17.01.2022 The superannuation guarantee amnesty ends on 7 September 2020. The amnesty is to encourage employers to come forward and disclose underpayment of superannuation entitlements for the period of 1 July 1982 to 31 March 2018, with the incentive of not incurring the usual penalties for underpayment. Employers then have the option of either repaying the unpaid amounts in full, or entering into a payment plan with the ATO. 12.01.2022 The Federal Government recently passed a bill which establishes a new lifetime registration regime for directors, under which every director is assigned a unique identifier known as a Director Identification Number (DIN). 11.01.2022 Will your foreign person trust amendment prevent you from distributing to other trusts? When preparing end of year trust distributions it is important to consider the impact of any foreign person exclusions in the trust deed. Failure to consider this and to get it right can result in the trust distribution being ineffective and the trust income being taxed to the trustee at 47%. 11.01.2022 At Brown Wright Stein we support a number of charities including Radiology Across Borders (RAB) which trains local doctors in developing nations to use the power of radiology to save lives. Recently RAB completed a successful 6 month trial in Samoa with more than 20 radiologist volunteers who helped with a huge number of cases including patients ranging in age from newborn, up to a 67 year old. 02.01.2022 Employers nationwide have welcomed what is believed to be the Fair Work Commissions first published decision involving a JobKeeper dispute, which found in favour of the employer. In what is good news for employers, the decision confirms that employees who are stood-down under the JobKeeper laws, may be ordered to comply with an employers request to take annual leave in order to reduce annual leave liabilities.
