12.01.2022 An update from Qlife.... We are still open and available... :) COVID-19 NOTICE Now more than ever accessing support is really important as we manage the challe...nges relating to COVID-19. We want to let you know that you may experience a longer than usual wait for QLife services at present as we are currently reorientating the service so that people are working in line with spatial distancing protocols to protect QLife staff and volunteers from COVID-19. During this time we will be operating web chat from 3pm midnight daily, however we do need to limit our telephone service to 6pm 10pm, although the hours are shorter we will have increased peer supporters on during this time. 06.01.2022 **Cancellation of upcoming surgery** The COVID-19 pandemic is, and will continue to stretch and challenge the Australian healthcare system. Urgent action is req...uired if we are to curb the rising rates of infection for all people and particularly for those who are most at-risk of harm. The Federal Government announced yesterday the cancellation of all elective (planned) surgeries in both public and private hospitals effective now. This decision has been made in anticipation of increasing volumes of severely ill people who will need access to intensive care units (ICUs) and emergency departments (EDs) in our hospitals. This means that only emergency surgery (i.e. treating trauma or acute illness) will be undertaken. This will allow for theatres to be re-purposed into ICU beds and to ensure anaesthetists are available to operate ventilators. AusPATH recognises that gender affirming surgery is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of many trans people, including those who are gender diverse or non-binary, and that the cancellation of such surgeries will cause disappointment and distress to many. While the term "elective" may sound like its a choice - elective surgeries are not optional and AusPATH considers gender affirming surgical interventions to be not only medically necessary, but lifesaving. Surgeries will resume once conditions related to COVID-19 have stabilised. We dont yet know how long this will take, and recognise that this uncertainty may be very unsettling for those awaiting surgery. Those affected will be contacted by their surgeon as soon as practicable. We encourage anyone affected by this situation to seek peer and professional support. Mental healthcare, connecting with your doctor and being supported by your community are important and can make a big difference to wellbeing. And please - wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, steer clear of people outside of your immediate household and stay connected online as much as you can. We are all in this together. If there is anything you think AusPATH should be doing during this time, get in touch at [email protected] - QLife Australia phone and webchat counselling for all LGBTIQ people, 3pm midnight every day - https://www.qlife.org.au/ - ACONs TGD People and COVID-19 www.acon.org.au/tgdcovid - Head to Health and COVID-19 - https://headtohealth.gov.au/covid-19-support

04.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone.... This is an even more important message at the moment since the world is looking and feeling quite different in the face of COVID-19. Seeing a mental health worker (whether that be a psychologist, social worker, or counsellor) should be the same as going to the GP when you are feeling unwell physically. Lets end the stigma and help normalise mental health. #endthestigma... #theimportanceofmentalhealth #brisbanesouthsidepsychology #lgbtiq See more

01.01.2022 At Brisbane Southside Psychology we will be keeping our doors open as we realise the importance of mental health care during this extremely difficult time. We are doing our best to keep everyone safe by putting necessary cleaning measures in place to make sure we are continuing to provide a comfortable and safe space for everyone. We are asking all of our clients not to come in if you are experiencing cold or flu like symptoms. Please phone our reception (07) 3191 6080 and ...they will reschedule your appointment. **We are suspending cancellation fees at present due to the pandemic if you are unable to attend due to illness** Unfortunately we are not taking on new clients during this time, however once the pandemic is over we shall be opening our doors again to some new faces... :) Phone reception if you would like to be put on our waiting list. If you are in mandated quarantine we are offering Zoom/Skype appointments by appointment. These are bulk billed through Medicare as a government initiative. If you arent in mandated quarantine however rebates are only available for face to face appointments at this stage (hopefully this changes in the near future as the Australian Psychological Society are in ongoing discussions with Government about this). You are welcome to change your existing appointment to a Zoom/Skype appointment if you are feeling concerned (you just wont be eligible for the Medicare rebate, check with your private health provider as they might be able to offer something). Stay safe everyone.... Belinda & Rana
