23.01.2022 Fantastic article about how our cities could look with some clever, thoughtful planning..

23.01.2022 Thank you Independent Australia for the great write up. Let's hope that the electorate of Mermaid Beach can see that they have an opportunity to vote for a true Community Campaigner who will work tirelessly to listen and act in the best interests of the Gold Coast :)

22.01.2022 EXPLOSIVE The Chair of the CCC today revealed Further councils will be investigated. The Gold Coast is about to start. There is plenty of evidence about complai...nts being made about the Gold Coast City Council and its functioning. Old mate Tate and his cronies should not be sleeping well tonight. Donna Gates wins the prize for the most implausible comment of the day. She is now saying her son bought the race horse and put in her name. She didn't know. Pull the other one Donna. WHAT TATE AND HIS COUNCIL DIDN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUISE SHIP TERMINAL Last year the Council released a heavily redacted report prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (which of course we the ratepayers paid for) on the feasibility of a cruise ship termina)l. Today Save Our Broadwater can tell you what they tried to cover up. - The risk that cruise ships will have difficulty navigating to the cruise ship terminal due to weather or wave conditions. Cruise operators raised the concern that the facility would be in the open ocean and not in a protected harbour, and if a ship were to encounter problems, it could be pushed ashore and that this risk would be highest when the ship was preparing to dock. - The risk that environmental conditions at the facility are not suitable for berthing and unberthing. - The risk that the design of the facility hinders the effective movement of passengers from and to the cruise vessel during alighting and boarding. - The estimated total capital costs of the terminal to be $463.4 million - That the estimated maintenance costs would be $234.2 million over a 30 year period. - That it would be 16 years before the cost of building the terminal could be recouped. - The future demand for cruising was inherently uncertain; particularly considering the proposed cruise ship terminal would not begin operating until 2022. - The risk that the cruise ship industry does not support the project and does not commit to visits to the Gold Coast, for example, cruise ship operators may be unlikely to add the Gold Coast to a Pacific Island cruise, due to mixing a Pacific Islands experience with an Australian port - Contractors who participated in the feasibility study confirmed that there would be little or no appetite for a private sector party to take on demand risk as the major source of funding the project without a substantial guarantee by the City of the Gold Coast as the project sponsor. Despite these financial and safety risks that Councillors have been told about they still keep spruiking the Cruise Ship Terminal idea and they keep spending our money on it. No wonder they tried to cover it up. We have said before this is the most secretive, incompetent and arrogant council in the history of our city. Let us hope the CCC can expose them. Oh and where is our Mayor? Old mate is on yet another extended holiday.

22.01.2022 Lets talk about Transport and the East-West Link to keep people moving

21.01.2022 No doubt youve seen trendy menus with hand-cut chips... well these are hand-cut How-to-Vote fliers, crafted with care by my friends John and June. My order with the printer is delayed due to high demand but I want to share my Top 10 Issues asap. The two main pre-polling stations for our seat of Mermaid Beach are at Niecon Plaza Broadbeach and Park Ave Burleigh Heads. I cant cut myself in two so I will mostly be at Broadbeach during the week and then Burleigh this Saturday. If you are coming to vote early, please say hello, and let me know what issues are most important to you #makeadifference #mona4mermaid #broadbeach #mermaidbeach #mermaidwaters #caningeraba #nobbybeach #varsitylakes #robina #miami #bonduniversity #pizzeypark #robinatowncentre

21.01.2022 Meet the Candidates tonight

20.01.2022 Until recently, at Elizabeth Ave, Broadbeach, if you looked west you could see the stairway to heaven, the animated blue neon of Jupiters Casino. And to the ...east you could see the blue of the Pacific. But things have changed. To the west, The new Darling Hotel blocks the view to the Casino and the street no longer gets a twilight glow as the sun goes down. To the east, a yellow toilet block spoils the ocean view. While neither of these obstructions is drastic in isolation, the accumulation of such little things unnecessarily diminishes the civic quality and enjoyment of urban places. I say unnecessarily because (like the new Kurrawa Surf Clubhouse which does the same thing to Charles Ave), these deleterious visual obstructions could have been simply avoided with thoughtful site planning and good design. If I were Mayor for a day, to help remediate this situation, I would instruct removal, or at least re-siting of the yellow toilet block that is not connected to the childrens playground so that we can re-see the sea. None of the additions to the park in the last decade correspond with the 2007 Kurrawa-Pratten Park Masterplan perhaps its time to refresh that? #gctallbuildings #starcitygoldcoast #stairwaytoheaven #itsthelittlethings #elizabethave #broadbeach #lovebroadbeach #broadbeachgc #kurrawapark #townplanning101 @ Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia

19.01.2022 If you are heading to Pre-Polling in Burleigh, be sure to say Hi to my gorgeous daughter Rebecca who is manning the booth for Team Mona

19.01.2022 Burleigh Heads is a pet friendly polling booth, open now 9-5 everyday

18.01.2022 We can only hope that the CCC findings reveal the truth behind Tom Tates self serving interests. He has not and will not put Community before his own ego and financial gain.

17.01.2022 Interesting read, wouldnt it be great to incorporate these values in politics

15.01.2022 A quick snippet on Channel 9 Gold Coast News tonight talking about how social media helps our election campaign

15.01.2022 Preventative Health will ease the burden on our expanding Health Budget as well as getting people healthier and active. Clear, considered and practical implementation doesnt mean wasting money on administration fees, its about engaging community groups and Practitioners who are already having a positive impact on the health of our communities

14.01.2022 Tonite I attended a Meet The Candidates event for candidates in Bonney, Broadwater, Southport and Surfers Paradise. I posed a question to ask candidates if they would support inclusion of The Spit within the Moreton Bay Marine Park? And establishment of a Marine Park Authority (like the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority). I was pleased that none of the candidates disagreed with my proposition, but neither did any one seem to fully appreciate the limited efficacy of a masterplan. If I am elected for the seat of Mermaid Beach I will advocate for a Marine Park Authority to not only regulate but also positively promote the natural values and ecotourism potential of Moreton Bay #mona4mermaid #standwithme #makeadifference

13.01.2022 Delighted to hear Labors promise for a new train station at Merrimac which can only help to alleviate traffic congestion through the forgotten middle of the Gold Coast. Lots of people at pre-polling are supporting my pledge to advocate for fast-tracking of the east-west lightrail link to Robina via Varsity, which seems like the most important next stage #qldvotes2017 #mona4mermaid #theforgottenmiddle #standwithme #makeadifference #robina #varsitylakes #caningeraba #mermaidwaters #mermaidbeach #nobbybeach #miamibeach #broadbeach @ridetheg @qldlabor

13.01.2022 You can avoid the queues on Election Day next Saturday and pre-poll at Park Ave Burleigh today. Im taking a quick break at a local fave @communeespresso and thinking how much easier electioneering could be if every cafe had a community notice board or poster wall. If you have, or know of a cafe or shop where I can display my A3 poster for a week, please DM me or drop by where I will be at pre-polling till 4pm

10.01.2022 If it can happen in one suburb, it can happen in any suburb. The Gold Coast is under threat of over development. The only way to save the Gold Coast we love is to stand together and show the Council that we are united in our voice to stop the relaxation of our Town Planing laws to over zealous Developers.

10.01.2022 Ignoring the Town Planning Scheme is happening all over the Gold Coast, we need to work together to protect what we love about this beautiful paradise we call home.

09.01.2022 If we wanted to live in a high rise city, we would, but we have chosen the GC for the lifestyle, it’s unique character and environmental proximity. That’s what we love and that’s what visitors love

08.01.2022 Such sad news that regardless of all the objections, the filling in of Black Swan Lake has begun. This is just a small example of the damage that will continue on the Gold Coast under the current Council leadership and its minions :(

08.01.2022 Election Day is almost here, lets fill the booths with Yellow

07.01.2022 My friend FRENCHY is standing in for me this morning at Broadbeach pre-polling, while Im visiting our seniors at Mermaid Beach Tricare. If you are coming to vote, please say BONJOUR! #makeadifference #standwithme #mona4mermaid #qldvotes2017

07.01.2022 A big heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who supported my campaign, to the 3000+ community members who voted for me and the many more who gave me their 2nd preference. The results convincingly put me 3rd and the election experience convinced me that people in this mid area of the Gold Coast feel that their concerns are falling on deaf ears of State and Local government officers and elected representatives. The dividend and joy of this campaign was in making new connections with ...local residents who want to do more to strengthen our community voice and ensure the best decisions are made to protect and enhance our lifestyle. Ive made promises to continue to help our community concerns and good ideas be heard. In the New Year well be starting Conversations In The Clubs to talk about the things going on around us that really matter. The issues people talked most about with me were traffic and transport, preservation of green space and the design quality of new development, but there are also small, local issues that just need attention and some smart, fair thinking to resolve. Please stay tuned... tell your friends and neighbors, join in to make a difference #fromlittlethingsbigthingsgrow #broadbeachcommunityconversations See more

06.01.2022 Todays Gold Coast Bulletin, almost hidden at page 28 but Im happy with that. Independent candidates like me have to work harder to receive media attention. I fully endorse this opinion. I believe I can win this seat and as an independent member of the Queensland Parliament I will have a strong voice for the electorate of Mermaid Beach. Please Vote 1 for Mona Hecke, number every box and put the major parties last #qldvotes2017 #independentsday #standwithme #makeadifference #robina #varsitylakes #caningeraba #miami #nobbybeach #mermaidwaters #mermaidbeach

06.01.2022 New friendships, shared values. Please vote for kindness #qldvotes2017 #independentsday #mona4mermaid #makeadifference @vintage_muso

06.01.2022 19/06/18 The pro development lobby and the GC Bulletin have been talking up the need for further GC development, last week and this week. In the Bulletin, we h...ad a Martin Gerrard, a resident and businessman from Robina talking up the need for the Light Rail extension to Burleigh and the Airport. Could it be that this is the same Martin Gerrard associated with rail back on track, and a spokesman for Urbis? Who are Urbis ?.They are a select group of pro development Town Planning professionals. Translation of the Latin word Urbis "of the city". Goals of Urbis - To shape the cities and communities of Australia for a better future. The question is, are Urbis working for a better outcome for the future, health, and well being of the residents of the city or the health and well being of developers, and in turn their own personal wealth? On Thursday 25th May 2017 Mayor Tom Tate & an array of councillors attended the opening of the new GC Urbis premises. Note, the PR blurb said array, not all councillors. So a select group of councillors attended. Is that the same group that hold secret meetings in the room adjoining the mayors Bundall office? The room that used to have glass walls but now has gyprock covering the glass so no one can see who is meeting in that room. Has Urbis now been invited to join the Mayors Technical Advisory Committee ? Where are those meetings being held ? Last year the Mayors Technical Advisory Committee meetings were held monthly from February to November. This year they were to be advised, but have seen no advice that a meeting has been held. Could it be that they are being held in secret, at the mayors Southport office, with the rear entry. It is to be hoped that the CCC have secret meetings without agenda, and kept minutes, on their hit list. See more

05.01.2022 If we wanted to live in a high rise city, we would, but we have chosen the GC for the lifestyle, its unique character and environmental proximity. Thats what we love and thats what visitors love

05.01.2022 Dont take the privilege of voting for granted. Please number every box to be valid, follow this order and put your faith in me to represent the best interests of the Mermaid Beach electorate #qldvotes2017 #independentsday #standwithme #makeadifference #robina #varsitylakes #caningeraba #miami #nobbybeach #mermaidwaters #mermaidbeach

05.01.2022 The very lifestyle we all love about the Gold Coast is under threat from over development approvals and lack of adherence to the City Plan by the current Council. Burleigh Golf Course is the next one facing the chopping block. The current approved development has huge implications as a precedent for chipping away at the greenery that is currently preserved through Private Open Space designations throughout our City. This goes to a Council vote tomorrow and if it passes th...rough I for one am really concerned about the future of any Private Open Space on the GC. Golf Courses will be prime targets for Developers and what we cherish will soon be 'concretised'! Please share this post far and wide and let the Council know that we are NOT happy with their complete disregard for our City Plan. The next Council Election can not come soon enough so we can see an end to its corrupt decision making processes and restore a new Council with Integrity, Compliance, Transparency, Honesty and above all a Community spirit and willingness to preserve the paradise that is the Gold Coast See more

04.01.2022 And so it begins....

04.01.2022 'Making a Difference' means we welcome everyone to Team Mona especially on an historic day like today :)

04.01.2022 With just one week to go until Election Day, love to hear your thoughts on what is important to you and our city ??

03.01.2022 Check out the thoughtful way light rail is being introduced into George street Sydney. Note the level Integration, unlike the poorly designed and even more poorly executed light rail on the GC with gutters and raised platforms rendering streets a hazard there are ways to do this well, please take note GCCC at what could have been

01.01.2022 Final day of pre-polling tomorrow 9am-6pm. You dont need an excuse to vote early. Ill be at Park Avenue Burleigh Heads again #qldvotes2017 #independentsday #standwithme #makeadifference #robina #varsitylakes #caningeraba #miami #nobbybeach #mermaidwaters #mermaidbeach
