07.01.2022 Hanif Kureishi’s iconic and Oscar-nominated screenplay My Beautiful Laundrette was brought to the stage at the CURVE theatre, Leicester, in 2019. Set in London during the Thatcher years, My Beautiful Laundrette tells the story of young British Pakistani, Omar, who transforms his Uncle’s run-down laundrette into a thriving business. After being confronted by a fascist gang, Omar recognises school friend Johnny and uses their history to diffuse the situation. As they renovate ...the laundrette together, love blossoms between them. This culture clash comedy is a subversive work of social realism, exploring cultural conflict, gender equality, class and generational strife, all presented against a funky backdrop of 80's music and culture. Whilst The Curve remains closed this archive recording of the final dress rehearsal is available to view online, along with the show program, cast discussion and audio descriptive notes, at www.curveonline.co.uk//watch-our-archive-recording-of-han/ Please be aware My Beautiful Laundrette is suitable for ages 15+ and contains strong language and adult themes including violence and racism.

04.01.2022 Ten Years ago the Rosie Kay Dance Company created the multi award winning piece called 5 Soldiers. This month her new production, 10 Soldiers, was to have been seen at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Sadly one of the worlds greatest performance festivals is not happening this year but, with thanks to the dance company, we do have the opportunity to see 10 Soldiers online now, until the 19th August. Using dance, 10 Soldiers portrays how intense army training moulds raw recruits into a fighting team, with the mental and physical battles that ensue. Music is provided by Metallica, The Clash, Katy Perry, Tammy Wynette and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTw2PeLFjQ0

03.01.2022 Matthew Bourne’s ‘gorgeous take on the film classic’ ( The Times) will be screened at the Brolga for the first time.
