24.01.2022 Task Lighting This beautiful, well appointed kitchen has an LED strip light to display the feature travertine backsplash Unfortunately this was not practical task lighting when trying to prepare food. We added some quality Apex downlights with polished aluminium frames, dicroric style reflectors and a diffused LED chip.... 11.01.2022 Slow or unreliable internet connection? Wifi vs LAN cable... ... Home wifi systems are great and very convenient, especially for mobiles and tablets, but wifi can not compete with the speed or reliability of a (data) LAN cable that directly connects an appliance to your modem and therefore LAN is the ideal way to connect smart TVs, Gaming Consoles or a PC to the Internet. Even if the wifi is in the same room as a TV (ideal location) the LAN cable is still much faster. If the TV is in a different room to the wifi then the distance and walls between them will impair the performance of the wifi and you may even experience dropouts or a very slow connection. 07.01.2022 Update on my recovery since my accident. Hello to all of my wonderful clients and the 581 people that follow the BROWN Electrical and Communications Facebook page.... Again I would like to thank everyone for their concern, kind words and best wishes. After 6 weeks in a sling to isolate movement of my fractured scapula it has apparently healed to a point that I can take off the sling... set the sling on fire ... and move freely once more. Just no heavy lifting for another 4-6 weeks. I still have an appointment to attend regarding the skull fracture but aside from a bit of vertigo I think its also going well. This does mean I am fully capable to assist you with your electrical requirements. From now on It will be without a sling.... but plus gloves, a mask, safety glasses etc. Due to the pandemic, I will be taking all appropriate measures to help keep your home and family safe as well as hopefully going home safely to my family that includes two 11 month old vulnerable twins. 06.01.2022 Lithium Battery Explodes! The home owner was about to head upstairs when she heard a loud bang from the garage. When she opened the door there was a lot of black smoke coming from the workshop. A charging Dyson Stick Vac, fitted with an aftermarket replacement battery, had caught fire and exploded.... As a precaution we fitted a hardwired smoke alarm to the Garage. 03.01.2022 Power Surges Surge Protection Devices What is a power surge?... A power surge is an unexpected or uncontrolled over supply of voltage or current through an electrical system. These may only last for milliseconds but can have several serious outcomes. For example: Instantly destroy electronic equipment or Damage a component enough that although it continues to work, suddenly fails in a day, week, month or year or Over time multiple small surges degrade components reducing the life span How is a power surge caused? Power surges can occur outside the home as well as inside the home. Some common causes are: External: The power coming back on after a blackout High voltage switching at power stations Lightning strikes Damaged powerlines Internal: Damaged wiring Overloaded circuits Appliances with a significant power draw turning on and off (Air conditioners, Pool pumps, Fridges, Machinery). How can you protect your home? As surges originate from outside as well as within the home the best protection is a two tier approach. 1) Plug in surge protectors are good to protect a valuable appliance like a computer or tv. They are great for small surges and can protect appliances from surges that originate within the home. 2) A surge protection device fitted to the main switchboard is great for surges that originate external to the home. They can protect not only appliances but also the wiring and accessories. This type of device can handle significant surges or greatly reduce them to be small enough that they are dealt with by the internal surge protection.

02.01.2022 Summer is just around the corner! An infinity edge pool looks amazing but one draw back to this (or waterfalls) is that the wind strips away a lot of the waters warmth! So that this spectacular pool can be enjoyed all year round the owners had their 15 amp heat pump replaced with this powerful three phase heat pump with a potential of 12.5 amps per phase! This heat pump required a new cable run to it from a switchboard located under the upstairs floor and a fl...at skillion roof, therefore a little creativity was needed to make this possible.
