax we are officially one step closer to the matts. This week (17 23 May) we are going to keep things simple, albeit with the same extra encouragement & support. Adults -... * 1000 moves * Weekly Encouragement: 100 Burpees, 150 push ups, 250 sit ups, 250 squats, 250 star jumps Kids - * 400 moves including your langkah (footwork) form * Raingkaian 3 times each (see videos on PD dropbox) Please note, that at Tarragindi PD that being ready to train is now not acceptable. In 2020 we expect you to be montage ready. Accordingly, anyone who has not been chased up stairs while being serenaded by an inspiring instrumental is already behind the eight ball. https://media.giphy.com/media/uokhSmdmyfh2o/source.gif
15.01.2022 Terrific effort last night by everyone who participated and passed their grading last night. Many thanks also to the seniors who oversaw the grading, our non-grading members who assisted and to all of the family members for their ongoing support of our small class. Below is a small snippet of two of our junior members working through part of their material. More photos to come then it is on to next week where the focus will be on sweeps, takedowns, rolls, IPSI and push-ups (many, many push-ups).
14.01.2022 RED BELT TRAINING - SUNDAY 19TH JULY @ 8.30AM. Its on, on like Donkey Kong!
13.01.2022 TARRAGIDNI PD CHALLENGE WEEK 10 (31 May - 6 June) The good news is that todays announcement regarding the easing of social restrictions should allow Tarragindi PD to begin training again in the near future. Keep watching this space as we piece together a training plan / schedule with Tarragindi Fitness. In the interim, we will continue on with our weekly challenge. This week we are going to build on the work we did with letut (knee) and selosor (groin kick) and focus on t...heir natural extension to front kick and teratai. For this week our goal will be Adults - * 250 front kick; 250 teratai; 250 hempis * Weekly Encouragement: 100 Burpees, 150 push ups, 250 sit ups, 300 squats, 350 star jumps Kids - * 100 front kick; 100 teratai; 100 hempis * Raingkaian 3 times each (see videos on PD dropbox)
13.01.2022 RED BELT TRAINING - Sunday (26th July) from 8.00am. Please note, these sessions are the only thing standing between you and an early demise during the upcoming zombie apocalypse
11.01.2022 TARRAGINDI PD CHALLENGE - WEEK 7 (10 - 16 May) With the social restrictions starting to be relaxed we are slowly inching towards having our first park training session. Until then we will continue to kick on with our weekly challenge. In honour of the night Mas Wes got us to all to fight dragons (see indisputable photographic evidence below), this weeks challenge will focus on Naga. Adults -... * 350 moves Naga, 250 groin (selosor) or knee (gejug) kicks * Weekly Encouragement: 100 Burpees, 150 push ups, 250 sit ups, 250 squats, 250 star jumps Kids - * 150 moves of Naga, 100 groin (selosor) or knee (gejug) kicks * Raingkaian 3 times each (see videos on PD dropbox) * Weekly Encouragement: 20 Burpees, 50 push ups, sit ups, squats, star jumps Remember, Naga is more than just arms. It is the whole body and a fantastic avenue to explore your body movement, crashing through an opponent and taking an opponents position. Find your target, drive with the body and train with intent. And as always, photographic evidence is a must.
10.01.2022 12 hours till Adults / Senior Levels training where we assume everyone will be as fired-up as an ex-girlfriend listening to Alanis Morissette on repeat.
09.01.2022 TARRAGINDI PD CHALLENGE, WEEK 4 (19 - 25 April) - THE PRIEST (PENDETA) & THE PRINCESS (PUTRI) Well done to everyone who touched base over the last week and completed the challenge. This weeks challenge is proudly brought to you by our fearless leader (pictured) and will focus on our two highest techniques: Pendeta (the Priest) and Putri (the Princess). As an added bonus, this weeks challenge also includes a host of moves thanks to all you neer do wels, loiter-sacks and no...n-photo submitting absconders (thats right, Tarragindi PD is not afraid to go Medieval on your backside!). This week, we are aiming to complete the following: * Adults: 300 moves Pendeta, 300 moves Putri, 200 knees/elbows, 50 Garuda, 25 sidekick reps * Kids: 100 moves Pendeta, 100 moves Putri, 50 knees/elbows * Group punishment for non-compliance: Adults = 50 Burpees, Push-ups, Sit-ups, Squats & Star Jumps; Kids = free pass. Pendeta & Putri have a host of attacks, blocks and avoidance strategies so remember to use a variety of moves. But dont discount the benefits of training of just one or two moves (e.g. just sikap) in order to improve your technique. As always, names will be taken and photographic evidence is mandatory for anyone wanting to avoid a Hunger Games type scenario.
09.01.2022 Week 2 completed, names enshrined in hieroglyphs and recalcitrant-burpee count re-calibrated. On with Week 3 and the big steps in small spaces challenge. For this weeks festivities we will be focusing on some of our close-in attacks, namely knees and elbows: * Adults: 500 elbows/knees, 200 moves of Garuda; 50 sidekicks... * Kids: 250 elbows/knees * All: 35 Burpees for group non-compliance The name of the game this week is speed. Elbows and knees are the lead in for our hand and leg attacks so keep your focus on short / sharp movements. As always, only photos will suffice as evidence of participation and for all you recalcitrant / fence sitters please note: a) Were not angry, just disappointed (got that one from mum); and b) Group punishments are like PD hairstyles in the 1980s, things are going to get worse before they get better.
09.01.2022 Next generation back on the mats for another massive effort. Training continues at Tarragindi PD for Adults & senior belts Wednesday @ 7.15pm.
08.01.2022 Red Belt Training @ Tarragindi PD, Sunday morning (23rd Aug) from 8am. If you are in the neighbourhood please come along. It is a great way to catch up with old friends and spend an hour or so trying to punch them in the face.
08.01.2022 RED BELTS ASSEMBLE! Red belt training this Sunday 12th July @ Tarragindi PD from 8:30 am.
08.01.2022 A few more photos from the Tarragindi PD end of year grading. Congratulations again to all who participated (my apologies to everyone that is missing in action below)
07.01.2022 TARRAGINDI PD CHALLENGE - WEEK 6 (3 - 9 May) Week 5 completed and on to Week 6 of the Tarragindi PD challenge. For those of you playing at home, welcome to below the belt week. For this weeks challenge the focus will be on the myriad of attacks to the lower half of the body e.g. jejak (foot stomp), selosor (groin kick), pacul (heel kick to the groin), gejug (knee kick), kuda kiningan (foot trap), lingsang / garak roboh. The good news is that with everyone putting in a fan...tastic effort, the overlords @ Tarragindi PD have decided to reward you all and cancel the non-compliance penalties for this week (you can thank us later). We have also come to the conclusion that encouragement is a better motivator than fear. So without further adieu, the challenge for this week is: Adults - * 750 moves / attacks targeting the lower half of the body * Weekly Encouragement: 100 Burpees, 150 push ups, 200 sit ups, 200 squats, 200 star jumps Kids - * 300 moves / attacks targeting the lower half of the body * Raingkaian 3 times each (see videos on PD dropbox) * Weekly Encouragement: 20 Burpees, 50 push ups, sit ups, squats, star jumps Remember to train with intent, dont be lazy and find the target. Also keep the photos coming through as it is great to see you all in action in your makeshift training areas. NOTE - Few issues with our email this week but we will touch base with everyone as soon as we can.
06.01.2022 TARRAGINDI PD CHALLENGE - WEEK 1 (29 Mar - 4 April) Half way through the first Tarragindi PD challenge. For posterity, here is an old one of a flying Bruce Baldwin who we are reliably informed is around three-quarters the size of Bruce Banner and at least 6 shades of green lighter.
05.01.2022 While the situation is fairly fluid, training will be on this week and be reviewed on a day-to-day basis. In saying that, we understand if people will be minimising their outside exposure over the next few weeks. For those of you who are planning on coming along this week: Please wash your hands before training plus when you leave the gym and head home to their loved ones. Hand sanitiser will also be provided at the door. With it being a martial arts class, it will be a ...bit more of a challenge to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. We will however shift the focus of our class to individual forms / grading material vs. face-to-face material. It is requested that anyone who feels unwell or has flu-like symptoms stays home and rests. Similarly, it would be greatly appreciated if everyone could keep the instructors informed if your circumstances change. Where possible we will keep people up to date with what is going on. The number one priority being the health and wellbeing of our members and their family. There is a lot of information floating around at the moment about COVID-19 and what we should and shouldnt be doing. For those of you who would like to know more, we strongly suggest that you seek advice from State and Commonwealth Departments of Health: Queensland Department of Health: www.health.qld.gov.au Commonwealth Department of Health: www.health.gov.au Similarly, while the Tarragindi crew are a resilient bunch, there are number of excellent services available if you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed about the current situation. While not exhaustive, these include: Kids helpline: Website: www.kidshelpline.com.au; Phone: 1800 551 800. Headspace: Website: www.headspace.org.au; National Phone. (07) 9027 0100. Headspace (Woolloongabba): Phone: (07) 3249 2222; After Hours Email: [email protected] Lifeline: Website: www.lifeline.org.au; Phone: 13 11 14. Beyond Blue: Website: www.beyondblue.org.au; 1300 22 4636. If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to raise these with the Instructors at any point.
05.01.2022 Back at it with Mas Wes. Awesome effort once again by the Tarragindi PD crew. For those of you who could not make it tonight, please prepare your future self for vengeance and glorious retribution.
04.01.2022 Week 4 complete and on to Week 5 of the Tarragindi PD challenge. Unfortunately, a small error was discovered in the recalcitrant / fence-sitter coefficient applied to the week 4 challenge. This has now been rectified and the new and improved "M. Volling coefficient of encouragement" has now been enacted. For this week (26 April - 2 May) our key focus will be Harimau. Harimau has a great range of movements and is a fantastic avenue to explore and improve your body movement. ...For this week, the following has been set: Adults - * 500 moves Harimau, 150 moves Pendeta, 150 moves Putri, 100 knees/elbows, 50 Garuda, 20 sidekick reps (L & R) * Non-compliance: Adults = 75 Burpees, 100 push ups, sit ups, squats & star jumps Kids - * 100 moves Harimau, 100 moves Pendeta/Putri, 20 x Dasar rangkaian (basic forms on dropbox) * 20 burpees, push ups, sit ups, squats & star jumps. The key to Harimau is movement so spend part of this week focusing on how best to integrate your body into sikaps, avoids and attacks. Keep your arms in (T-rex arms), make sure you engage your hips/shoulders and attack/avoid with the whole body v.s. just using your arms. Keep up the great work and (as always) we will require photographic evidence For all you recalcitrants and fence-sitters please be advised that winter is coming and vengeance will be had.
03.01.2022 Massive effort once again by the Tarragindi PD Wednesday crew. Solid training, no injuries, back at it on Monday from 6.30 pm. Photo - Mas Wes explaining the nuances of foot positions and body movement for takedowns.
03.01.2022 With the end-of-year training sessions complete, Tarragindi PD would like to say a big thank-you to all of our members for their efforts over the last 12 months. While 2020 has presented a significant challenge, seeing our students improve through time and achieve their own personal milestones was a definite highlight. These achievements in no small way can be attributed to the ongoing commitment of Mas Wes (and Kerry) and the efforts of our senior levels, particularly Gav an...d Bruce. Similarly, many thanks to the members of the Oz PD community who stopped in to train, catch-up and/or blow off the cobwebs. We look forward to doing it all again in the new year. Lastly and as always, a big thank-you to the parents, partners and families who waited patiently while the class ran late, acted as transport, or had loved ones go missing for extended periods. Your efforts throughout the year are greatly appreciated and make a significant contribution to the success of our small club. Have a safe and happy break over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you back on the mats in January 2021.
03.01.2022 Less than 12 hrs till the recommencement of training. Just remember there is no I in burpee.
03.01.2022 Less than 12 hrs till training. The focus for this week will be Serang Hindar, Asli (forms) & Defence Against the Dark Arts.
03.01.2022 One last photo from the Dasar grading this week. This time it is a 2nd PD generation reaching cakel and moving on into the Minangkabau herd. Celebratory burpees for eveyone! Monday @ 6.30pm and Wednesday @ 7.15pm.
02.01.2022 TRAINING @ TARRAGINDI PD - Tonight from 7:15pm & Saturday (Red Belts) from 8:00am. For all of you playing at home, training this week is proudly brought to you by Colonel Johnny Rico. A person whose accomplishments belie his youthful looks. Colonel Rico is not only an avid explorer and adventurer but also one of the world's leading amateur entomologists. For those of you who do not know who Colonel Ricco is, Tarragindi PD strongly recommends that you a) google his resume, b) cancel your Friday night iso-plans (they have now been replaced) and c) advise your friends that you are not to be bugged until Saturday.
02.01.2022 TARRAGINDI PD CHALLENGE - WEEK 2 (5 - 11 April) Week 1 completed, names taken and the recalcitrant-burpee count commenced. On with Week 2 and the Garuda challenge. This weeks festivities include the following: * Adults: 500 moves of Garuda; 100 sidekicks... * Kids: 250 moves of Garuda; 50 sidekicks * All: 30 Burpees for group non-compliance Garuda moves - use a variety including blocks / tolaks (see video), make them count, dont be lazy with your technique and (as always) photographic evidence is a must. For all you recalcitrants and fence sitters, the instructors would like to provide you with some encouragement with this very ancient, yet useful Chinese proverb: "Those who dont spread wings week 2, seek push-ups week 3."
01.01.2022 Tarragindi PD, where you'll find that a friend is always on hand to help out - especially for pushups. Training on @ Tarragindi Fitness every Monday (6.30pm) and Wednesday (7.15pm) night.
