10.01.2022 ****HEAT STROKE WARNING**** Hi all, we have had an unusual number of dogs presenting to the clinic with heat stroke in the past week. Even a short walk on the ...beach or throwing the ball for 15 minutes in this weather can lead to overheating. Signs include extremely heavy panting, dark red mucous membranes, wobbling/ataxia, collapse, diarrhoea and vomiting. If you suspect your pet has gotten over-heated, instigate active cooling measures immediately - drench the dog with water and get into the air conditioning under a fan on high. Avoid ice or freezing cold water. Some pets require IV fluids and intensive care. We are on call 24/7 should you require assistance in the event of an veterinary emergency. See more
