25.01.2022 I'm a massive fan of business blogging, which you might already know... But for some - particularly writers - blogging can be agony. On The Content Byte podcast, I talked about why I love blogging and what to blog about so that it works to magnetise the right people to your business.... Thanks for having me rachelslist.com.au: https://www.rachelslist.com.au/bl/the-content-byte-podcast/

24.01.2022 Cant wait to up the embarrassment ante with my kids. They find it cool right now that I teach Instagram. Wait until I start making Tik Toks! Haha. Maximum parental embarrassment

22.01.2022 {latest blog} Trust me, I’m lying when I tell you that having your own business is super good fun, all of the time. But #blessed #lyfegoals #winning reign supreme, so I’m morally obligated to counter the prevalent propaganda with some hard home truths. While growing your business in this dumpster fire of a year might seem preposterous for some, other business owners have experienced monumental growth. If you’d like to grow your business, or you’re in the grips of agonising gr...owing pains, this one’s for you. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/growing-your-business/

22.01.2022 Ive been running an experiment this year: to treat my time as more precious than money. Because Im pretty good at saving money. Im financially conservative. I feel good about not spending. But time is finite. Money isnt. And it makes more sense (to me at least) to treat my earning potential as open-ended while my hours are limited. And I can report, so far so good. Its a process. Changing habits and beliefs and behaviors isnt quick or straightforward. ... Try it on for size and report back.

20.01.2022 What’s working right now

20.01.2022 Have you taken the sink or swim challenge? Are you going to swim? Ive decided to opt-out of the global recession. Ive considered it, and Im not participating. Im happy to report that Im not alone and that, so far, its going well. I invite you to join me! We wont be a popular gang. People wont appreciate our joy. They wont necessarily like hearing about our rising profitability or increased revenue. Through no fault of our own, we will trigger others.... But we wont apologise. We wont shrink. We wont feel ashamed because making ourselves smaller doesnt make other people bigger. It just means were all small, together. Im not denying my luck or privilege nor am I minimising the very real hardships that others face. But business owners who are thriving right now are not sitting in front of the nightly news, wringing their hands and fretting. If youd like to thrive in business, and youre committed to DOING, not worrying, then join me in opting out of the global recession. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/thrive-business-recession/

20.01.2022 Good news! I appreciate that businesses have been knocked around, back-to-front and sideways, but dont use this pandemic as a reason to stop trying. If youve taken my sink or swim challenge, and you chose to swim, keep going!

19.01.2022 Two journalists in the space of two weeks have called me to ask if its a good time to start a business during a pandemic and economic downturn. Absolutely! I replied. But only if youre determined to thrive.

19.01.2022 Future-proof your business, as much as you can

18.01.2022 The audacity of asking

18.01.2022 Google has been good to me lately. The impact of Covid-19 means more people online, and more businesses prioritising digital marketing and online sales training. A journalist found me and featured me talking about starting a business during Covid, Ive had new one-to-one business coaching clients, custom digital training, and course participants all whove found me through Google. Business blogging is a highly effective marketing strategy businesses that blog generate 67... per cent more leads than those who dont; 434 per cent more indexed pages, and 97 per cent more indexed links all of which improve Google ranking. Small to mid-sized businesses that blog experience 126 per cent more lead growth than those that dont. Blogging also makes other marketing channels, such as email and social media, far easier and more effective. If business has been slow, you want your website to rank better on Google, and you need more leads, heres how to turn your blog into an effective lead-generating machine. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/blogging-more-leads/

17.01.2022 Just 3 spots left! We will sell out. Dont wait if youre keen.

17.01.2022 Good morning! Im going to learn to play this song. Just putting it here, for accountability. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq3sdF0YXkM

15.01.2022 Women in business are ripped off. First, were told we can do it all and have it all #bossbabe #girlboss We add build an empire to an already-overflowing list. We still do the majority of housework and childcare which has been exacerbated during Covid. We are told that working from home isnt running a real business, despite the fact that this is the only possibility for so many of us with young children, health issues, or other competing priorities. We arent treated seri...ously, no matter how much money we make, if we admit to not having an office outside the home, because thats not what real businesses look like. And when we go looking for help and advice with money management, we find a stinking pile of shit: were told that if were not earning enough, its because we dont believe in ourselves. Were told that real entrepreneurs risk everything and because women dont tend to risk so much or invest as much (often because we have limited access to capital), it means were just not entrepreneurial. Were covertly taught that its because were too ambitious and we should be grateful and content being at home with our children and spending our money on our family. Were taught feminine business traits and masculine business traits and that we need to wear a flower crown if were to attract abundance. Were told that ambitious women are likely barren or less desirable. Were taught that we should use emotional freedom technique, (tapping on different parts of our body), affirmations, position thinking and vision boards to magnetise abundance to us. No joke. This is serious advice, delivered with a straight face, to business women, by business women. What arent we taught? -- How to advocate for our needs -- How to ask for what we want -- How to negotiate -- How to price and position our services for profit -- How to delegate and manage effectively -- How to build a network of referral partners -- How to create assets and how to leverage these -- How to build our professional reputations as a bankable asset There are countless practical skills, soft skills, attitudinal changes needed to build a great business around a great life. Its all possible, once you start to recognise the propaganda for what it is, drop the shame, and start hustling. Hustling is not a dirty word. (Thats another lie sold by people who are excellent at hustling.)

15.01.2022 Maybe youll believe it if Chris Hemsworth tells you!

14.01.2022 What do you spend your time doing? What you give your time and focus to is what you value. In business, must of this needs to be money-making and future-focused. If you find that admin is sucking your life force, ask yourself, do I really value admin? When you pitch, you must follow up. The gold is in the follow up. Following up shows enthusiasm, which is good, right? People are busy, overwhelmed and distracted. Your pitch may have been super-short. They need more informati...on, they likely have questions, and no doubt, concerns. When you follow up, youre taking initiative and asking them for the next step in the process. You look confident. You look serious. You arent a flakey, fly-by-night person, youre serious and enthusiastic and confident. All good things, right? Part-and-parcel of pitching, of acting despite your fear, of being bold in business, is building your resilience. You build your resilience as you build your business. Not through self-deprivation, but through asking for - and receiving - more support. By celebrating, marking progress, practicing joy, and having time away from your business. Take your self-care seriously. Grow your resilience and youll grow your business.

12.01.2022 I can't stop smiling at this. Older women are a force to be reckoned with. Watch out. We're coming for you.

12.01.2022 Have a brilliant Monday! (But only if you want to.)

10.01.2022 The future is here, today. We make reality in any moment. When were self-employed, we own the means of production. The factory has been dismantled. By earning a thriving living from our own sweat and smarts, we have choices. We can move out of the city. We can reinvent country towns. We can employ people and make the future their everyday reality, too. It takes time to move out of the past. And the present inherits the past, in all its inefficient, out-of-date, harmful ways.... Know that you have more power and more control than you likely appreciate. And start living like you do.

10.01.2022 Ive decided to opt-out of the global recession. Ive considered it, and Im not participating. Im happy to report that Im not alone and that, so far, its going well. 08.01.2022 If youre self-employed, you MUST treat your attitude as a business asset. Yes of course, youll have shit days. Youll feel dreadful. Youll have setbacks and disappointments. But you MUST learn how to lovingly pick yourself up and keep going. Because your attitude, perspectives and beliefs are crucial to your business.

08.01.2022 I started blogging for my business in January 2010 and have blogged every month ever since. I only publish 1-2 new blogs a month, but its been effort well spent. My blog brings me a steady stream of inquiries and leads. It helps my website to rank for keyphrases such as "small business expert" (which is how the New Daily found me) and "digital trainer" (which is how Daikin air conditioning found me). Your business blog acts as your sales team, marketing team and customer s...ervice team rolled into one. Your blog is also your R&D department, to help you test and try out new ideas and service offerings. And it does all this with very little requirement from you - 1-2 blogs per month isnt arduous, especially when you schedule in regular creativity dates where you can pre-prepare months of blogs in advance. This is what Im teaching in my course next week. And its subject of my latest blog too. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/blogging-more-leads/

07.01.2022 10 years ago, I used to post my intention of running courses here. I'd tell my Facebook fans I was going to Byron, or Brisbane or Adelaide, and that was sufficient to put a rocket up my arse to make it happen (this was the olden days of Facebook, when pages had great reach). Nowadays, my whole life is set up around accountability. Because otherwise? I'm easily distracted. I love to enjoy myself. I can find plenty of stuff to fill the time, and get no closer to the big goals t...hat I've set for myself. In fact, I'm so keen on accountability that I create a membership, Momentum, specifically for this purpose. If you have big things you'd like to achieve, but time has a habit of moving quickly, and you're busy, but no closer than you were at the beginning of the year, to doing those big things you told yourself you wanted to do, then this is for you. Check out the link in the first comment, but don't dally, as we're getting together for 3hours online this Friday.

07.01.2022 Hey non-writer, I see you. You think you cant write. And yet you write every day. You might secretly want to write out loud, but dont think youre good enough to expose your writing to the harsh light of the public. But writing helps you think. It quietens the conversations in your head. It untangles arguments and lines of inquiry. Writing strengthens your arguments because it invites feedback and debate. ... Writing helps take nebulous thoughts and gives them definition. It takes abstract dreams and turns these into concrete things. Writing enables you to create possibilities and write the future into reality. Grammar and spelling and vocabulary is wonderful. But its decoration. If you have ideas, you can write. If your thoughts keep you up at night, you need to exorcise them onto paper. Writing makes you better at thinking. And I can show you how to make it really easy and quick by writing the scaffolding first, then colouring in the details. Writing builds bridges between people and turns high hopes into actions. This is why I love it. https://hustleandheart.com.au/business-blogging

05.01.2022 Are you doing my Lifes a Pitch challenge? Have you pitched yet? Have you introduced yourself to a stranger? Have you paid someone a compliment? Pitching brings up so many fears. Of not being good enough. Of being seen as pushy, or desperate. Of feeling terribly self-conscious or inadequate. Resist. Dont believe everything you think. These thoughts are not true. They are just your ego attempting to help you avoid discomfort.... Send the damn pitch already!

05.01.2022 When I was young(er), I had piano lessons. Then my younger sister started. And slowly, I stopped enjoying piano and started worrying that she was going to get better than me. So I quit piano. Of course, at the time I didnt see this. I didnt admit it to myself. Its taken me some years to notice my pattern. Perhaps you do this too? For DECADES, I didnt compete and I didnt join because then I didnt risk failing. I didnt do so many things because I didnt want to ruin the idea of it, I didnt want to look like a fool, and I didnt want to fail. Dont fall so in love with your dreams that you dont want to ruin them by actually making them come true. Because its way more satisfying to contribute your sweat, smarts and tears towards creating something remarkable.

05.01.2022 Why most businesses dont grow

04.01.2022 Do you have an online course brewing? The online learning market worldwide is forecast to surpass 243 billion US dollars by 2022. Ive supported dozens of my clients in both my program and membership, whove moved their entire face-to-face services onto the internet during Covid. ... Its been a steep learning curve of video creation, Zoom-ing and Loom-ing, website edits, and countless other adventures. Having taken this significant step, the next one is to take live teachings and convert them into e-courses and programs. For small business owners and sole traders, online courses allows us to leverage ourselves and our expertise. Especially in a country with the geographical challenges of Australia, online learning makes sense, while the tools and technologies used to create, sell and run online courses are getting cheaper by the day. Although Ive been selling e-courses since 2012, it has NOT been smooth sailing. And while the majority of my income now comes from my online program, online membership and online business coaching, its been a steep learning curve and Ive made countless side-tracks, missteps and had total flops. So I sat down with four digital course experts to help make the process of launching your first e-course more straightforward, more profitable and ultimately, more satisfying: Im pleased to introduce you to the wise words and ways of Melanie Miller of Profit Lovers, Ellissa Jayne of Flourish Online, Troy Dean of WP Elevation, and instructional designer and curriculum developer, Maria Doyle - Create Real Change. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/first-online-course/

04.01.2022 That time I taught a social media strategy masterclass for @meltwater clients. Im 41, which makes me about 15 years older than most social media trainers, and with a background in PR, its fair to say I see social media differently. You see, I teach influence. Which includes social media and blogging, but also publicity and Pr, strategic networking and SEO. These things go together. Journalists google. And find your site because you know SEO and have been blogging ...strategically. As you build relationships, you create opportunities and links back to your site. As youre on social media, youre also networking, building relationships (beyond the socials), testing messages, and growing your email list. These things arent separate. They work together, and they build on each other. When youre building your reputation and creating influence, youre attracting people to you, rather than interrupting people with something theyre not interested in. Your reputation is a bankable asset, especially now. Start today. See more

02.01.2022 Personal training helps my business in innumerable ways. Im well aware of how lucky I am to be able to afford a personal trainer, and the price I pay helps ensure that I turn up, take it seriously, and work as hard as possible. Training has helped me with discipline, commitment and follow through. Personal training led me to starting my Momentum membership, which aims to be like a trainer for your business, using accountability, positive peer pressure, and unashamed support,... encouragement and celebration to help business owners to put their sales and marketing in top spot. Watch me dance to Im too sexy in my gym, like a total doofus, filmed by my eldest daughter:- https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/personal-training-coachi/

02.01.2022 Your websites Google ranking either means youre found . or youre languishing on the second, fourth, or ninth page of search results. Your business blog is a key way to increase your websites Google ranking. Writing strategic, informative and memorable business blogs can do wonders for improving your websites Google ranking. Indeed, its one of the biggest reasons why participants come to my Blogging for Business courses. Its not enough to have a great-looking website. ...And those About and Services pages that you slaved so long over, ensuring every word was exactly right? That all counts for naught if nobodys reading, right? Blogging for business is a great way to attract people to your site and to demonstrate your expertise, share your knowledge, answer your FAQs, and reveal a little of your particular approach, opinion and personality. But how do you do it right? How do you avoid the snore-worthy filler content and ensure your business blogging efforts are translating, not only in improving your Google ranking but also with new people through the door? How can you improve your website ranking, while also appealing to your (very human) clients and prospects? https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/blogging-seo/

01.01.2022 One of the biggest misunderstandings about inspiration: you have to go for it, not wait for it.

01.01.2022 I see a lot of over-complication in business. People who are working hard to make too little. Its tiring for them, I guess, because its tiring for me to watch. I dont know exactly what you want most from your business, but heres what I want: I want to increase my profit a little more every year while working a little fewer hours. I want simple systems that bring (fairly) predictable results. I dont want to start things that I dont have the bandwidth to continue. I want ...to travel regularly and not have to start my marketing and hustling over again when I return. I want to keep editing what I offer, so that its as relevant, useful and valuable to business owners like you as possible. I want to derive joy, creative satisfaction and (that word again) relevance from my work, while avoiding placing too high a burden of expectation on it. It doesnt need to satisfy every creative itch I have. If youre feeling overwhelmed with work; if technology and processes seem overly complicated; if you know youre working too many hours; and if youre keen to earn more (far more?) than what you currently are, Ive got seven simple things to focus on next year, to make it your best in business yet. https://www.hustleandheart.com.au/business-easy-profitable/
