11.01.2022 14Cs wrap V Kincumber Well what a drizzly misty morning greeted us at Saratoga oval on Saturday and the mood of our opposition was not much better they desperately wanted the match abandoned but i insisted we play on. Losing the toss we were given the honour of bowling first ..yuk ....... We opened with Angus & Billy, with the narrowest of pitches the boys struggled to keep it on the pitch, the opposition kept wanting to go off because of the persistent showers but we persevered and with the change of bowling Joey came on and took a couple of quick wickets the best part of the session was that we took 4 catches in dismal conditions, and 2 run outs 1ea to Darragh and Hamish, anyway we finally rolled them for 79 in the18th over, best figures Angus Gibbs 4 overs 1 maiden 2/14, Joey Stitt 2 overs 2/9, Billy Sands 2 overs 1maiden 1/3 as well as some tidy stuff from Isaac Plunkett and Mitch Knowles. Catches to Jack, Will, Billy and Mitch. Unfortunately the highest scorer was Extras 41. Coming out to bat the drizzle still hadn't let up and neither had the oppositions want to stop proceedings. We got off to a shaky start with the ever reliable Darragh (TBOB) McBride playing on for 1, out came Jack Minehan who along with Mitch Knowles added 22 runs before Jack fell to a full straight delivery, we lost a couple of quick wickets but we managed to keep the score slowly ticking over but with the early loss off Angus for 4, our last batsmen Mitch came back out to resume where he had left off before his 35 ball retirement to join forces with Billy Sands, we were still 16 runs short and needed some sensible batting which both boys did with aplomb. The last over we faced went for approx. 14 runs and we came away with the win in the 23rd over. Best of the batting Mitch with 18NO Jack 8 and Billy Sands who batted for about 20mins without scoring but was the perfect foil for Mitch as he was last week with Angus Not a pretty win but we'll take it, it could have gone the other way. It was funny how with 1 wicket needed and rain increasing in intensity the opposition all of a sudden weren't so keen to go off even with the howls of protest from their supporters. Phew....... I'll take dry weather cricket any day. Cheers Ant P.S Merry Christmas to all.
