23.01.2022 Thanks to Tim & Cooper from Ram Man NSW for the great job shearing all our ewes today. This is the second time they have shorn our ewes and we’re very happy with the professional service. Brendan’s back is also very thankful too!

23.01.2022 We completed our annual AI program for the Autumn lambing over the weekend, and what a team of sires we had to choose from! 4 exceptional young rams which will continue to drive our breeding program in the direction we want to go. We have semen available in Gooramma Ribeye and Gooramma 682/18, contact us today so you can benefit from these elite industry leading sires too.

22.01.2022 We’ve been pretty quiet on Facebook lately. Like most of NSW, the weather hasn’t dealt us any favours, meaning we’ve been constantly feeding stock and we’ve culled our ewe flock back to our best performers. Some good news yesterday though after pregnancy scanning our spring lambing ewes, with over 160% lambs on board (including a couple of dry ewes which will find a good market in the saleyards!). Now we just need some rain to get the crops and pastures going so they have something to eat when they hit the ground.

22.01.2022 This afternoon we shore the 4 rams we are offering in the Australasian Dorset Championships online ram sale (2 Brooklyn Park rams and 2 Tymon rams). 3 of these rams are only late August 2019 drop and all 4 rams are purely pasture fed. They’ve had no show preparation, with all our 2019 drop rams running in 1 contemporary group. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for individual details and videos on each of the rams. The sale will be held on Saturday 5th September on AuctionsPlus. Our rams will also be on show at the NSW Dorset Championships in Cowra on the 4th & 5th September.

20.01.2022 Ribeye progeny performing on the hook too! Some of you may know that our sire, Gooramma Ribeye 220/17 was selected as one of 12 sires in the first year of progeny testing in the Bowan Park Poll Dorset Research Flock. This has been a great initiative by the Legge family and will be a huge benefit to the Poll Dorset breed and the lamb industry. Lambs born in the Bowan Park flock have had data recorded at all stages of their lives, and earlier this week they were processed and c...arcass data was collected. The final data is still being collated but we are excited to share these photos of one of Ribeye’s progeny. 34.2kg carcass weight at 20 weeks with no grain feeding and showing some exceptional eye muscle area and IMF. A great example of what Poll Dorsets can do and what we are striving for in our breeding program. We have Ribeye semen in the tank and ready to go, contact us with any inquiries.

19.01.2022 We headed to Bedgerabong Show today and as usual it was a very good showing with 5 Poll Dorset exhibitors. We had a great result with Brooklyn Park 1-17 awarded champion Poll Dorset ram. The judge commented that he is one of the best carcased Poll Dorset rams I’ve ever seen. 1-17 will be offered for sale at the Australasian Dorset Championships Sale on Sunday 9th September.

19.01.2022 57mm of rain and a 15 degree drop in maximum temperature in the last 36 hours doesn’t make for the best conditions for lambing, but these smart little ones have the right idea to keep warm. Having the ewes and lambs in a well sheltered paddock means we’ve had no losses from exposure.

18.01.2022 We’re still buzzing after having the opportunity to team up with Estjam Poll Dorset Stud and purchase Gooramma 220-17 Ribeye for the top price of $16,000 at today’s Gooramma Poll Dorset Stud sale. We first picked out Ribeye from a mob of 400 ram lambs in November last year and he has impressed at every inspection since with his balance, correctness, muscle and volume. With great raw data at every stage and a pedigree full of top sires, we can’t wait to see the impact he will have on our program.

17.01.2022 With this year’s Australasian Dorset Championships sneaking up quickly, we are proud to start showcasing our team of rams which will be catalogued in the sale on Sunday, September 9 in Bendigo. We are confident that you will not find a team of rams like this anywhere else this sale season. If you’re looking for early maturity, moderate frame and muscle, with the raw data to back it up, you need to check out these rams. Brooklyn Park 27/17 (Tw) will be one of the rams on offer. 1st ram in wool Sydney Royal and 2nd ram in wool NSW State Sheep Show, Dubbo. Keep an eye out for some photos after he is shorn.

15.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that we now have Gooramma Ribeye 220/17 semen available for sale. Ribeye is an exciting new sire which we purchased in September for $16,000 in partnership with Estjam Poll Dorset Stud. Sired by Gooramma Headway 270/14, Ribeye offers exceptional muscle through the loin and hindquarter, as well as depth and width of body and impeccable balance. Ribeye will add muscle, doing ability and Poll Dorset type to your flock while retaining structure, growth and class. Contact us with any enquiries.

14.01.2022 First lambs for the 2020 drop today, a great set of twins by Gooramma Ribeye out of a top performing 2017 drop ewe by Tattykeel 187/15. Bit of a weird feeling having green feed to lamb onto after the last few years!

13.01.2022 We ran the April/May drop lambs over the scales yesterday, this was the winner at 35kg at 9 weeks old, on natural pasture with no grain, and showing the carcase and skin we want. Yet to crunch numbers on g/head/day on the whole mob but quite happy with the weights overall.

13.01.2022 Gooramma Ribeye is really proving to be an impact sire. With over 200 progeny in 4 flocks in his first season, his lambs are showing the extra thickness, hindquarter shape and fat cover that he leaves. The recent results from his progeny in the Bowan Park Poll Dorset Research Flock as well as the jump in his Lambplan ASBVs show he is a sire for the modern prime lamb industry. Semen is available for your 2019/2020 breeding program, contact us today.

13.01.2022 Introducing the first of 2 new sires we purchased last week - Tattykeel 1036/18 1036 is one of the first sons of Tattykeel Masterstroke 61/17 to be offered for sale. Masterstroke was supreme exhibit at Sydney Royal & NSW State Sheep Show last year, and his dam 273/15 was awarded champion ewe by Brendan when he judged at the 2016 Sydney Royal. An August drop ram, 1036 impresses with his balance and structural correctness, along with true breed type, carcass conformation and good scan data. We will use 1036 as the lead sire over our Tymon ewes.

11.01.2022 A bitter-sweet moment for us this week with the arrival of our new Tymon Poll Dorset stud ewes. The Tymon stud was run by our great mate, the late Emma Clark. Em was very passionate about her Dorsets and we feel very privileged to have the opportunity to continue her legacy with her sheep. We plan to keep the Tymon stud as a seperate program to the Brooklyn Park stud. Thank you to the Clark family for allowing us to carry on Emma’s dreams, we plan to do her proud.

08.01.2022 Excellent day for the culmination of our limited 2019 show season at Cowra Lamb Show today. 3 lambs 3 first places Champion Poll Dorset ram lamb and ewe lamb Supreme Poll Dorset (ewe lamb)... Supreme ewe of show 1st breeder’s group Thanks to all the other exhibitors on a great showing today. See more

07.01.2022 After a 12 month break it was great to be back in the show ring today with a small team of lambs at Bedgerabong Show. As always at Bedgerabong there was a top line-up of sheep from 6 Poll Dorset exhibitors. We were lucky enough to pick up 1st from 9 entries in the ewe lamb class with a daughter of Gooramma Ribeye (pictured). We also came 3rd from 8 entries in the ram lamb class with a son of Brooklyn Park 6/17.

02.01.2022 Here is the second of our new sire purchases last week- Gooramma 682/18. 682 is one of the first sons of the renowned Gooramma Guru 308/16 to be offered for sale. He is out of a ewe by Windermere T-Bone (NZ), the highest muscle:weight scanning ram under Stockscan. His dam is a twin sister to the dam of the $10,000 top priced ram at the sale, who was also sired by Guru. We first picked 682 in February at 7 months of age as a ram with great early growth and an early maturit...y pattern, laying down muscle and fat at a younger age. After tracking his progress through the year he continued to impress, recording great raw data scans at all ages. His Lambplan ASBVs of PEMD +3.2, PFAT +0.1, C+ 210 as well as being a Loinmax gene carrier and AA cold tolerance were icing on the cake. We plan to use 682 in conjunction with Gooramma Ribeye 220/17, who has left a line of impressive progeny in his first season. Semen will be available in 682, while we have also sold a semen share for an ET program prior to purchase.

02.01.2022 Had the 2019 drop ewe lambs in the yards today and couldn’t help but get a quick video of a few Gooramma Ribeye ewe lambs. The volume and width through the body and loin of these ewes is amazing, coupled with a great hindquarter- exactly what you expect from Ribeye. Excited to be able to continue to develop our program with maternal genetics like this!

01.01.2022 Today we said farewell to one of the biggest mentors behind us here at Brooklyn Park. Martin Gilmore was one of the first breeders I met when I started to travel to major Poll Dorset events in search of genetics. He welcomed me as a new breeder and before long our friendship had grown. He was always there with advice on breeding and genetics, but also life in general. Martin was truely one of Australia’s greatest stud masters and the seedstock industry has lost one of its most talented and dedicated producers. But more than that, we’ve lost a great mate. RIP Marty, I hope there’s some sheep up there for you to work with.
