24.01.2022 Shire rangers are working with Department of Fisheries and DBCA staff to close Broome's beaches after a shark attack north of the rocks this morning. North of the rocks, Cable Beach and Gantheuame Beach are all being closed currently. People are urged to stay out of the water and not travel to the beaches.... St John's Ambulance are on the scene.

24.01.2022 Recently for Halloween, the Broome Public Library hosted students from the Sun Piano Violin school for their very special Emotions of Halloween recital. The school recently expressed their thanks to the library with a lovely card and flowers made by the students.

19.01.2022 Main Roads Western Australia are starting an upgrade to the intersections between Port Drive, Decastilla Street and Archer Street today. The project is expected to be completed by October, with safety to be increased by widening the turning radius of the intersections. Both Archer and Decastilla Streets will remain accessible during the works but traffic management processes will be in place.

16.01.2022 Water Corporation has begun preliminary work on an upgrade of the Broome North Wastewater Treatment Plant, enabling it to treat all of Broomes wastewater. This will cater for the towns long-term population growth and allow the closure of Broome South Wastewater Treatment Plant by December 2022. Geotechnical survey work has commenced along the route of a pipeline that will transfer wastewater to the Broome North plant. ... This is low-impact work but the community may notice an increased activity in the area. The work area is within the road reserves of Clementson Street, Dora Street, Robert Street, Forrest Street, Hopton Street, Robinson Street, Guy Street, Hamersley Street, Weld Street, Napier Terrace, Bagot Street, Old Broome Road, Broome Road, Wattyl Drive, and within the pipeline easement heading east to the plant. Construction is due to start early next year, subject to regulatory approvals.

11.01.2022 With Shinju Matsuri done and dusted for another year, the shipping container at the Festival Hub at Town Beach is scheduled to be removed tomorrow. 07.01.2022 Roadworks next week The Shire of Broome and a contractor will be carrying out maintenance sealing works on Frederick Street on Monday. This will take place between the Hamersley and Herbert Street turnoffs, with only one lane affected at a time.... 06.01.2022 It is likely that there will be an increase in the number of the mosquito Aedes vigilax, commonly called a saltmarsh mosquito, following the high tide on the 16 November and the rainfall on the 23 November. Environmental Health Officers from the Shire would like to advise the community to take extra precautions to protect against mosquitos this weekend. If the westerly winds keep up, mosquitos will hopefully be kept away from the town. ... Mosquitos often find shelter around dense plants and shaded areas. Please take care this weekend especially if you are getting into the garden, heading out fishing, or just getting outside to enjoy the start of the wet season. Cover up with repellent and long loose-fitting clothing, and get rid of anything that may be holding water around your home.
