18.01.2022 What is Brown Cow Beef? Its meat provided to you by our small, local family farm. Our dual purpose cattle breed Brown Swiss is one of the oldest in the world. We produce high quality milk, and now meat with the help of a local on-farm boutique abattoir, Koallah Farm. We select our young meat cattle to be butchered at the prime age and condition, to make sure meat is premium quality. Growing up at the unique environment of the Stony Rises gives our cattle nutrition and minerals beneficial to the quality and flavour of the meat. Know where your food comes from, support local! 16.01.2022 Hi everyone, Brown cow beef will be available on the 27th July again. Sorry for the wait for some of you.... A few changes have happened with the butchers, and therefore there wont be any burger mix, only premium mince, and also the bbq steaks can no longer be marinated in the boxes. Some of us prefer to add our own spices anyway so I hope this isnt going to matter. Although the processing costs have gone up for us, we will keep our price the same, $170 for 10 kgs. Please comment or message your orders, and feel free to call if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting your local farmer!

This time you will receive 1 kg extra, cuts will vary depending on availability. So 11 kg for $170! Some extras will be available to purchase on the day too, if you would like to add some mince or sausages for example. Order now, pay at delivery! Credit cards now accepted too.

12.01.2022 I love the changes in seasons. In my heart I will always be disappointed that the snow will not come ( to stay anyway!) Cold season is perfect for stews, roasts, casseroles etc. Who would like a bit of Brown Cow Beef to help with those?

10.01.2022 So after the long long dry period we finally had some rain, and this beautiful weed is covering the grounds bare patches first thing! Yes, its another weed. The cows love it, and I dont mind it myself in a salad. Did you know that this weed, called purslane has more Omega 3 than any other leafy vegetable. Apparently more than some fish oils! It also tastes nice.... You may not want it to cover your garden completely, but dont be afraid to taste it . See more

04.01.2022 You are what you eat !! I have started to collect pictures of plants that grow in our paddocks, which is where the brown cow beef cattle graze. There are so many, native and introduced species, we estimate around a hundred! The unique landscape that we have, the stony rises, means that we dont harvest or make hay. Therefore the soils have plenty of organic matter and the variety of grasses, plants and shrubs is great. Also the volcanic rocks scattered around and the young vo...lcanic soils are very rich in nutrients, meaning we are very lucky and dont need to fertilise much. Under and around the tree violet, which are a native bush in this area, we can find a microclimate for many beneficial plants, some considered as weeds in the garden, but which are actually edible to people as well as cattle. The tree violet itself is something cows like to munch on, especially young branches after rain. In the following pictures you can see chickweed, then sheep sorrell and oxalis. Chickweed for example contains lots of vitamins, calcium, potassium and has twice the iron level of spinach! To be continued...
