24.01.2022 Broomball Australia has announced that the 2020 nationals has been cancelled due to advice received outlining all the latest information regarding the Covid 19 virus currently across the globe and in particular latest developments within Australia. The Federal Government has imposed a 14 day quarantine period for all persons entering the country. Australians at home are still free to travel around the country however the risk to all planning to travel to the 2020 Nationals w...as no longer acceptable to the Broomball Australia Board and member associations and the sad decision to cancel was agreed to earlier today (Mar 16th) All Member Associations are in the process of advising the teams and players and a post can be found on the Broomball Australia social media pages as well. Possible alternate dates will be looked at with discussions and any advice released when it becomes available. The IFBA Board are also closely monitoring the situation planning a conference call at the end of the week to discuss the issue in relation to the 2020 World Broomball Championships later in the year. .

24.01.2022 Finally after several months of hibernation the Ice Arena is finally to reopen. Monday July 6th sees the doors open to the public where allowance for up to 1000 persons within the facility is allowed under the Covid-19 requirements issued by the South Australian Government. Of course the question is when is Broomball back. The BASA Board have a meeting Monday July 6th where that among other topics will be discussed. So the answer is soon - very soon. The Board will address a...ny social distancing or special requirements which shall be posted and distributed well before we step on to the ice. Teams should now be thinking or organising and getting ready.

22.01.2022 Our mixed Nationals team has made it into the Grand Final undefeated. Tune in at 3.30pm Adelaide time today to watch it live... Go Sharks

19.01.2022 Hey Aussie Broomballers, Well it is only a short 9 months away from another worlds !! This time in Kingston, Canada. These regional worlds are amazing, the wh...ole city gets behind the event and the vibe in the town is awesome. This years worlds is in arguably the hottest spot in the world for Broomball. The competition in all divisions will be great. In Ontario, close to the USA and not too far for our European friends to come across. Should be an amazing worlds. https://www.2020worldbroomballchampionships.com/ https://www.cityofkingston.ca/ https://www.visitkingston.ca/ So it is time for me to start collecting interest:- If you know you are definitely going then sign up 100%.. if you haven't been to a worlds before... it will be the trip of a lifetime... until your next one !! The broomball is amazing.. but there is way more to a worlds trip than just the broomball. Meeting people from all round the world with the same obsession as you, swapping jerseys and apparel, team bonding and events. Things like last worlds we got to go down onto the ice at the home rink of the Minnesota Wild then went to the NHL game that night, also went to the Timberwolves NBA basketball game. In Japan a group of players got to go to a Japanese school and talk all things Australia to the kids. If you aren't 100% but thinking of going then you should, get off that fence.. but let me know you are keen and what % likelihood, clearly I'm not going to hold you to it this far out, but will need a definite sign up by April 2020(with cash). Please email me your interest - [email protected] (with the division you would like to play) What: 2020 World Broomball Championships When: Tournament 2nd Nov - 7th Nov (Aussie team arrives earlier roughly Thursday 29th Oct for a big bonding session, then training on Friday) Where: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Teams: Men's, Women's, Mixed and Men's Masters & potentially for first time Women's Masters ** + (potentially 2nd men's or mixed) ** Women's masters is a division the organisers are hoping to get off the ground, if we can get 8-10 ladies I have word from a Kingston local they can top us up with Candians, be a great experience for our ladies to play with that many Canadians. Same rules as the mens, 40 at the tournament. COMMITMENT: If you commit to go you will definitely be playing. Unfortunately for logistically reasons we can not take conditional nominations. (eg. I'll go if I make the men's 1 team) . Your nomination and commitment is to the Aussie team. Selection is done much later and everything needs to be in place before then. If you nominate to go, you will be on a team and part of the Australian team. Obviously we will look at preferences and place where we can but again your commitment is to the Australian team (and that is all teams.) The best way to stake your claim for the higher teams is to come to Nationals and perform well there. It is hard for the selection team to place you in a higher team if you aren't there. Looking forward to your nomination (email me) to join me in Canada. Saxon. Costs (rough. based on previous years): Airfares :- $1100-2500 (need to hunt for bargains) Accommodation :- (10 Nights $60 to $80 per night twin share) - $600-$800 Registration (Including Banquet) :- $200 Training/Practice Games :- $75ish Aussie Gear :- Jerseys - 2 x $60 = $120 (probably want couple extra for swapping) Pants - $60 Polo's - $45 Hoodie - $65 Souvenirs - $60 (pins, team gifts etc.) Training Ball - $25 (special Aussie Dingoes Ball) That's the bare min to buy.. there are all sort of other things you can get .. alternate polo's, different hoodies, jackets, beanies, caps, bags, key rings, pens, coasters, track suit pants, aussie dingoes custom broomball stick etc.. it is all very cool stuff. Payment Plan :- Seems like a fair load of cash (and it is), but payments are spread out. First up is airfares, anywhere up to a year out (or day of flight if you are Jeff Ferrara). An initial rego/gear payment will be due in April. Final gear payments June. Then just accommodation and spending money once there.

17.01.2022 From the RIC... It has been drawn to my attention that there have been a few incidents in recent weeks involving goal keepers and attacking players where the attacker may have in their zest to score a goal or win the ball given cause to have a few extra goes at the ball even after it has left the area and made contact with the goalie. To offer some clarification to all and give all those who pull on the stripes a pointer to how to manage the situation the best place will alw...ays be the IFBA rule book First up we look at the Goalie and the protection they are accorded. Goal Keeper Privilege a) The goaltenders have special privileges inside or in contact with their reserved zone. When a goaltender steps out of the goal crease, they are considered as another player BUT may not cross centre ice. Sanction: Minor Penalty b) The goaltender may use pieces of equipment inherent to their function. And the penalties that are applied to ALL including Goalies if they step outside the bounds of the rules starting with what constitutes a Slashing call.. RULE 75 SLASHING Definition: The act of hitting an opponent or their broom with one's own broom, held in one or both hands, and with the intent of hampering their progress. Sanction: Minor penalty 1st Specification: If this gesture is made with force or is made against the goaltender inside the goal crease. Sanction: Major penalty NOTE: No preference shall be shown towards a goaltender involved in an exchange of blows with an opponent. 2nd Specification: If, in slashing, a player injures an opponent. Sanction: Major penalty Finally there is a myriad of penalties that can be assessed by all officials when attackers and Goalies meet. Hitting from behind, Roughing, Cross Checking, Kneeing or Elbowing, Intimidating an opponent, Spearing or Butt ending, any attempt to injure, Body checking All of these can be applied depending on what happens. Of course the Goalie will stay in net unless a Major penalty is given to them for their actions As always any decision has to be on what is seen and getting to the goal line is paramount for this to happen. Any decision must also be absolute and no second guessing - either it is or it is not and stand by that decision... Do not be swayed by any verbal suggestions from players including goalies. Your decision is final and the game continues. Together we can address issues if they need that attention. As always for more information contact me directly

16.01.2022 Hi All, As most of you have seen, indoor sporting venues have been forced to close. From today under government direction we find all ice rinks shut. This means all Broomball is suspended immediately. We will resume once the IceArenA can open it's doors again, and we will keep you informed.... In regards to fees, the committee will discuss with regards to the payments of the last 3 games of Mens and Womens that have been cancelled, and let members know once we have an outcome. Please stay safe, be smart, practice social distancing, isolate and be clean. But ensure you stay connected, and do not be alone during this time. Everyone is only a message or call away. Happy to have a cider through face time! Thank you for your continued support of Broomball in SA, and we will see each other out on the ice soon! Please reach out if you have any questions. 04.01.2022 Local Broomball is still going ahead, but we will be following Health SA updates and keep members informed. No one will be able to borrow the loan gear unless they bring wipes to clean it before and after use. We are also implementing the following: Local level Broomball... Broomball Australia recommends all members (players, team staff, spectators) of broomball associations and leagues implement (at a minimum) the below set of actions for upcoming training sessions and matches: Replace handshaking at the start and conclusion of games with (for example) simply tapping sticks on the ground, fist pump with gloves on. Use labelled water bottles. These must be strictly single person use. Avoid use of communal water bottles. Mouth-guards should be washed after each game, followed by cleaning of hands. Continue to cover nose and mouth with tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing. Keep 1.5m distance from anyone that is coughing or sneezing. Use alcohol-based hand wash where available All players and officials should wash their hands with soap and water and dry with paper towel prior to and after games. Gloves should be worn when attending to players with injuries especially against blood exposure but also to prevent contact with mouth-guards. Keep your kit together to stop cross contamination with garments and other pieces of protective gear (ie don’t share gloves, jerseys, elbow or knee guards and in particular helmets. Any member with flu-like symptoms should self-exclude from playing, training and spectating at the first sign of the symptoms and seek medical advice. Further advice on the Coronavirus COVID-19 can be found from the following recommended sources: Australian Government Department of Health (health.gov.au) or for general advice regarding COVID-19, call the Australian Government’s Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080 All members of the broomball community should note that this is an evolving situation and advice could change at any time. Broomball Australia will endeavour to update the broomball community as it is relevant.
