06.01.2022 Swimming and ear infections Its that time of year when lessons are in full swing and unfortunately for some children that will mean having to deal with ear infections. So I hope to share with you some very useful information on ear infections and how they can be prevented.... WHAT CAUSES THEM: Typically water gets trapped in the ear and with the body temperature warms and creates the perfect breading ground for bacteria (warm and wet). Swimming on consecutive days means the ear canal doesnt have time to dry and this exacerbates the problem. HOW CAN WE PREVENT THEM: 1) keep dry - the best way to do this is through the use of ear plugs combined with a product such as the ear bands or earbadit which keeps the ear plugs in place and acts as a secondary barrier (Im forever pulling earplugs out of my pool cleaner which means they are not staying in place). 2) use a drying agent: one product I highly recommend is aqua ear. It can be purchased from the pharmacy for about $8 and it is an alcohol based ear drop. You place a couple of drops in each ear after swimming and the alcohol solution dries that water up and is also antibacterial. Both these measures are preventive and if used correctly means no more having to deal with ear infections during swimming lessons

03.01.2022 Swimming lessons will still be on today. We have electricity. Just be mindful there is some wind chill so we recommend not allowing the children to swim prior to the class otherwise that may get cold
