25.01.2022 DID YOUR PARENTS OR OLDER RELATIVES ATTEND STATE HIGH?Seeking expressions of interest: The State High Foundation plans to host a morning tea for our more 'senior' past students to celebrate our 100 Year Anniversary. It is an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and reminisce about the old times at State High. A museum display will ignite old memories and our string quartet will delight. 25.01.2022 Due to current COVID-19 school attendance restrictions, the school's usual ANZAC Day assembly cannot proceed today. Instead, we will be presenting our students a video montage of some of BSHS alumni who have served in the Defence Forces. Thank you so much to those who contributed to this presentation to our students.
24.01.2022 Welcome back Brock Motum (Class of 2007). Brock popped by this week to speak to our GPS Basketball squad in the lead up to this weekend's game against TSS. Brock is heading back to Europe for the next season. Brock Motum
23.01.2022 True story - Past student donates a bridge! State High has a 'Master Plan' for the Fursden Rd Playing Fields and Phase 1 is now completed thanks to Paul Brady who donated the bridge required to traverse the fields. A special thanks to all our sporting alumni who turned up on Saturday to acknowledge Paul - Peter Slattery, Michael Kasprowicz, Peter Hynes, David Bourke, Mosese Rauluni, Chris Sautia, David Paice, Elia Tuqiri, Mark Bartholomeusz and others. This is a donation of enormous proportion. Thanks also to Councillor Lisa Atwood for supporting the occasion and bridge opening formalities.

21.01.2022 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Congratulations to Dr James Morton MBBS FRACP FRCPR AM (Class of 1980) a recipient in this year's 'QUEENSLAND GREATS' Awards. Dr James Morton AM is an accredited specialist in Haematology-Oncology, Medical Director at Icon Cancer Care and Senior Specialist in Leukaemia and Bone Marrow Transplant Services at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. Above all, he is a passionate advocate for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and is the Founder an...d previous Chair of the AEIOU Foundation for children with autism, a not-for-profit organisation. His vision is to see every young child with ASDs in Australia able to access high quality, evidence-based early intervention. Dr Morton was a Board Member at the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland from 20002008, where he created and initiated the Worlds Greatest Shave campaign, which continues as a successful fundraising initiative to this day. Dr Morton was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015, in recognition of his services to both children with autism and in oncology.

20.01.2022 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - 2016 School Captain Lachlan Reberger has been called the face of the new workforce by Bond University. Lachlan, who was a recipient of Bond Universitys Vice-Chancellors Elite Scholarship, graduated his Actuarial Science degree last week and has landed a full-time job in finance. 20.01.2022 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT SONALI HEDDITCH (class of 1997) Sonali is passionate about womens empowerment as a key pathway to a sustainable future. She is a lawyer, social scientist and entrepreneur who has lead innovative programs, projects and teams to design and deliver social impact and sustainable economic development in over 20 countries, across the Pacific Islands, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. Sonali is currently leading UN Womens Second Chance Education progra...m in Australia, and has also managed World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank and Indigenous Business Australia programs. In all of these roles, this work resulted in multi-year womens economic empowerment programs to ensure equitable participation by women, as well as that of their families, communities and nations. Sonali founded and managed a womens economic empowerment social enterprise which sources childrens clothing from Indigenous women in Mexico, Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Jordan and marginalised women in India and Senegal. Sonali is currently undertaking a PhD on Responsible Innovation in Future Sciences under supervision and scholarship from CSIRO and UQ. This week she features as one of 10 of Australia's most popular comedians in the new show 'LOL: Last One Laughing' which will stream this Friday 19 June on Amazon Prime Video.

14.01.2022 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Marnus Labuschagne (Class of 2011) Labuschagne wins contract from Cricket Australia. Hes been a revelation and he deserves all the accolades he gets because hes one of those players that work so hard, hes probably one of the hardest workers in that group, but hes dragging others along with him - Chief selector Trevor Hohns.

13.01.2022 Rugby World Cup | On Saturday 5 October, Jordan Petaia (Class of 2017 and former GPS Rugby First XV team member) made his debut for the Wallabies at the Rugby W...orld Cup. Jordan is the youngest Australian to play at the Rugby World Cup at age 19. Jordan played alongside Wallabies players and past State High students Samu Kerevi (Class of 2011) and Matt Toomua (Class of 2007) at Oita Stadium in Japan where the Wallabies won against Uruguay 45-10. Also competing in the Rugby World Cup are Will Tupou (Class of 2007) and James Moore (Class of 2010) who are playing in the Japanese team and Paul Alo Émile (Class of 2009) who is playing in the Samoan team. Congratulations!

12.01.2022 Marnus Labuschagne (Class of 2011) was selected in the Australia Cricket team and in the first series of Ashes Cricket, he averaged over 50. This achievement stands very well in the all-time record of Ashes series averages, especially in the UK. Congratulations!
12.01.2022 ALUMNI NEWS: Congratulations to the Honourable Justice Peter Applegarth (Class of 1975) on his appointment as Chairperson of the Queensland Law Reform Commission. Judge Applegarth who recently was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours takes up this position whilst still serving as Justice of the Supreme Court.

07.01.2022 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Welcome home Neil Breen (Class of 1985) Neil Breen to replace Alan Jones on Brisbanes 4BC breakfast: Nine Radio will replace Alan Jones in Brisbane with a new local breakfast show, hosted by Walkley-award winning journalist Neil Breen. Jones announced he would be retiring from radio last week. His breakfast program was syndicated from 2GB to Brisbanes 4BC. Breen has been one of Nines senior sports reporters and presenters from a number of years. He is a former editor of The Sunday Telegraph and has previously been sports editor for both The Courier-Mail and The Australian.
