About Us The CEDAR Centre is a Registered Training Organisation and has been delivering high quality Vocational Education services for over 40 years. We pride ourselves on our diverse community engagement. This position helps to extend the resources of the CEDAR Centre to better assist and direct the needs of our Staff and Students. The CEDAR Centre Toowoomba, requires people to undertake tutoring positions for a very diverse and broad range of students. About the Role We are looking for individuals aged 18 years of age or over who hold permanent Australian residency, has a good level of written and spoken English and an ability to provide language and literacy support to students where English is a second language, as well as students with poor language, literacy and numeracy skills. Duties may include: Working one on with students with low level numeracy and literacy skills in a class environment. Tutoring students individually or in small groups to develop literacy, numeracy, computer and study skills Supporting students in the completion of assessments Communicating with the Coordinator on sessions delivered including time, activity and outcomes. Establish the needs of your learner and ensure that you are aware when and if these needs change. Accept the philosophy and code of practice of the Cedar Centre Previous tutor experience and or Teaching qualifications desirable but not mandatory. About You Experience and/or interest in Adult Education Hold or be working towards relevant qualifications (desirable). Understanding of culturally and linguistically diverse communities. An understanding of and empathy with people from diverse cultural backgrounds A non-judgemental attitude Ability to work independently You must be available to volunteer for one or two days a week for a minimum of 3 hours. You must be willing to commit to a minimum of 3 months of volunteering You can provide us with a referee who is not a relative and can confirm your experience. You understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality. CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services and SI...T20316 Certificate II in Hospitality These course are fully funded and are offered to eligible participants, along side considerable practical experience. Participants will gain skills while working on the Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival, Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers parade and our own Wear to Work Project among other smaller projects. Our goal is help you gain skills and employment in the community sector, and support you to maintain that employment. Currently intake one participants have completed their first four units and are working with the coordinator to secure placements. Intake two participants will join in with Workplace Health and Safety and continue on with the group. This training is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. To celebrate this, the CEDAR Centre is hosting a pizza lunch to recognize and celebrate our students in their learning journey.... You are all invited to join us in this celebration taking place at the CEDAR Centre at 12 midday 1.00 pm Thursday 7 September 2017 57 Brook St North Toowoomba It is a $5 donation which includes pizza and drinks. We invite all of you to bring along your music - whether it be CD, USB, guitar, drum or tambourine. The theme for this years event is : Take the leap: rediscover learning. We would like to celebrate our learning journeys by coming together and sharing in food, stories and music!
