25.01.2022 Today’s colour inspiration is beautiful teals and turquoises, colours gloriously sitting the fence between blues and greens. Peaceful, calm, deeply soulful hues. Seen in oceans, glass, paints and art pastels, ceramic glazed, and turquoise stones. #brocantespirit #lovecolour #bluesandgreens #teal #turquoise #colourinspiration

24.01.2022 Apple blossom & bees. Even on a Sunday that started with a low of 0 C, a bit of cold sunshine and time of the season showed its heart. Very pretty signs of spring. #brocantespirit #signsofspring #appleblossom #blossoms #bees #inmygarden

24.01.2022 Blooming inspiration. I love finding inspiring books at the local independent bookseller, Ravens Parlour @theravensparlourbookstore in Tanunda. These two volumes are both gorgeous, full of colour and beautiful images, helping me dream of floral bounty in the garden in seasons to come. #brocantespirit #lovebooks #beautifulbooks #shopsmall #shoplocal #lovebookstores #independentbookstore #loveflowers #floraldreaming

23.01.2022 Wisteria in my city flat courtyard garden . I’m dreaming of spring again, we’re having a blast of winter rerun this week #brocantespirit #wisteria #waterlogue #springflowers

21.01.2022 After a day in the garden, charming little snowflake flowers look a perfect embellishment on my hand painted house sign. These are a favourite winter bloom, a bit reminiscent of snowdrops, and very sweet with their crisp white bell shaped flowers with green spots suspended on slender green stems. Wishing you have had a peaceful weekend, and hope all to stay safe and well #brocantespirit #lovecolour #frommygarden #snowflakeflower #lovegreen #handpaintedsign #housesign #housename

20.01.2022 Another of the tour of my waterlogue images of areas of my home. This is a favourite part of my studio space. It has a wall of Colourbond that we painted in gunmetal hammer finish metallic paint, which gives a classy industrial backdrop. And some favourite pieces. A big timber drawer unit painted in almost black that stores lots of art supplies. A very old authentic red anglepoise lamp, the vintage version of my new red anglepoise in my office. And my vintage industrial Sunshine combuster badge that I painted after researching the paint colours they used to have (featuring either yellow or yellow plus red paintwork). And a zebra stripe chair with a vintage cushion completes this scene. #brocantespirit #interiorstyle #studiospace #industrialstyle #colourbond #anglepoise #sunshine #sunshineharvester #lovevintage #waterlogue

20.01.2022 This is a small corner of my home office, softly painted with the waterlogue app. I love looking at a waterlogue of my photos to see light and detail with new eyes. It’s a very informative filter. And I often then choose to make some changes to highlight or magnify effects it shows. Here it shows how light can warm up my office, which is a bit shadowy. And the colours of the art, the turquoise vintage suitcase, and the red Anglepoise really pop. I’ve been thinking about stencilling the wall behind the painting. It’s time, so I need to decide colours and patterns. And so the fun begins. #brocantespirit #lovevintage #lovecolour #waterlogue #interiordecor

18.01.2022 Another view of my lounge room reveals more colour features. I never thought I was a purple person, but my journey into purple has started with an amazing landscape painting you see here. This painting has purples, mauves and moody dark violets as dramatic shadows on and across a golden landscape of hills. This painting looks like landscapes in the Barossa in drier seasons, but really it reminds me of the hills in Central California, just inland from the coastal areas. My vi...ntage library chair was already painted a soft purple hue and I love how it works here, carrying the eye to the beautiful painting beyond it. A little vintage needlepoint I found on my travels makes a fun pillow with its colourful array of harlequin diamonds, tying in with the coloured check rug at the hearth, seen in the previous post. The green lamp on the TV console ties in with the greens elsewhere in the room. (Image is one my photos, painted in @waterlogue). #brocantespirit #interiordécor #lovecolour #purple #vintagechair #mylifeincolour #waterlogue See more

18.01.2022 A little scene from my dressing area, showing a colour palette I always find calm and pleasing to the eye. Warm pale greys and pearly neutrals as a backdrop to soft aqua and fresh spring greens. The little table is a shabby piece I painted and above it my painting of green hydrangeas. (my photo is turned into a #waterlogue). #brocantespirit #interiorstyle #lovecolour #colourpalette #blueandgreen #prettycolours

18.01.2022 This is my colour mood for today, a year since my Lilac Best Boy chose his time to leave this world. Lilac for the name of his Burmese coat colour, warm french Grey for its hue, golden green for his eyes. He was a spirited companion and became a lovely and sweet elderly gentleman of 18 and a half who loved spending time in the studio with me and so much more. Pookie is always with me and is on my mind and in my heart, especially today. . #brocantespirit #colourinspiration #lilac #green #beautifulcat #lilacburmese #misshimsomuch #belovedcat @pookieandjefferson

16.01.2022 This is my home front-back door. You know, the sort you have in a country home. The stonework is lovely and trims are a charcoal blue grey. I have painted the big timber chair in a soft pistachio green. There are two little vintage children’s timber chairs (one just seen) wearing their original shabby chippy paintwork of deep green. I painted a house sign in soft coppery green, with the original name of this house, the first one built on this road, back in 1876. Not seen ...is a now hundred years old light fitting we restored and put up to light up this area at night. I have suspended melodious windchimes. And a rusty sculpture of a falcon stands guard, perched above a sandstone plinth. All shown in #waterlogue style. #brocantespirit #backdoor #countryhome #bluestone #oldstonehouse #barossavalley #baldhillroad #angaston #lovegreen #gardenstatue #myhome See more

14.01.2022 Starting to do a bit of tidy up, including finishing of a few UFOs. Here’s a Studio sign I started a long time ago. Time to finish it and put it up ! I’ve been a dull girl for two weeks with a lot of long days and some late nights working on a big work deadline. We made it and still more to do, but easier with a big first milestone behind my team. And now I get to create some more balance. More down time each evening, including creative breaks. Painting, even when I’m stayi...ng in the city. I’ve taken paints over and this week will take an easel and drop cloths. I’ve got a couple professional development goals for August. And aim to get more rest and exercise each day. Sending balance, light, and love to all. #brocantespirit #studio #unfinishedproject #ufos #unfinishedobjects #seekingworklifebalance #worklifebalance #becreative #becreativeeveryday See more

14.01.2022 What a wild ride this week. Huge workloads. A statewide covid lockdown. And I’ve been working on the weekend too. The roses are about done with their spring campaign now. These pretties are all peaches, cream and honey gorgeousness. I’ll be out deadheading tomorrow morning, ahead of another busy workweek. Stay safe and well & bon weekend #brocantespirit #loveroses #peachesandcream #paleroses #beautifulblooms #frommygarden

14.01.2022 Floral inspiration for day dreams on a cold weekend. This is from my collection of magazine tearsheets. It’s got some great ideas going for it. 13.01.2022 Back to the kitchen today for a view of a very practical functional feature, a large plate rack. This was custom built by our talented kitchen builders, Feltus Kitchens. I provided photos and measured the space and storage it needed to provide. It’s on the wall above the dishwasher, so clean plates and platters can be stowed easily, and it’s adjacent to the entry to the dining room, making it just as easy to set the table. A clever functional design detail from Mark Feltus w...as to make a few dowels removable, for easier cleaning or dusting of the plate rack shelves. Loving my modest collection of Emma Bridgewater Black Toast plates, which make everyday meals just a bit more whimsical and fun. 11.01.2022 Pretty colour and texture study. Colours channeling hues of roses from my gardens, the face of a sweet cherub, and a cerise silk border embroidered in little teensy hand stitches. #brocantespirit #vignette #roses #cherub

11.01.2022 One side of my big country kitchen now has a very useful wall of cupboards and drawers. Ten years ago it was just base drawers and a bench top (counter) work surface, with a large painting on the wall. I kept many of the cookbooks on the bench, plus the mixer. But this old house doesn’t have space for a pantry and we needed more storage. So 2 years ago we added upper cupboards to this wall, designing them for needed storage and also for work surface space. The bottom of the ...glazed doors is set to allow the KitchenAid mixer to be tilted, while in place. And the cupboard to its left are designed to hold four shelves of cookbooks the door is open here). On the right (not shown) the cupboard contains juicer, blender, a wine rack and a couple shelves of storage boxes, labelled with their contents. Base cabinets are grey, wall cabinets are a milky white. The benches are a grey stone by essastone. 11.01.2022 Elegance that celebrated a special event and was part of many gatherings & memories. This #waterlogue version photo is of my parents’ beautiful wedding china, gifted to them setting by setting for their wedding at the end of 1959. It’s a beautiful rich ivory porcelain with platinum edges and in a very classic timeless design. It graced every holiday table and many other gatherings and celebrations in their home for decades. A couple years after my mum’s departure from thi...s world, I was clearing my dad’s house for sale. It meant clearing both mum and dad’s possessions and putting dads treasures into storage, as his nursing home residence wouldn’t have room for most of his belongings. It was an emotional time for me because I had to rationalise his things (I knew he didn’t want to let go of), but he needed a level of care we couldn’t arrange in his home. The memories and emotions of clearing their lifetime of special photos, art, books, and mementos was traumatic for me. In fact I had a mini meltdown late one night, there alone working hour after hour going through their things. The trigger was the wedding china. I couldn’t send it to Australia and there wasn’t family to take it at the time. I didn’t want it to be with strangers. It was a symbol, but one I didn’t think I should put in storage. I recall posting online asking what ideas people had. And a lovely friend Erin let me know she’d keep it for me. I can’t even begin to say how grateful I was, as I knew she’d look after, use and appreciate it. I sent her the china and took this photo before delivering it to be professionally packed and shipped to her. I know she treasured and enjoyed it, which means so much to me. Then this week the china completed its journey on this earth, as it perished in the horrible bush fires in Oregon this past week, where Erin recently moved and now lives. I’m ever so grateful Erin is safe and OK. I believe this set of china has had a purpose as a symbol of new beginnings and the beauty of service of gatherings of dear ones. Though it’s sad it has left, it’s been a beautiful symbol of sharing, gratitude, and friendship . #brocantespirit @erinspirational #weddingchina See more

10.01.2022 This rainy week has me dreaming of warm days in months to come, when my English Roses are in bloom. I’ve officially finished rose pruning, this past Sunday. Today is the New Moon and I’m setting intentions, some personal goals, and sending beautiful thoughts to these gorgeous plants resting ahead of their big bloom season. 10.01.2022 Coffee break on Sunday, August is nearly done and it’s hard to believe. Vintage China and linen check napery. Yellow, green and white always cheer me up. And a spoonful of Happy too#brocantespirit #coffeebreak #vintagechina #lovevintage #stampedsilver #shabbysilver #silverspoon

10.01.2022 More is more. After a little taste of spring, feels like it’s back to later winter again. This photo is a waterlogue rendition of an old tearsheet from a british interiors magazine some years back. But I love the chintz on chintz floral pattern play of two colourways of Sanderson Chelsea roses, soft greys on walls and soft lemon and fresh greens on the sofa. White trims and a pretty view from the window make this room lovely to behold. And one I’d love to spend time in. #brocantespirit #interiorinspiration #interiorinspo #florals #sandersonchelsea #loveroses #prettyroom #lovecolour

10.01.2022 It’s the season to put pretty touches on gifts for dear friends and family. It’s a little ritual that is peaceful and all about the pretty. I have enjoyed making this one look special with @bespokepress holiday paper in pink and soft blue. Olive satin ribbon and vintage millinery posies from my collection of old silk and velvet, and a small round metal edged tag. 09.01.2022 Loving the colours of this butterflies collection painted in #waterlogue. I’ve been editing and combining my photos to create compositions for paintings. This one is pretty good already #brocantespirit #butterflies #butterflycollection #lovecolour

09.01.2022 Colour inspiration for a turning season. Beautiful warm gold greens and glowing lichen & moss hues inside and out look fresh framed in crisp white. Softened with textiles in warm and pale greys of linens and antique flax. Use of colours indoors that connects with what is outside is a great way to draw the eye outside to nature. Such a beautiful classic timeless palette that is easy to live with and doesn’t get old. 09.01.2022 This is one of my favourite lamps, a ceramic birdcage lamp of deep emerald green. When I found it there was only one, so it’s a singleton It stands next to the TV, to cast warm light in the space at night. I like this long Chinese tassel draped over its shade, an idea borrowed from what I saw in beautiful hotels in China . Keeping the lamp company is a large vintage silverplate trophy holding white flowers and a small shabby vintage clock. 08.01.2022 Finding colour to warm this crisp day. Here’s a colour palette I love. Warm reds, oranges, and pinks. 06.01.2022 Colours and blooms. Beautiful old pastels from my father’s old art box of pastels and roses from this weekend’s rose harvest in my garden. Delicate apricots and palest porcelain pinks, light corals and warm pinks, and deeper mid pinks. Such a pretty palette for a warm late spring day #brocantespirit #roses #loveroses #artbox #rosesfrommygarden #davidaustinroses #lovecolour #prettycolour

05.01.2022 I love the freshness of greens, they never let my spirits down. This is my lounge room, painted in waterlogue style. The chair, artwork, a framed map and a vintage wall clock all have their own greens. Like in nature, the different greens all work beautifully together, creating a symphony of greens for the eye. The walls are a neutral backdrop of not-white, painted a sand coloured hue, punctuated with milky white trims. Plenty of black and white elements and old timber floorboards anchor the colours in the room. There may be other colours too, as hinted to in the hearth side rug ! (Walls are Porters ‘Icelandic Stone’ and trims are ‘Milk’). #brocantespirit #lovecolour #lovegreen #greens #waterlogue #interiordecor

04.01.2022 More is more . I’m inspired by the colours, textures and perfumes of these natural beauties from my rose gardens. This is the first year in the 10 here at this property that I haven’t been away on business or family needs travel for the spring roses bloom peak. Feeling blessed at the abundance from my garden. #brocantespirit #frommygarden #loveroses #roses #davidaustinroses #allthecolours

03.01.2022 My classic country kitchen was created almost ten years ago when we did a major program of renovations in our old stone house. The previous kitchen was over 50 years old and in poor repair. We did major restoration work, from new subfloors all the way up to new supports for the sagging ceiling. All the old cupboards, sink, and appliances were removed, not a thing retained other than the old window above the sink. We put in new electricals, gas, plumbing, and hot water servic...e. We chased the electrical conduits into walls, which give a more elegant look than the old chunky exposed conduits. The ceiling of old fireplace where you see the cooker was raised to a safe height for a gas range and also for better use of the cooker and we fitted the original chimney with an extractor fan (an engineering feat in itself). A few functional design splurges are seen: a stainless steel Belfast sink, elegant English tapware, a cranberry Falcon cooker. Smart sourcing found beautiful and affordable light pendants, tiling is standard white subway tiles, and warm grey porcelain tile flooring was found on sale. Shaker style cabinets were custom designed for the space and finished in grey paintwork and topped with engineered stone benches. The walls are Porter’s Old Church White, a pale soft oyster white hue that morphs with changing light. A restored vintage factory clock with shabby chippy green patina adds a finishing touch above the cooker. 02.01.2022 Continuing the journey at home looking through Waterlogue filtered glasses. This is this year’s edition of my Spring seasonal Blood Orange & Strawberry Marmalade. It has it all, flavour, fragrance, colour. And the texture is perfection. Gloriously red orange with saturated pieces of strawberry and delightful bursts of blood orange peel. Making just one batch this year, so I’m declaring it a limited edition. Shown on pretty crockery and with a little green handled Laguoile knife. Testing the marmalade today on toasted Apex sourdough @apexbakery. #brocantespirit #inmykitchen #countrykitchen #handmadejam #delicious #prettytable #bloodorangemarmalade #lovecolour #springedition #waterlogue

01.01.2022 Today I’m ending the workweek thinking pink. Here’s a photo from my magazine tearsheet archive showing a fabulous vivid dresser with big pink spirit next to the deepest pink and crimson roses from my garden. I’ll be channeling pink power to get all my work done today. What colour gets you through to the weekend ? #brocantespirit #lovecolour #lovepink #pinkpower #loveroses #mygardenroses #colourenergy
