21.01.2022 2020 - The year of GIVING I mentioned the other day in my stories that I’m in this for the long haul and I wasn’t joking, not even a little bit. So 2020 for Brooke and Belly is going to be about doing as much as I can to keep giving to those in need. ... Like so many I am in awe of Celeste Barber and the amazing job she has done raising much needed funds, Lisa Messenger and her amazing work with Foodbank Australia and Cat Sanz who is working with some truly inspirational people and businesses to fill the gaps and make sure that all the gorgeous kids on the spectrum have the essentials they need to get through these tragic times. If you aren’t following these ladies please do, they are supremely good humans This is my plan for the entire of 2020; I will make the below donation to charity for each item sold from my website or purchased from me at a market or event $20 from every pair of earrings or pendant $40 from every bracelet or necklace I will also continue to work on special limited charity fundraisers like the current flower earrings for the Salvos for other charities throughout the year. I don’t have it all worked out yet but I am getting a plan together. I’m thinking I will pick 4 charities and split between them equally but I will try and work it out quickly and get it publicised so you know what is going on. I’m in a very fortunate position to be able to do this as Brooke and Belly is not my primary source of income, I know many are donating privately as well as through businesses but many do need to make a living as well so be kind, don’t judge, just help where you can and deem fit to do so Let’s just support each other in every way we can With much love Brooke

18.01.2022 Polymer Clay FUN The ever amazing Christi Friesen is currently teaching at The Whimsical Bead and I was lucky enough to get spots in the classes held yesterday So much fun and so many laughs as always with Christi! ... Turtles in the morning, fish in the afternoon and slugs last night. Such an adventure of fun and quirkiness I am in no way a sculptor (swipe right for that evidence ) but I love having a go and more so love the supporting environment that Christi and Dani provide. 17.01.2022 To quote Celeste Barber - "This is terrifying" Shes not the first nor will she be the last to say it either. Ive watched, Ive cried, and I obsessively watch more and I think its because I live in hope that we will see some good news amongst the absolute devastation.... I honestly never thought I would see the day where I was happy to see a WATCH and ACT instead of an EMERGENCY WARNING in my facebook feed. Its beyond sad but we are not without hope and we have a truly amazing sense of community here in Australia, we are so very very lucky. Im just one person, with a tiny little side business and Id love to try and help a little more than my own personal contributions. There are so many small businesses out there doing exactly what I am going to do and provide a percentage of sales or a nominated amount to charities supporting those in need. 10.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago I posted the below on my instagram and in my infinite wisdom, only just realised it didnt share across to my facebook page as well.. Better late than never right?! Well hasnt 2020 been a gem so far!... Im exhausted, as I expect many are even if you are hiding it #ifeelyou Ive worked so incredibly hard since this virus hit to support my employer in the hope we all make it out the other side #lesspaymorehours Ive had to put aside my creative adventures because I just havent had the energy or headspace #survivalmode My anxiety reared its head for the first time in nearly 15 years and I chewed my nails to the point they bled #ashamed Ive had many many restless and unsettled nights and that just adds to the exhaustion #thanksanxiety Am I sharing this so you feel sorry for me? Absolutely not.. Just know you arent alone if you are suffering at the moment. Its a shit time for so many and I know Im one of the lucky ones, I still have a job when so many have been lost. Ive worked on forcing myself to exercise more over the last few weeks and that is helping with the sleeping and anxiety #thankful And nails salons where allowed to open again in Vic so I was able to put a stop to the nail biting too #stillashamed Lets hope the second half of the year is less traumatic for us all If you read this far without getting bored #yourock! 06.01.2022 last night on my way home from work I stopped at Melbourne central to go to the @beekeeperparade shop (finally!) Im still deciding on a bag so I started small with these two beauties. The coin purse has little pockets to put your cards or notes in its going to be perfect for my holiday!... 06.01.2022 Now before everyone starts freaking out.. Yes I did get married.. once. Ive also been divorced.. once. This picture is from June 2012. Im currently in a very happy relationship and have been for 3 years now but I think this picture is very representative of how my Brooke and Belly story started for two reasons.. Firstly, It has my sister, Michelle in it and she has been the constant source of creativity and encouragement in my life. ... Shes a very talented maker in her own right and has always encouraged me to give things a go. She is also responsible for the bead show adventure that introduced me to @thewhimsicalbead Secondly, the demise of my marriage (and 13 year relationship) forced me to find something for me. Something that was a bit of an escape from what was falling down around me, a place I could go where no one really knew me or what I was going through. It will forever be referred to as creative therapy in my world I attended my first class at @thewhimsicalbead on January 18th 2014, it was a beginners polymer clay class and I loved it. Eventually after a lot of "Im never doing that", I did attend a chainmaille class and as they say, the rest is history! I have a very high pressure corporate job during the week and I dont get to spend nearly as much time on this little biz as I would like but Ill keep shuffling along because chainmaille jewellery just makes me happy Brooke xx See more
