25.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DETENTION CENTRE Hi everyone! Sam and I had the privilege of going out to Banksia Hill detention centre today. We shared our life stories with all the residents in 5 separate presentations over the course of the day. ... It was so good to share not only our testimomies, but also about the content of our program to both residents and staff. The lads paid attention to Sam and I with both respect and intigue. We talked openly about the paths we had taken in our lives and the consequences that followed as a result of our choices. The message behind our stories was plain and simple! "YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET IT WRONG TO GET IT RIGHT" And that your past does not have to define your future! We hope to see you all again later on in the year! Thanks to all residents and staff that were involved today to make this happen.
25.01.2022 Big program GOOD AND BAD THINGS FOR THE MIND Hey guys ... The boys program went really well today. We started by having a discussion on different trainings splits and unpacked why we structure workouts a certain way. We then got stuck into a well planned arm session! A good mix of exercises tailored towards more intermediate lifters. Todays topic of discussion was how what we watch has a major influence on our lives. We brainstormed together about how we can better spend our time by engaging in things that can improve our wellbeing. Looking forward to next week!
25.01.2022 ARMS TRAINING DAY Hi everyone, Arms training take 2 at the Communicare Academy this afternoon. Sam and I decided to repeat last weeks session so that the lads and girls who missed out could have a chance to catch up. They all trained fantastically well. I love their committment and willingness to learn. It is very encouraging for Sam and I to see. ... We stepped up the intensity and helped them to push their limits. This is a valuable tool when applied to other areas in life as well. Many of the attributes they will attain through training will be valuable to them when translated to other aspects of thier lives. PERSEVERANCE, CONSISTENCY & DISCIPLINE are but a few of the many traits that can be learned and sharpened through the platform of weight training. After training Sam delivered another excellent and relatable talk on ALCOHOL and its addictive nature. He laid out some great points to act as a warning to the students. One being that just because it is socially acceptable doesn't make it OK! It can get out of hand quite quickly and because of its social acceptance we can be in denial of just how much it has a hold on us. It is a privilege to be able to share from our mistakes and use our lives as a real life warning. As we endeavour to help them make right choices as they face all of lifes challenges. Well done once again
24.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DC Hi everyone! Training was awesome with the lads at Banksia today. We trained Chest & Back again, putting into practice what they learned previously. I stepped up the intensity from last time with more reps and a bit more weight. The lads put in a top effort. I think they were quietly happy to hear me tell them to finish up prior to our group chat, as they were all starting to look pretty tired! ... MENTORING DRUG ADDICTION - THE COMPANY WE KEEP! Our topic of drug addiction continued today with the company we keep. We discussed how the influences around us shape and fashion our thoughts and actions. Namely the people we hang around. We need to choose wisely who we hang out with. If the company we keep are doing all the things we are trying to get away from, then sooner or later we are gonna get sucked into doing what we shouldn't. I used examples from my past as my own stories have great power because they are so relatable. This prompted the lads to open up about some of the wrong choices they have made based upon the influences of others in their lives. Changing your life is hard, with many hard choices and decisions to make. This is an integral area to look at and address if an individual is to have victory over breaking the cycle of addiction! Great session today fellas. I am proud and privileged to mentor you all and speak into your lives. What an honour! Well done
23.01.2022 Big program GOOD AND BAD THINGS FOR THE MIND Hey guys ... The girls program went really well today. The smaller class offered greater one-on-one work. We started off by having a discussion on different trainings splits and unpacked a great variety of workouts to do during the week ie; HIIT, circuit training and strength training. We then got stuck into a ten-station circuit! A good variety of exercises designed to raise the heart rate and improve fitness. Similarly to the boys program, we spoke about Netflix and binge watching, and how it doesnt add anything beneficial to our lives. We brainstormed together about how we can better spend our time by engaging in things that can improve our wellbeing. Looking forward to next week!

22.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DC KICKING GOALS! Hi everyone, ... Today was the last day of training and mentoring at Banksia for the year. I had the honour and privilege of being asked to do an additional 6 sessions to the BIG Program. They ran over the course of the last two days to assist with the running of the centre's events for the Christmas period. I had a session with the girls for the first time which went really well and also many of the other residents who are not usually in my 10 week BIG Program. The new residents I saw over the last two days were so engaged with the sharing of my life's story / testimony. They all loved the training and so many of them are keen to be involved in the program next year. It's wonderful to witness such positivity from all involved, including the staff! Banksia has also given the go ahead for the BIG Program to continue running at the centre next year. They have said first hand how much they value the work that is being done with the lads and want to build on our working relationship into the future. C'mon!!! What a wonderful way to wrap up the BIG Programs last working day of the year. It has been a growing year for the program and it is really starting to gain some traction within the schools and institutions alike. I so look forward to what next year has to hold for the BIG Program. Exciting times ahead! Until next year, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and joy filled New Year!
22.01.2022 BIG PROGRAM. LEGS DAY Hi guys! Today we crunched out some great leg training with the lads at the Communicare Academy in Kenwick. All the major leg exercises were involved, like the Squats on both the free bar and smith machine, dumbell lunges, lying leg curls etc... It was a comprehensive workout moving from thigh to hamstring exercises. Needless to say the lads will be sore tomorrow. Fantastic form and committment was demonstrated by all! ... Our next topic of Drug & Alcohol addiction was started today for the second half of the term. I shared from my experiences of drug use in my teenage years to make the discussion relatable to them. The boys shared some stories and experiences of their own which was fantastic that they felt comfortable enough to share. Lets hope that by educating them through mine and Sam's own experience that they dont make the same mistakes we did. You don't have to get it wrong to get it right! 21.01.2022 STRENGTH TRAINING DAY! Hi everyone! Both the lads and ladies were taken through similar strength training exercises yesterday at the Communicare Academy. These included the Squat, Deadlift, Military press and a few other exercises just for good measure. Our aim is to build overall strength by incorporating the basic foundation strength building exercises. ... It just so happens that these are the hardest lifts both physically and mentally. Like most things in life, overcoming the biggest challenges are often the most rewarding too. Afterwards we discussed the necessary components to achieve a goal. 1. First you must cleary define your goal in order to give you direction and a destination point. 2. Make a deadline / date upon which to achieve this goal. This will create a sense of urgency and will be a motivational tool. 3. Make a plan, in other words what will i need to involve (what do i have to do) to make this goal a reality. Doing life with purpose and direction is what Sam and I are aiming to instill into these young men and women. We're using weight training as a platform to exercise, practice and hone these skills. 20.01.2022 Hi guys! Chest and Back training was on the agenda today at the Communicare Academy. We super setted between the two muscle groups with a number of effective exercises. All the lads showed exceptional form, not only with the execution of their techniques, but also with the intensity and enthusiasm towards their training. Its so great to see them becoming a great team of hard working and committed young men. We chatted about social media afterwards and Sam and i shared about... the damaging effect of its content. Especially if we look at too much of the wrong information. Such as unrealistic self imagery and wishing we had what other people have. Whether it be possesions, lifestyles or social circles. Or simply just the addiction of spending countless hours of unproductive time looking at the screen. Lets use our time wisely and lets be mindful about what we nourish our spirits with. 20.01.2022 ARMS TRAINING DAY! Hi everyone! Sam and I were back at the Communicare Academy yesterday afternoon. The lads were due for an arm session, which seems to be a common favourite! We chose 6 different exercises. 3 exercises for biceps and 3 exercises for triceps. The lads put in a top effort as usual and they all enjoyed the challenge of being pushed by Sam and I. ... We then sat down with the lads and defined some individual training goals for the future. I believe that training with a goal in mind will give their training more purpose and direction. Not to mention a great sense of accomplishment once they have achieved it. We will continue next week in helping them to design an action plan of how to go about achieving their goals. Good preparation makes for good results! Well done lads
20.01.2022 Hi guys! The BIG Program was back at the Communicare Academy today. Awesome day of training with the lads. We did a shoulder and core workout involving the abs and lower back. There were a total of 8 exercises which the boys rotated between. So good to see the fellas training with fluency, committment and intensity. Our topic of conversation was on music. We continued the same theme as last week, with being mindful about what we choose to influence us by what we see and hea...r. Some of the music we listen to may not be telling us a good message, in fact quite the opposite. So lets guard our hearts from the messages glorifying drug use and bad language. Even if it seems normal because of the exposure we have to it, it doesn't have to become our standard norm! Fantastic effort today lads. So proud of you all for the men you are becoming! 19.01.2022 CHURCHLANDS SHS Hi everyone! Tony and I trained the lads at Churchlands with some Power exercises today. ... We concentrated on the Deadlift and Bench Press. These two movements alone will train all the muscles in the body. Making them superior by nature! The lads enjoyed raising the weights as all young men enjoy the challenge of lifting more! The Deadlift especially is quite tough to learn at first, but with more practice the lads will pick it up. Practice, practice and more practice... MENTORING - GOSSIP IS NOT OK! We discussed how our spoken words have the power to influence our thoughts and subsequently our actions. Therefore having great power! Our words have the power to build each other up, or tear each other down. We chatted about the destructive nature of "Gossip"! Planting bad seeds in other peoples hearts about another individual is NOT OK! Speaking badly of another behind another persons back is NOT OK! We demonstrated to the lads how if they have an issue with another that they need to bring it directly and in private to that individual. Delivering the truth in love is a key skill in maintaing realtionships and is one that needs to be practiced in order to have an effective outcome. Looking forward to continuing this next week as we take the lads to Shalom House for an outing. It will be a great day of testimony sharing and i know will have an impact on the lads for good. 18.01.2022 ARMS DAY TRAINING Hi everyone! It was arms training day at the Communicare Academy this afternoon. The number of students were down due to other sporting committments. ... Sam and I took full advantage of this as we were able to train the students one on one. This enabled the lads and girls to get our undivided attention, which was fantastic! We smashed out a thorough arm workout, honing in on the students techniques. They all put in a top effort Afterwards Sam spoke about alcohol abuse, this follows on our theme for the term which is drug and alcohol addiction. Sam made this very relatable to the students and some great points were discussed. Our mission is to help the students to make better choices through the chats we have on these topics and to learn through the sharing of our mistakes. What an honour it is to speak into the lives of these students. Look forward to doing it all again next week!
18.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone, Today we trained Chest & Back with the lads and girls at the Communicare Academy. The new lads are adapting quickly to the training and the Culture within the BIG Program.... They all put in a top effort as they learnt the new exercises. It's great to get them when they're fresh and haven't done any training before, as none of them have had a chance to learn bad habits. All of the students were diligent, hard working and teachable. It is such a pleasure to train them when they have this type of mature attitude. MENTORING WHY WE TRAIN & WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS! Afterwards we discussed why we train, the benefits and how it works. I asked the students what they thought of the reasons why we train. They came up with some excellent answers! Including things like mental health benefits, such as helping to manage anxiety and depression. Feeling more confident and positive about life in general. Others said that it makes them stronger and more able. Learning discipline and self control and how when translated to other areas in our lives are necessary and successful traits to possess, in order to get on in life. All of which can be learnt and practiced in the gym! We also discussed the benefits to the immune system and maintaining strong bodies for optimum health. Fantastic topic of discussion and training today by all involved. Can't wait to continue next week. Well done!
18.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone, Training with the lads and girls at the Communicare Academy this afternoon consisted of Shoulders and Abs. I picked some fantastic movements for both body parts. Many of the free weight movements for the shoulders engage the core and recruit the postural muscles of the back. This in turn improves posture and helps to strengthen the neck. ... The students all trained fantastically well and committed themselves to learning each exercise. Many of the students are new to training, so the whole experience can be intimidating. None the less they were all courageous with their approach and stepped up to the task in hand! MENTORING DAILY STRUGGLES! After training we chatted about the daily struggles we all face. It was a great opportunity to ask the students what they struggle with. I started the discussion by sharing some of my own struggles to help lead the way in the group chat. This in turn gave them the unspoken permission to do the same. Subsequently the students started to open up as we all discussed what we deal with in our minds that can weigh us down. Many of the things i shared were relatable with the lads and girls, especially when I told them about my battles as a teenager. Today wasn't about having answers and solutions! The power was more in the ability to share our battles verbally with one another and in turn realise that we are not on our own. There is power to overcome just by speaking things out! 18.01.2022 BACK TRAINING DAY Hi everyone! An awesome training day at the Communicare Academy this afternoon. The students put in a mighty effort with their Deadlifts, Lat pulldowns and Dumbbell pullovers.... Basic, but extremely fundamental training exercises that strengthen the Back, Hamstrings and the Core! One lad even hitting his goal Deadlift weight before the end of term and a new PB for him! Very encouraging to see, Well done to all MENTORING POINTS! "The effects of an individuals drug & alcohol abuse on the Family unit and the Community!" Sam delivered a fantastic topic of discussion today. He shared with the students how a family member using drugs or with a drinking problem can tear the whole family unit apart. The consequences of one persons actions can divide and break up the whole family. The addict can often cause differing opinions by the family members on knowing how to deal with their loved one caught up in addiction. The stress, heart ache and subsequent pressure this puts on families can cause them to split. It displays once again how one persons actions can have a ripple effect on many, for either Good or Bad! Sam and I are very proud of you all and how far you have come. Great work today!

16.01.2022 TRAINING & MENTORING Hi Everyone! Training with the lads at the Communicare Academy today. We did some serious lifting today, pushing them on the Deadlifts, Rack Pulls, Bench Press and Incline Dumbell Presses. ... It was classic old school Training at it's best, using the Push / Pull training method. Nothing fancy here, just high intensity free weights lifting. The lads put in a top effort and maintained great form even when struggling at the end of their sets. I can see they are well on their way to achieving their end of term lifting goals. Afterwards we chatted more about drug addiction. We shared how making choices that make you feel good for the now (short term) will have long term dia consequences. We related it into other areas of life as well. Moral of the story was "The Shortest way is often the Longest way"! Well done lads!

14.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DC Hi everyone, Awesome day of training with the lads at Banksia this afternoon. We hit the Shoulders & Abs. The lads were super well behaved and hard working. They were attentive to all the exercises that I showed them. Working really well in their pairs on each movement. It's a task and a half coordinating 8 lads who have little to no experience in the gym. So I was so proud to see them all training so well and taking it seriously. Well done ... MENTORING DRUG ADDICTION - THE COMPROMISE KILLS & IT'S CONSEQUENCES! Once the training was finished we chatted about how a compromise can open up the door to greater things and set you on a path you don't wanna go down. This path leads to a wake of destruction for the individual and the people around you in your circle. We discussed the physical effects of drug use which included poor hygiene and malnourished bones, teeth and muscles. To the mental effects such as Paranoia, Schizophrenia and depression. On a deeper level the effect it has on your inner man, such as guilt, shame, regret, condemnation. All of which result in a lack of self respect, self worth and self esteem. Not to mention the pain it causes to your family and friends who have to watch you go on this destructive path. The lads received this message well and could relate to what I was saying as they have already been witnesses to its destruction first hand. Top marks today lads!

12.01.2022 THE BIG PROGRAM IS BACK! Great first day back with the lads at the Communicare Academy. It's been 10 weeks since we were training last. Everyone was a bit rusty after the long break, so we went back to some basic compound lifts to help rebuild some good foundational strength. Deadlifts, Squats, Flat Dumbell presses and some Military presses were all that we did for the session. The lads were nackered by the end of it as their strength endurance and cardiovascular fitness ...got put to the test! Afterwards we discussed the importance of being "ADAPTABLE". During the course of this lockdown phase. We have all had plans changed and lifestyles significantly disrupted. Being able to quickly adapt is an important skill to have in order to maintain physical and mental health. Great to be back doing what we love! Well done lads
11.01.2022 The Trap of Addiction Today we put the guys through a chest and bicep workout as we want to run through a few of the more basic movements before we step it up a notch. 11.01.2022 Hi guys! Today we followed in the same fashion with the girls program as with the lads. We worked out the chest and back muscle groups. Some of the exercises were new to the girls so we spent a good amount of time teaching the new movements before training hard. Gotta walk before you can run! Safe and effective technique is crucial to establish before training hard. For two reasons... Firstly, to prevent injury and secondly to stimulate the muscles effectively for developmen...t. Social media was the topic for the days mentoring. We used the example of how bad food for the body can make us over weight, tired, over stimulated, diseased, sad etc...The list goes on. Our spirits are no different. The door way to our souls are our eyes and ears. What we allow in us from what we see and hear is programming us for better or worse. So we need to be mindful of the content upon what we let in. Social media can often give us an unrealistic view of how we should be and what we are supposed to have in order to be socially accepted and successful. Great discussions were had as the girls shared their opinions. Lets be mindful of what we allow in, because whats in you operates through you. Top marks girls for today, you are all exceptional! 11.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone, Training back at the Communicare Academy today. There were some new students who joined the BIG Program with the lads. They were easy to work with as they were all very respectful and attentive. ... I paired the new ones with the other lads who have been in the BIG Program for a few years now. The experienced fellas stepped up really well assisting in coaching the new lads with the techniques and skills that they have learnt over the years. It's so wonderful to see them teaching others and giving back what they have learnt themselves. Great team spirit today and as always I'm super proud of the young men they are today! The girls were exceptional as well, with their approach to the training and the effort they put in. Top marks girls! MENTORING DAILY ROUTINES FOR HEALTHY MIND AND BODY! Afterwards we chatted about the simple day to day routines that hold us in good stead to function optimally for physical and mental health. From making your bed in the morning to keeping your house tidy and organised. Having regular exercise and eating habits all play a huge part in keeping you up beat and on top of your game! These daily practices help manage stress, anxiety and depression. When you feel good physically you are better equipped to deal with all the things life throws at you... Establishing these habits at a young age will help you to have a successful life for the rest of your life. So pretty important i reckon... Well done to you all today. Top marks all round... 10.01.2022 FIRST DAY AT CHURCHLANDS! Today was our first session with the Churchlands lads. Christian and I shared our stories of how we turned our lives around and we got the guys on the same page with how the program will look for the next 10 weeks. We were really happy with the group and we cant wait to get stuck into it! Stay tuned

It makes sense to not press on too quickly so that the lads get a chance to put into practice what they have learnt from the weeks previous. They all trained well and are already helping eachother out with training tips off their own initiative. Fantastic to see! MENTORING! "OUR CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE" In our discussion we chatted about the things that influence our thoughts and subsequently our actions. Four key points were as follows. 1. Music 2. Geographical (places we hang around) 3. Social media, internet and tv 4. People we hang around (the company we keep) Our eyes and ears are the door ways to our soul. Some things we cannot influence what goes in us, but some things we can. We chatted about the need to nourish our inner man, just like the body needs good nourishment if it is to function healthily! So does our mind... Made for a great discussion and gave food for thought! Looking forward to continuing this topic further next week. Top effort from the lads today! Well done
10.01.2022 LEGS DAY TRAINING Hi everyone! Sam and I were laying down the foundations today at the Communicare Academy. ... It was LEGS DAY! Legs are the foundation of the body and therefore very important to train thoroughly. They provide stability and core strength to the midesction. The two most fundamental exercises to leg training are the Squats and Lunges. Both are equally demanding on the muscles and lungs. They command focus and confidence if they are to be performed correctly. The students did an outstanding job of executing these advanced movements and needless to say were exhausted at the finish. Afterwards we continued with our talk about Drug Addiction and its behaviour. We taught how to bring truth to a friend who is caught up in addiction. It was made clear that it is our responsibility to be our brothers / sisters keeper and look out for one another. Bringing correction even if it causes short term offense, displays that you care and love that person. Rather than saying nothing and letting that friend or loved one continue going down a dark path. We shared how you must also put in place boundaries. Saying that you no longer can continue to hang out with a friend doing drugs. Reason being is that their behavior has a very real chance of pulling you into their world of addiction too, if exposed to it enough. Great day of training and mentoring! 08.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone, LEG DAY TRAINING! ... The lads and girls were put through their paces today with training legs. All the crucial leg exercises were involved. Squats, Lunges and more squats on the Smith Machine. Leg training demands focus, commitment and determination! It was a great character building session to say the least... MENTORING WHAT CHARACTER TRAITS CAN BE DEVELOPED THROUGH TRAINING! There are many physical benefits from training, but there is another side to training that can get over looked. It is the character traits that also get developed along side the physical ones which can hold you in good stead for facing all of life's challenges. The students reeled off so many mental benefits. I was so impressed with their comments, because I could tell that it was coming from their own experience with weight training in the BIG Program. Traits such as, Self Confidence, Courage, Patience, Resilience, Perseverance, Mental Endurance, Emotional stability, Focus, Self Control, etc etc.... None of these points were raised by myself, they all came from the students and their first hand experience from training. They all agreed that these traits can be translated to all other aspects of their lives, from studying to achieving dreams and goals. It will certainly hold them in better stead when facing all life has to throw at them as they develop into adulthood. Top marks and fantastic effort today! Well done
08.01.2022 SHOULDERS TRAINING Hi everyone! Shoulder training at the Communicare Academy this afternoon. We focused on the basic free weights exercises. Military Press, Dumbell press and side lateral raises. These exercises command your focus as the weights can go all over the place if you're not concentrating! ... Great exercises for Core Strength, Stability and improving Coordination! A great work ethic was displayed by all the students as they challenged themselves by pushing their limits! Top effort YOUR CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE The Mentoring topic above, was very thought provoking. We discussed how everything we see and hear has the ability to program the way we Act, Think, Feel, Talk, Dress etc... Some things in our sphere of influence are out of our control. We must try our best to block the influeces that are harmful and steer towards the influences that are beneficial to our behavior and mental wellbeing. I was very impressed with the maturity of thought that went into the comments from the students. Looking forward to seeing you all again next week. Top marks today! Well done

07.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DC Hi everyone, Fantastic to be back at Banksia again today. I have a new buch of fellas for this term as they want to give other lads the opportunity to experience the BIG Program. ... I always use this first session to share my testimony so the lads know where I've come from. It inadvertently demonstrates my credentials through my lifes achievements and experiences. It shows them that i am equipped to do what i do. Needless to say the lads were captivated by my story and the sharing of some of my life's struggles. It was clear to see that what i shared was resinating with all of them. They were all very respectful and well behaved. I'm so looking forward to teaching them what i know over the next 10 weeks. 07.01.2022 IMMUNE SYSTEM "Pevention is better than cure" Hi everyone! What a fantastic session we had with the lads at the Communicare Academy today. We trained back and chest, with a push pull routine. The lads are such awesome trainers and the fruit of their committment is really starting to pay off. It was a basic but solid training session with every one of the fellas displaying so much fluency with their techniques. Well impressed!!! ... Due to the current climate and atmosphere of uncertainty in the air, i thought it best to commit our whole discussion time to taking back some control. Focusing on what we can control and not worrying about the things we cant! We discussed three major factors that contribute to maintaing and building a healthy "IMMUNE SYSTEM"! 1. What foods support a healthy immune system. 2. How weight training builds not only a strong constitution, but also builds a stong nervous and also immune system. 3. Life style habits - regular sleeping patterns and positive mindsets all contribute to the support of a strong immune system. Sam and I are So privileged to be working along side these lads. You are all first class young men and a pleasure to work with. Top marks fellas
07.01.2022 Last Session Before The Holidays Its great to end the term with some hard training and a recap of everything learnt. We put the guys through some deadlifts and bench press and then we went over all of our mentoring points from this term. ... Our guys are getting really consistent and we are stoked with the results. 06.01.2022 BIG PROGRAM - MENTORING DAY Hi everyone! It was the first week back at the Communicare Academy for Sam and I. We both shared our testimonies and life stories with the students, just to get us all on the same page. We talked about our struggles with drug addiction and what it took to turn our lives around. Lets hope our strong message acts as a stern deterent for the lads and girls in our program. ... This will be the theme for mentoring for the first half of this school term. Not much training today as we felt our life messages were a higher priority for this first week back. Looking forward to some solid training with you all next week. Great to be back!
06.01.2022 CHURCHLANDS / SHALOM VISIT Hi everyone, What an amazing day was had by all at Shalom House today! ... I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU! to Peter Lyndon James, the residents of Shalom House and to Lisa and Sandy from Churchlands SHS for facilitating the BIG Program and supporting the work I am doing. It is so appreciated and valued. Thank you! We started off the day with a game of Soccer, mixing up the lads from Churchlands and Shalom into opposing teams. It was a great way to break the ice and get to know each other. Not sure how the lads felt about the pink bibs, but it worked! Lol... TESTIMONIES AND MENTORING After the game we sat down and each one of the five Shalom fellas got up and shared their life story of how they grappled with addiction combined with life controlling heart issues that sent them on a path to destruction and despair. They then talked about the changes that have been occuring in their lives. Now that they have been making right choices, since coming into the Shalom House Program. To the best of my ability i drew out a message from each one of their stories to make it relatable to the young lads from Churchlands. Conveying a simple yet conclusive message that you don't have to get it WRONG to get it RIGHT! Combined unresolved heart issues of Jealousy, Anger, Bitterness, Resentment, Fear and Unforgiveness. If not dealt with and brought to the surface will compound and steer your life in a direction you don't wanna be headed. It's a recipe for a life of isolation, division, and heart ache when it is amplified with drug and alcohol addiction. The lads from Shalom shared with truth and transparency and in my opinion were very courageous. It takes great strength of heart to share as openly and as vulnerably as they did today. There were no frills to the messages shared and im sure they had a tremendous impact on all who were present. Well done to all the lads today from both Shalom and Churchlands. It was a pleasure to work alongside each and every one of you!
06.01.2022 BANKSIA HILL DC Hi everyone! Today i was back training the lads at Banksia Hill. I put the fellas through an Arm workout ... They worked around 6 exercises. 3 exercises for Biceps and 3 for Triceps. The lads were very engaged and executed the movements with precision and focus! I am so happy to see them taking their training seriously and with enthusiasm. MENTORING - CONSEQUENCES OF DRUG ADDICTION! There are many consequences of drug addiction. I focused on 5 areas. 1. Health - Physical & Mental 2. Family - loss of trust and sewing division 3. Community - Your actions under the influence of drug use can make community members feel scared and fearful of your behaviour. This is NOT ok! 4. Heart impact! - Guilt, shame, condemnation, lack of self respect, fear and despair amongst many other negative emotions pepper our heart and work through us when an individual uses drugs. Nothing good can come from us when we operate from these destructive emotions. 5. Criminal records - can cause many restrictions on our lives in the future and restict our options. It can impact the following: Trips to some overseas country's Choice of jobs and employment options Applications for rental properties, house and car loans, insurance policies etc... It was so good to see the lads listen with intent on todays discussion. They all had some great input and this i found very encouraging indeed. There is a hope and a bright future for these lads if they choose to take these lessons to heart and start making right choices from here on in! A BIG well done today fellas!
05.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone! The students smashed it today! ... We trained Back & Chest together in a push pull style of workout. I introduced a couple of new exercises just to keep things spiced up. The students are training with such professionalism. All the practice and training is paying off! They are displaying great leadership qualities and initiative during the sessions. This is the outcome I am after... Terrific! It's fantastic to witness these changes over the past few years and see how far they have come. Very rewarding indeed! MENTORING - PLANNING YOUR VISION FOR YOUR LIFE As the students all agreed, we need purpose for your life. Without have a plan and a purpose, we coast along with no real direction. This can be a time when you are more susceptible to the temptations of drug use as we need to fill the void in our lives with something that makes us feel good. The students categorized some key areas that are integral in accomplishing a goal / vision. We will continue to put more clarity on these points in the weeks to come as good planning is crucial to the success of any goal or vision. Exciting few weeks ahead!!! A massive well done to you all today!

04.01.2022 COMMUNICARE ACADEMY Hi everyone! First day back for the BIG Program at the Communicare Academy. Awesome to finally be back after such a long break. I started with an introduction of the programs objectives and a short testimony of my own life's journey. This got everyone on the same page as there were a couple of new students on board. ... Training started off with the basic compound exercises of Squats, Deadlifts, Bench press and some Ez Barbell curls. I structured it in a circuit style of training to give the students a solid overall body workout. The lads were exhausted half way through as this style of training really challenged their aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Probably also due to the fact they were all wearing masks as well. lol The girls trained really well too. I was very impressed with their form and techniques and what they had remembered from last years training. Top marks girls! MENTORING THE NATURE OF DRUG ADDICTION! I had a great discussion with the students about drug addiction after the training. It was a very open chat with the students. They shared about people they knew who use drugs or abuse alcohol and how it affects relationships. The students need to be educated on all aspects of drug and alcohol abuse. It's damaging effects on the individual and the damage it does to the people who care about and love them. Looking forward to this year with the students. All of them trained tremendously well today. 04.01.2022 Hi guys! The girls program was awesome today at the Communicare Academy. We changed things up from last week, with a cross fit style of training. It involved 10 exercises in a circuit style routine. There were big compound exercises combined with battle ropes, step ups and air bike. The combination of isolation on the muscles and heavy demand on the lungs made for a really intense but varied exercise routine. Great committment from the girls and some marked improvement on al...l of your techniques as well. So good to see! We continued with our chat after. Music was the topic for the session. There is so much influence in the messages that come through what we listen to and not all of it is good. We discussed how we should be mindful about what we expose ourselves to. Especially when so much of the music out there glorifies drug use, rebellion against authority and brokenness etc... We all agreed we need to guard our hearts from such messages and be more aware of the influence music can have. Top marks girls and so proud of you all. Well done! See more
04.01.2022 BIG PROGRAM LEGS DAY Hi guys! The girls put in a top effort today at the Communicare Academy in Kenwick. It was a vigorous leg session which incorporated the major weight training exercises with cross fit style exercises. Squats, lunges and Stiff leg Deadlifts were mixed with airbike, battle ropes and box step ups and lots more.... The girls were spent by the end of it. ... They executed the exercises with great form and enthusiasm. So well done Drug & Alcohol addiction was the topic for todays talk and the rest of the school term. Sam kicked off the chat and discussion, teaching from his own experiences. The girls had some really good questions for Sam and they were all very engaged with what he had to share. So glad Sam and i are able to turn our bad experiences around for good and speak into the lives of these young women. Its a pleasure to work with you all and we look forward to continuing our talks and training next week.

So Sam and I spent the session planning out a training program to help them achieve their end of term goals. 02.01.2022 IMMUNE SYSTEM "Prevention is better than cure" Hi everyone! Sam and I took full advantage of the reduction in numbers today in the Girls BIG Program at the Communicare Academy. We got to give all of our attention to these two awesome young ladies. They trained so well and they were so teachable, it made it an absolute pleasure to teach and train them. We followed in the same fashion as the lads and trained BACK & CHEST! ... We did the same push pull routine as the fellas. The techniques of the girls was that good, you would think they had been training for years. In our discussion we covered all the same points on maintaining and building a healthy and optimum IMMUNE SYSTEM! As i thought this topic would be very fitting due to the current climate of things. Its so IMPORTANT in times like this to take back what we can control and to not focus on what we cannot! A Massive well done to you all for today!
01.01.2022 BIG PROGRAM - TRAINING DAY Hi everyone! Today was our first day back of serious training at the Communicare Academy. Sam and I concentrated on the exercises necessary to strengthen the Deadlift and Bench press. We worked the Hamstrings, Back, Chest, Shoulders and Triceps. ... The committment from the students to learn and train hard was exceptional. Many of them are starting to see the fruits of their labour as their strength is improving from week to week. Sam and I continued our discussion from last week on the topic of drug addiction. We always make our talks interactive and as relational as we can in order to meet the students where they are at in their own walk in life. We discussed the destructive nature of compromise and its knock on effect to open more doors that are better off remaining shut! Well done to all the students at Communicare, It is a real pleasure to do the work we do with you. Look forward to doing it all again next week!
