02.01.2022 Introducing ‘Songs From A Resting Place’ from Leroy Johnson. Download here: https://bit.ly/30OEJje Leroy Johnson is a Barkindji/ Malyangaapa man with strong c...onnections to the lower Baaka (Darling) communities in far west NSW. He is also the first Aboriginal Park Manager of Mutawintji National Park. Over the past 20 years he has been performing and writing music about self-determination, connection to country, culture and family. ‘Songs From A Resting Place’ were captured on Malyangapa country at Mutawintji in early 2019. Of that weekend Leroy says I remember how humbling it was for people to come all the way out to Mutawintji to give me a chance to record some of my songs... It’s funny because the people out there just thought it was a sing along or something ‘cause they were cheering a few songs and making noise as if at a show, suppose it was. I remember the flies and finding that beautiful spot in the rocks to do some recordings. Lugging a 12-channel desk through the bush and exclaiming with delight after every take was sound recordist Rex Watts. Rex very sadly headed off to the big studio in the sky before seeing these recordings released, making these recordings all the more sentimental. Leroy says Rex looked like a seasoned rocker. I loved his attitude while recording us. It was as if he felt privileged to be recording our songs and was generous with his time and knowledge. It was I who was privileged to hear him play his dobro and to benefit from his generosity. Good fella he was. https://bit.ly/30OEJje
