08.01.2022 Here’s a tale of generosity... we put a plea out last week for donations of food to go to the farmers/families and community members that have been tirelessly f...ighting fires for the past weeks. We have heard many stories of people in our community generously giving their time and food and we wanted to honour those who donated to help the men and women still fighting fires at Carmila today. Alison Halpin kindly donated an abundance of her fresh lettuce, Don and Geraldine Horspool donated a generous portion of ham from goode's butchery and Tye from the Qld Mud Trials Association delivered bread, tomatoes, onion and lettuce yesterday. Thank you Michael Forde for getting us in touch with Broadsound Coastal Care Carmila who have been catering for the fire fighters in Carmila these past weeks. Furthermore thanks to our beautiful Kim Coleman for giving her time to make these this morning. Due to all these generous people we were able to deliver 70 fresh ham and salad rolls to Puma Energy ready for our hungry hero’s. See more

05.01.2022 While I’m thanking people who have provided food and water I want to thank everyone who has been supporting our rural fire fighters not only in Carmila but other teams from Ilbilbie, Koumala, St Lawrence, Sarina and men and women who just turn up and say ‘what can I do to help’ . This is not only those who go and fight the fires at all hours of the day and night but those who work in the background. There has been so many providing food and water for over a week. Humble perso...ns who do not seek admiration, but who just turn up with sandwiches, fruit, homemade cakes, biscuits and cold water. I love the community I live in and it makes me proud that they all pull together both far and wide to help out their neighbors.... of which some live 100kms away. This is the Australian way. Thank you to all the fire fighters turning up from Mackay, and all around this country to help out people they don’t know or have ever met before. Thank you again to everyone for supporting our community. I have not mentioned names because to be frank there is just too many. See more

03.01.2022 I would like to thank all the generous people of Mackay and district who opened their hearts and donated food and water to the fire fighters and rural fire brigades in the area. A massive thank you to Debbie’s Seafood Mackay - Mark and Debbie and their incredible team of workers for excepting these items to be distributed. Mark and team members arrived in Carmila a couple of days ago with food and water. All I can say is WOW! We have managed to share this between St Lawrence..., Carmila, Koumala and Sarina areas. We have been able to feed and provide valuable water to the guys and gals working in terrible conditions to save homes across a wide span community. While the fires continue to burn dedicated community members continue to go out day and night to fight fires and protect those who are unable to do it by themselves. It amazes me how we are all able to pull together both far and wide to help each other in times of crisis. With this in mind please remember to buy local when you can as a way of saying thank you to those who support our community when needed. Thank you again to Debbie’s Seafood team for all that you have done and appreciate all your hard work. See more
