08.01.2022 WA’s Property Market Boom The McGowan Government's Building Bonus, First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) and Keystart incentives are driving a surge in Western Australi...a's property market and supporting thousands of jobs for Western Australians. First home owners in particular are flocking to the property market to take advantage of the incentives, supporting more than 65,000 Western Australian jobs in the property and construction sectors. Since the $20,000 Building Bonus grants were announced as part of the WA Recovery Plan, more than 2,400 applications have been received. Many more applications are expected in the coming months, with a pipeline of work expected to support industry activity into 2022. The Building Bonus program has resulted in more than three times the number of land sales in the June to October period compared to the same period last year. Land sales peaked to around 500 sales per week shortly after the announcement of the Building Bonus. Although sales have come off that peak, they remain elevated relative to 2019 levels. Peak sales were 10 times the average weekly land sales over 2019. Building approvals increased by 43 per cent in September 2020, following a 34 per cent increase in August. By way of comparison, building approvals nationally increased by 15.4 per cent in September. Compared to September 2019, building approvals in WA were 74 per cent higher in September 2020, which is the strongest outcome anywhere in Australia, and the fastest rate of growth since May 2013. The significant increase in building activity has made it difficult for people to meet the Commonwealth's restrictive three-month commencement period for the $25,000 HomeBuilder grant. As a result, the Commissioner of State Revenue has used her discretionary power to extend the commencement period to six months from date of contract for all HomeBuilder applicants. Loans for established homes have also increased in recent months. There were more than 2,700 home loans for established dwellings in September, the highest number in any month since March 2015. The Building Bonus program has created a surge in demand for FHOG and Keystart. FHOG applications in October were up 24.9 per cent to 1,338, the highest monthly level of applications for new dwellings since late 2009. Applications also rose by 35.9 per cent in annual average terms to October, the fastest rate of annual growth since January 2014. Keystart loan applications have also grown by 49.1 per cent in the 12 months to October 2020, the fastest rate of annual growth since early 2014. Applications for Keystart loans in October 2020 were nearly twice the average 2019 monthly level. Applications reached a multi-decade peak of 763 in July 2020. 06.01.2022 BUSIEST MONTH ON RECORD FOR RFDS The Royal Flying Doctor Service has recorded its busiest ever month in Western Australia. In July, RFDS pilots flew an aver...age of 27 people a day to medical services and hospitals all around the state. In the Pilbara, 156 patients were picked up from around the region, and 153 people were also flown around the Kimberley. Pilots racked up just over 2000 hours in the air over the 30 day period and thanked regional WA for their ongoing support of the service.

02.01.2022 This morning I can now announce our next cautious and safe step as part of WA's controlled interstate border. Subject to no further outbreaks occurring and base...d on updated Chief Health Officer advice, Victoria and New South Wales will be classified as 'very low risk' states from 12.01am, Tuesday, December 8. The transition to the new category can occur, following a review by our Chief Health Officer after Victoria surpassed 28 days of no community cases and New South Wales is due to reach that milestone this Friday. As a result, WA's controlled interstate border will be safely adjusted, with travel from Victoria and New South Wales to be permitted into WA with the following conditions: - all Perth Airport arrivals to undergo a health screening and temperature test on arrival - travellers to be prepared to take a COVID-19 test at the airport COVID clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician (voluntary asymptomatic testing available for all airport arrivals) - completion of a G2G Pass declaration, stipulating they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions the traveller has been in over the previous 14 days - all travellers to receive a SMS health check reminder one week into their stay in WA - all land arrivals to be met at the border checkpoint, for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked. Other jurisdictions currently in the ‘very low risk’ category include the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The significantly improved situation in Victoria and New South Wales has been fantastic news for all Australians, and now it means that we can take this cautious next step. However, at this stage, South Australia will remain classified as a ‘medium risk’ jurisdiction. This classification will be reviewed again by December 11. Travel from South Australia remains prohibited unless travellers meet strict exemption criteria. Exempt travellers must also self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Western Australia. Please note that those conditions apply to anyone who has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This also includes transit through South Australia, via road or air. Like always, we’re continuing to follow our State’s expert health advice. Our border controls have worked and allowed us to stay safe and return to a new normal throughout this pandemic, to get our economy going and people back in work. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this extremely difficult time. I know it's been a long wait, and I'm so glad we can now safely allow more of our friends and family over east to travel into WA.
