23.01.2022 June is the month where we aim to raise awareness for Burns and Scalds in the workplace. There are numerous prevention methods for burns, but we have put together our top three: 1. Training - Ensure that all staff are trained to understand burn risk areas in the workplace, and know how to effectively avoid these risks. 2. Procedures - Implement routine procedures and safety checks on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis. These may include tasks such as ensuring that all potentially hot equipment is powered off at close of business, or organising regular maintenance. 3. Signage - Implement appropriate signage to warn others of the risks, and ensure appropriate safety equipment (such as fire extinguishers or first aid kits) are nearby all identified risk areas.
22.01.2022 Safety signs are used in almost every workplace, but have you ever wondered why? Today's heavily symbol-based safety signs can be tracked all the way back to the symbols drawn on cave walls in the Stone Age, or Hieroplyphocs on tombs in ancient Egypt. Humans place a lot of emphasis on signs and symbols to portray meaning quickly, and certain symbols have become essential to communicate specific messages. A skull and crossbones is a great example - this symbol has represented "poison" for over 1,000 years and continues to be recognisable today. However, many of today's safety signs, symbols, colours and shapes etc. are different from those used only 50 years ago. If you're interested in reading more about safety signs used today, check out our handy info sheet: http://bit.ly/SafetySignsSymbols

19.01.2022 It's October - National Safe Work Month! While safety is important every day, this Month is the perfect time to thoroughly consider the WHS regulations and policies in your workplace. 19.01.2022 STOP Signs were originally designed in 1922 to improve individual responsibility for vehicle drivers. The first designs for Stop Signs looked very different in terms of shape and colour, but they massively helped to improve road safety for vehicles and pedestrians. The octagonal shape was implemented later in 1954, and the famous Red colour was introduced year's later once technology had advanced enough to create a durable and reflective red coating. Fun Fact - William Phelps Eno, the man who pioneered the original stop sign design, actually never drove a day in his life.

12.01.2022 What does this 1% look like? You may know it better as dehydration. Fluid intake is so important that even the slightest decrease of 1% or more can cause dehydration and impair one's cognitive performance and ability to manage mood. Whys that? When a bodys intake of hydrating substances, including beverages and food, are less than what is naturally expelled from the body in the form of sweat, urine and other outputs, dehydration occurs. This balance can be further influenced by diet, levels of activity, weight, age and environmental conditions (for example, if its hot youll require more hydration). Maintaining a balanced fluid intake depending on these factors, and recognising the signs of dehydration are two great steps to staying healthy this Summer.

09.01.2022 This photo was taken at The 1969 Targa Florio, in Italy. Can you spot the expanding barrier that's dividing the cars? We find it fascinating that a safety device, similar to one we sell today, was present during a motor race over 50 years ago. Interestingly, barriers and barricades have been around far longer than you may think. Safety Barricades date back as far as the 16th Century. Barricade structures were a widely used tool in conflicts around France at this time, and were later present during the infamous French Revolution.

04.01.2022 The GHS system is admittedly complicated - so we've written a blog to make it a little easier to understand. Read our latest blog now to find out how the GHS works (or doesn't work?) in Australia and how it may be affecting you, without you even realising. Happy Friday!

01.01.2022 Water hazards don't just exist at the pool or beach. They're a very real consideration for a number of professionals across Australia. These include engineers, maintenance staff, construction workers, electricians, miners, and more. Many Occupational Health and Safety risks exist when working on or near water, including drowning, electrocution, hypothermia, water-induced falls and even unsafe drinking water. These risks are preventable given correct preparation, procedures and the use of appropriate tools. We believe that raising awareness of these risks is important. Understanding them is a must for any professionals working directly or indirectly with water.
