24.01.2022 I just wanted to let you all know that I have made the discussion that my CONSULTS will now be via PHONE or FACETIME. This is because I want to minimise risk to our clients in the clinic, our families and our community! I thought it would help minimise the amount that people need to be out and about too. As much as I enjoy seeing my patients in clinic, this decision just feels right considering all that is going on. This will not effect the consult I provide, it just means it... won’t be face to face and all supplements and herbs will be posted to each patient if required. I hope that you can all understand why I have made this decision and I look forward to speaking to you still! I am here to support you with what ever I can from a naturopathic point of view. Wether that is immune support for you and your family, or assistance with anxiety and stress during this challenging time, I am here! 21.01.2022 Zinc || I always first recommend to try and get what we need as far as nutrients etc via our diet where we can. However sometimes we may need to take a supplement. So should you take a zinc Supplement? That depends. A survey conducted in The United States of America found that only 55.6% of people’s zinc consumption met the recommended standards. Zinc is important in growth and development, in the function and production of immune cells etc. Signs and symptoms of zinc de...ficiency are: - Growth and development that is slowed. - Dermatitis - Alopecia - Immune system deficiencies - Wounds that don’t heal as quickly as normal due to a reduction in collagen production - Night blindness - Depression and or mental fatigue - Erectile dysfunction - And more .... If you have any of the these signs and symptoms then do you go straight and out and buy a zinc supplement.... No, but should you get your zinc levels checked and see a health care professional to investigate further? Yes, I think you should. 18.01.2022 This image gives some good tips for dealing with anxiety but I also wanted to add to this.... Other things that may help with anxiety are: - Herbs like Passionflower or Withania. 15.01.2022 You know the saying You are what you eat...... Well, I feel it should say You are what you absorb! I have heard similar sayings to this before and it makes sense. You can eat lots of healthy food, however you may not be absorbing it.... You know those people that eat lots of iron rich foods and are still low in iron..... ! This is what I am talking about.... It is called malabsorption syndrome. This is where our intestines are not absorbing the nutrients from the food we... eat at levels that are needed for the body to function optimally. Causes of malabsorption may be: - Damage to the intestines through inflammation, surgery or infection etc. - Long term use of antibiotics. - Diseases such as Crohn’s disease, coeliac disease, pancreatitis ( chronic ) etc. - Food intolerances. Eg lactose - Disease of the liver, gall bladder or pancreas. - Parasites - Drugs that may damage the lining of the intestinal tract. Eg tetracycline. - Low digestive enzymes - Short bowel syndrome - And possibly more..... So does your low iron mean you have one of these issues? No, it may just be that you aren’t eating the most nutritious foods or other reasons.... However, do I feel that you should investigate WHY you are feeling the way you are, and WHAT is causing it..... ABSOLUTELY. Once we know the cause, we can make a plan to try and rectify the issues. Symptoms that you may not be absorbing your food properly may be: - IBS symptoms such as bloating, constipation, diahorrhea, gas, pain and or discomfort in the abdomen. - light coloured stools - Stools that float - Dry hair - Edema ( fluid retention ) - Anaemia - Weight loss - Muscle wasting - Fatigue - And more...... So how do we work out what’s going on? - questionnaires - Blood tests - Stool tests - Breath tests - And more.....
