24.01.2022 These estate maps are quite fascinating. From the perspective of my research, they are important because train and tram stops always featured prominently on them. Transport connections were, as they remain today, an important selling point when it comes to buying a houses. H/T Brisbane History Group

22.01.2022 The Hornibrook Highway was an important extension to Brisbanes transport infrastructure in the 1930s. It linked the northern suburbs with the Redcliffe peninsula more effectively than it had been up to this point. #transporthistory

17.01.2022 An interesting collection via the Museum of Brisbane. Much of Brisbanes change is related to its evolving transport infrastructure. #TransportHistory
16.01.2022 Did you know that the second direct flight from Sydney to Brisbane landed at Windsor Park on 13 August 1920? The flight was completed by Ron Adair in his Avro 5...04K. It took 5 1/2 hours. Windsor was the place to be for plane enthusiasts in 1920 - pilot Frank Roberts, seen in this photo with his plane, also offered joy rides in the plane at Windsor Park. (Image from John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland, negative number 62422) Further information on Windsor Park - including its aerodrome - can be found here: https://heritage.brisbane.qld.gov.au/heritage-places/1781

09.01.2022 The freeway systems joining the Gold and Sunshine Coasts with Brisbane are turning this conurbation into a 200 kilometre city. Whether one agrees with Peter Spearitts view of the 200 kilometre city, he points to a critical issues about how developing transport infrastructure has changed and shaped the spatial character of Brisbane and southeast Queensland. #TransportHistory

02.01.2022 Today was a weird experience. I had to go into the office in the CBD, and the train was virtually empty despite the lifting restrictions here in Australia. It made me wonder how people reacted to public transport during other major pandemics such as Spanish Flu. Did transport become no go zones? Or did people just accept that they needed to travel to work because, unlike today, many did not have the option to work from home? #TransportHistory
02.01.2022 An interesting video of the development of Roma Street Station.
