20.01.2022 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Mona Seul Mona from River Timber Designs creates one-off pieces of wearable and functional art made from the finest Australian rescued timbers, and combines them with a dash of colourful resin to create a modern look to traditional woodwork. She is inspired by our Australian natural landscape and this is reflected beautifully and subtly throughout her work. Clean lines, attention to detail and timeless design is what you find with every River Timber Desi...gns piece. Mona was born and raised in Sweden and always had a love for creating from an early age. She started her creative journey through music and songwriting, and picked up woodworking at school. A couple of years later she moved to Australia, and renewed her love for timber when a large eucalyptus tree fell down in a storm on her property and prompted her to get it milled. Come along and view Mona’s beautiful work as part of this weekends group exhibition.

Designed by silversmith, Jemica Ostrofski, who loves drawing inspiration from the urban environment and minimalist geometric form. Using traditional silversmithing techniques such as hand sawing, soldering, hammer texturing and oxidising, Jemica brings to life her... sketched drawings to create statement pieces that can be worn every day. We are so excited that Jem has created two collections for this exhibition, her puzzle piece range and her Australian Map collection that highlights the connections and communities. We are all interconnected. Our journey brings us closer together even if we are far away.

13.01.2022 ARTIST IS RESIDENCE: Kate Jefferay Kate is a textile artist and craft educator. Through her small business, My Aunty Anna - Kate Jefferay she facilitates the creation of community through craft by encouraging people to come together and learn new skills, often working with others on large scale communal projects. Kate has turned her hand to just about anything that can be done with fabric or fibre and enjoys sharing these skills with others - learning new tricks and techniqu...es along the way, whilst helping others to live more creatively, and experience the satisfaction and empowerment that comes with this. Where possible the materials used are recycled and repurposed. For BrisStyle’s Community and Connection exhibition Kate has produced works inspired by the way the global creative community connected with each other digitally during the Coronavirus pandemic, and periods of lockdown - through craft-alongs, online workshops and the creation of new digital communities. She has taken inspiration from groups created by our crafting leaders Pip (Meet me at Mikes) and Kirsten Each To Own (how AMAZING does Andrew the Turkey look!!!)

06.01.2022 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Steph Morris One of our original members, Steph has been creating and selling unique pieces with BrisStyle under the label Wimcee's whims since it all began in 2008! As a painter in acrylics, pastels and oils, she brings the same fascination with line, shape, colour and pattern to the diverse and tactile world of fabric. Fabric collage and soft embellished sculpture are what Steph is best known for and many will remember her amazing upcycled Gorilla for t...he Brisbane city council recycling competition a few years ago. Steph is a keen collector of vintage fabrics and notions and reuses wherever possible, or mixes old with new in her work. BrisStyle has been instrumental in connecting a formally solitary portrait artist with the wonderful community of creatives that live and work in south-east Queensland and we are so excited to have Steph’s beautiful work as part of our group exhibition (photos just don’t do her beautiful multidimensional pieces justice).
