22.01.2022 It’s no secret that secondhand fashion is in the rise, but COVID-19 has given it yet another boost. New reports from The Real Real and Gumtree Australia reveal an increase in first-time buyers of secondhand fashion and a lot more people using it as a means to turn their unwanted goods into cash. The motivation? Some say it’s for the planet, some say their wallets. Sounds like a win-win. Read more on Clare Press's Wardrobe Crisis blog here.

17.01.2022 For Melbourne-based designer Lois Hazel, a previous collection’s deadstock fabrics were just enough to inspire a mid-season capsule collection with limited edition pieces.

16.01.2022 For Sydney-based intimates brand Mighty Good Basics, the name says it all. The brand was born out of a disheartening search for ethically made, environmentally conscious underwear and basic wardrobe items. Read more

15.01.2022 Next, Asos and Amazon have DROPPED Boohoo amid claims it's underpaying UK factory workers (about 1/2 minimum wage). But why did it take UK manufacturing to trigger action?

10.01.2022 Don't believe the hype Next Friday is #BlackFriday and brands big and small are already gearing up for the biggest sale event of the year. You don't need me to say that a sale isn't a reason to buy *all the sh*t you don't need*. There's nothing sustainable about extremely low prices or mass consumption, so consider people, planet and your wallet before you buy. An alternative? Sydney-based label Citizen Wolf is bringing back its anti-Black Friday tradition @blackfridye. The brand encourages people to take an old piece of clothing and dye it black, extending its life and minimising its impact on the planet. They'll even dye it black for you for a small fee. I’ve sent this one off for a #BlackFridye glow up. Watch this space.

05.01.2022 In episode 4 of The Quick Unpick podcast, I chat to Sarah Sheridan from Clothing the Gap a Victorian Aboriginal owned and led social enterprise fashion label managed by health professionals. The brand produces merch that celebrates Aboriginal people and culture, and puts its profits towards initiatives that help #closethegap between non-Indigenous and Aboriginal people. Recently, Clothing the Gap became the first known Aboriginal-owned business to have its Australian manufacturing accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia. Listen here.

03.01.2022 Super sad to see publications aimed at young people glorifying fast fashion and other cheap consumables. You don’t have to look far to see who wears the true cost of these products - whether it’s on factory floors or in cotton fields. We need to stop glorifying cheap. I know that ethical often = expensive and that needs addressing and needs to be more accessible. But the solution in the meantime shouldn’t come at others’ expense.

02.01.2022 "I saw a little girl who was for sale. And it was a life-altering moment to see the reality for these people and what it was really like. I knew I wanted to be a part of creating that change." Outland Denim

02.01.2022 Potentially the only pants you'll need this winter.
