24.01.2022 Stumbled across this the other day...

23.01.2022 Hi all, Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, for the safety of all participants and in an effort to help 'flatten the curve', we will be suspending all Broken River Writers face to face meetings. For now we will stick to talking about character development and other writing stuffs online using our email group and this page.... In the meantime, stay safe, wash your hands, self exile, don't panic, read a lot and write a lot

22.01.2022 Please pass this on to any writers with disabilities you know https://mobile.abc.net.au//callout-for-writers-w/12731676

21.01.2022 From one of our writers who does spend a lot of time in isolation :-)

21.01.2022 I'm missing Writers' Corner at the Benalla Library, how about you? Ches & Tanya have been working on getting zoom happening so we can at least meet digitally, if not in the flesh. As our meetings are going online, let us know if a different time/day suits better.... With the restrictions not looking to ease anytime soon we are going to attempt to virtual writers groups. We will try zoom. If it doesn't work, we'll try something else. You can download the ap for your phone if you don’t have a laptop. It’s free. If anyone has any other tech suggestions for virtual meetings, feel free to comment below. We will do our best to accommodate everyone and make the technology work for all. Our first meeting will be Aug Wed 5th at 5pm - being as it's our first attempt there may be some wrinkles we'll need to iron out. Be ready to share about your writing journey. We'll have a chat about developing great characters and hopefully, tech willing, we'll even do some writing exercises! If you're not a part of our email group and want to join us, comment below and we will PM you the invitation link

11.01.2022 Prompts for October 2020 - * write about 'Winter's Last Gasp' - be as metaphorical, literal or anything else as you'd like * go to any bookshelf in your house, from the middle shelf choose the first book. Open to the second chapter and find the third sentence. Use this to start your story * 2020 Vision / 2020 Hindsight

07.01.2022 Broken River Writers are a group of locals who love to write. We come from all over Benalla Rural City Council and from the surrounding towns of Wangaratta, Euroa, Violet Town and sometimes as far as Shepparton. We come from all walks of life and are at different stages in our writing lives, from beginner to vastly experienced. Among us are writers of all genres poets, contemporary fiction, sci fi & fantasy, horror, romance, crime & murder, literary fiction. We meet toget...her on the last Wednesday of the month (except for December) at the Benalla Library, 5-6:30pm (we have been known to run late). We share stories, talk about our writing, books & movies, share writing from prompts, do some writing exercises, sometimes we run events at North East Artisans and sometimes we get together for a shared meal.

06.01.2022 Hey all you writers out there. Hope life is good. Writing Prompts have been requested, so Writing Prompts are being sent out. Here are four to choose from. Write one, write them all. Our next Writers' Corner will be Weds Sept 30, 5-6:30pm. I'll send out the zoom link closer to the date. ... 1. Write about someone who’s famous for something they never actually did. 2. Write about a day-in-the-life of a first-time parent and their newborn child 3. Write a story involving a conversation that’s packed with subtext; the characters aren’t quite saying what they mean. 4. Write about a TV show called "Second Chances." Have fun.

03.01.2022 Text copied from C.R.Gardner's page. These are a couple of things I've found helpful during these strange times. The link is to a long, but great and helpful article. Link is in the comments. Essentially, don't beat yourself up about the fact that you're not getting lots done during iso & lockdown - whether it's writing, garden projects, cooking, house projects... ... There are some peeps who can and are. I have friends who've been renovating, building, planting and achieving lotsa things. I'm pleased for them, and sometimes jealous. Their productivity during iso and lockdown is scary. But at the other end, there are also many who are struggling just to get out of bed in the morning and function normally. Wherever I am on the scale is fine. Wherever you are on the scale is fine. There are days when all I can do is sit on the couch and watch netflix (watching lots of anime and Korean horror) but then there are days when I get lots of writing and other productive stuff done. I'm learning to celebrate my achievements and cut myself some slack when I'm struggling.
