25.01.2022 Obesity Surgery helps lower the risk of cancer. Patients with severe obesity who had bariatric or weight-loss surgery and lost more than 20% of their total weight were 50% less likely to develop cancer compared to a patient who did not? Researches also found that metabolic changes after bariatric surgery contributed to lowering the risk of cancer. For each 20% reduction in leptin, a hormone released from the fat cells located in adipose tissue, there was a 20% reduction in cancer incidence. Decreases in diabetes-related fasting glucose, proinsulin, insulin and C-peptide levels and increased levels of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, were also associated with reduced cancer risk. 21.01.2022 Do I need Private Health Insurance for Bariatric Surgery? No, you can have surgery as a self-funded patient. You will have additional costs for the hospital including theatre and bed fees that the health fund usually covers. It is preferable that patients have private health insurance, though there is a 12 month waiting period after joining to allow access to this. During this time, it is a great to start dieting and introducing excerise into your routine and be in the very best condition for surgery. Our professional team will assist you to be ready for your new life ahead. Find out more: http://mtr.cool/aqutzasqrjm

04.01.2022 Planning your pantry during COVID-19 pandemic. The Dietitians Association of Australia* have put together a list of foods to help you prepare in the event you need to self-quarantine for 14 days. In the event of needing to self-quarantine, it is important to have a plan. Food items to consider: - Fruit: Fresh fruit (choose those that last longer such as apples and citrus fruits), frozen fruits, dried fruit and canned varieties.... - Vegetables: Fresh vegetables (choose those that last longer such as potatoes, onions, carrots, pumpkin and cabbage), frozen and canned vegetables. - Cans of soup - Protein sources: canned fish, legumes, nuts and seeds (including nut butters), long life milk (UHT or powdered). - Grains: rice, pasta, quinoa, couscous, rolled oats and cereals. Freeze breads and wraps. - Long life sauces/herbs and spices: Relying on shelf-stable foods, can increase the sodium in our diet, as salt in used to preserve foods. Having a range of herbs and spices on had can help boost the flavour of foods without needing extra salt. - Foods for enjoyment: In time of isolation and uncertainty, having foods that are a source of comfort, or a reminder of daily routine, can be beneficial for your mental health. An example includes coffee. It is also worth cooking a few extra meals, prepared and frozen in the freezer if you were to fall ill means you have a nutritious meal ready to go. If patients need any assistance, please contact us by emailing [email protected] or phone 07 3720 9057. *Information from the Dietitians Association of Australia DAA

Sharon Rochester is a fully accredited Dietitian, Nutritionist and has her Hons Degree in B.Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Let Sharon guide you in the right direction and help with your weight loss results. Bariatric vitamins are formulated specifically to meet the needs of a patient after undergoing weight loss surgery.
