22.01.2022 Many factors affect how loud a sound seems: how long the sound lasts, where you are when you hear the sound, the sound’s frequency, and the sound’s intensity. Noisy Planet explores how sound is measured: http://bit.ly/2GqLU7U

20.01.2022 Prince William is seen using British Sign Language here. We know that his mom, Princess Diana was a big supporter for British Sign Language & we saw Prince Harr...y signing in Lesotho. After all, remember the fact that Prince Philips mother, Princess Alice was deaf. My question is now- will all the royal grandchildren learn BSL too? #whynot #whyisign #askmewhyisign #bsl #Repost @kensingtonroyal with @get_repost Today The Duke of Cambridge used British Sign Language to congratulate Alex Duguid MBE, as he presented him with his honour at Buckingham Palace. Alex has been the face of popular British TV shows Emmerdale and Coronation Street for its deaf audience for decades, as a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter. He is an example of how profoundly deaf people can have an impact on their community, their peers and their country. He is passionate about BSL and the need to promote and protect it. Alex has spent the past thirty years giving up his time raising hundred of thousands of pounds towards community projects benefitting South Tynesides deaf community, and teaching BSL classes through the organisation Signature, helping hundreds of people communicate with deaf people visit @signaturedeaf to find out more about their work. 13.01.2022 Broadway Audiology has closed now for the Christmas/New Year break, and will reopen for business on the 8th January 2020. We wish all our clients the very best for a happy, healthy and safe holiday season!

13.01.2022 A great reflection on hearing loss and communication

13.01.2022 Broadway Audiology is open to provide face to face services for clients in both our offices, and we have processes in place to ensure we are complying with Covid safe practices. Additionally, all Audiologists working in this practice are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Clients will be required to check in using the Services NSW QR check in on entering our rooms, and masks must be worn at all times. Where possible, we would also like to restrict visitors to our clinic rooms... to patients and one carer/parent if needed. If you have any Covid-19 symptoms or have been identified as a close or casual contact, we ask that you not attend and your appointment rescheduled. Thank you very much for your support and assistance at this time.

13.01.2022 Broadway Audiology is still open for business, however we are limiting some of our services due to COVID-19. Ear impressions for musician or sleep plugs and wax removal procedures may cause a coughing reflex, so we are not performing these procedures for the time being. We also ask that you attend the clinic alone, or with a maximum of one person, and that one parent attends with their child (and no siblings). Appointment times are also being staggered to allow for appropria...te social distancing within the waiting room, so it may take a little longer to get an appointment. Please email us at [email protected], or call and leave a message on 0408 218 586 and we will contact you to make an appointment. Please be sure to let us know if you have and cold-like symptoms, have had contact with anyone with or being tested for COVID-19, or have recently returned from overseas. Thank you Monica and Pia

12.01.2022 Beethoven anyone?

12.01.2022 An interesting article about sound and microphones. Hearing aids also utilise omnidirectional, cardioid and focussed microphone settings in order to better discriminate speech, particularly in noise.

12.01.2022 Amazing to watch!

07.01.2022 We are in extraordinary times as we face the Covid-19 virus threat, and the constant information provided through the media, whilst very important, can create anxiety. The Australian Psychological Society has published some tips for coping with anxiety. Worth a look. https://www.psychology.org.au/COVID-19-Australians

07.01.2022 The ABCs Medical Matters has just presented a program on hearing loss in the lead up to World Hearing Day on the 3rd March. Worth a listen.

06.01.2022 Wonderful to see this young woman’s love of music.

06.01.2022 Thanks Emma Watkins (aka Emma Wiggle)!

06.01.2022 Tinnitus (ringing or buzzing sounds in the ears) is a problem for many people we see in the clinic. The Ida Institute has a free online First Aid Kit for tinnitus sufferers, which includes information, advice and recommendations for managing tinnitus. In some instances, tinnitus is caused by conditions that are treatable (middle ear infections, earwax, problems with the jaw or bite), so it is important to see your GP or have an audiology assessment if you have ongoing issues with tinnitus. http://www.tinnituskit.com/your-first-aid-kit

06.01.2022 What impact did hearing loss have on Beethovens music? This is the first topic in a lecture series at the Art Gallery of NSW, as they celebrate Beethovens 250th birthday.

05.01.2022 Happy World Hearing Day!

05.01.2022 Great suggestions.

04.01.2022 These are unprecedented times for everyone, and we have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 crisis as news unfolds around the world. As you know, there have been clear recommendations for some time in regard to handwashing and coughing and sneezing etiquette, and now rapid updates in recommendations and policies relating to social distancing. Audiologists at Broadway Audiology always follow strict infection control procedures, as outlined by Audiology Australia. However, we... would like to reassure you that even stricter controls are in place with the advent of Covid-19. Our rooms and surfaces are being professionally cleaned on a daily basis All equipment headphones, response buttons etc are cleaned after each use; additionally, we are cleaning door handles, chairs and benches and any surfaces touched after each client seen Toys used in testing are soaked and disinfected after each child test (if they are required) We have removed books and soft toys from our distraction selection due to the difficulty in washing and disinfecting them Audiologists will be wearing gloves for some procedures, particularly where we might have to touch the face (for example when taking ear impressions or doing middle ear testing and otoscopy) We ask that you attend appointments alone, or in the case of a child test or adult who requires a carer, with ONE person only. This is to ensure patients and clients to the practice can adhere to principles of social distancing We also ask that you let us know BEFORE you attend an appointment, if you have returned from overseas in the past 14 days or you are suffering with a fever or flu-like symptoms. Please contact [email protected], or leave a message on 048 218 586. Thank you and keep well! Monica & Pia

02.01.2022 Isn’t the ear a wonderful thing!

01.01.2022 Flu Season Approaching As flu season approaches, and in the light of the Covid-19 virus, we ask that you monitor for any flu like symptoms such as fever, coughing, shortness of breath or tiredness/fatigue. If you have any of these symptoms, please contact the clinic to reschedule your appointment.... This request is for your best interest and also that of your practitioner and other patients attending the clinic, particularly those who may be immunocompromised. Thank you for your understanding.
