25.01.2022 Hi everyone I just thought I’ll give you an update on the pharmacy services in response to the recent rapid development in relation to the coronavirus outbreak. We will now run two teams, exclusively of each other - Team Jit (Jit, Rachel, Emma) and Team Brie (Brie, Sarah, Bethany). The staff in the team will not cross path with staff in the other team. That way we are ensuring that in the event of one team goes down in isolation, the other team can still function and keepin...g pharmacy services going. Our weekday opening hours remains the same - 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. However, Saturday hours will now be 8:30am to 2:30pm. The slightly longer opening hours on Saturday is extended should any need for delivery arise. We will keep you updated if anything changes. #together #community #brunswickheads

25.01.2022 Not the prettiest picture but I thought I’ll do a quick guide on DIY hand sanitiser if you can’t find any. Basically, you’ll need: Methylated spirits (any brand), aloe vera gel (any brand, this is to counter the dehydrating effect of ethanol and also makes it less runny), and an empty bottle of your choice (I find spray bottle generally works well). Measure out 70ml of methylated spirits, mix into 30g of aloe vera gel, shake or stir well for a good consistency. This method ...will yield 100ml of 66.5% of ethanol, which is above the minimum 60% as recommended by US CDC. Remember, practicing good hand hygiene is important in times like this. Part of this effort is epidemiology: the study of how infections move through populations and how to control them. Epidemiology incorporates everything from geograph...y to complex mathematics in its effort to understand the spread of disease. One quantity scientists use to measure how a disease spreads through a population is the "basic reproduction number," otherwise known as R0 (pronounced "R naught," or, if you hate pirates, "arr not"). This number tells us how many people, on average, each infected person will in turn infect. While it doesn't tell us how deadly an epidemic is, R0 is a measure of how infectious a new disease is, and helps guide epidemic control strategies implemented by governments and health organizations. If R0 is less than 1, the disease will typically die out: Each infected person has a low chance of passing the infection along to even one additional individual. An R0 larger than 1 means each sick person infects at least one other person on average, who then could infect others, until the disease spreads through the population. This is a significant milestone in our fight against covid-19, as it symbolises how far and how well we have done as a community, as Australians! And we couldn’t have done this without the help of this amazing community. 09.01.2022 Any brand of methylated spirits would be ok, but if you’re concerned about methanol content in methylated spirits, then I would recommend the Diggers brand which you can find at any hardware store, I have contacted them and confirmed that it doesn’t contain methanol. Again, any brand of aloe vera gel would be fine too, or even homegrown one, just making sure the measurement is correct. If you require more, just multiply the ingredient volume/weight by the... fraction required, for example, if you want to make 500ml, then it’s 350ml methylated spirits mix with 150g of aloe vera gel. The end product yields 100ml 66.5% w/v of alcohol content which is above the minimum of 60% as required as an effective disinfectant. That way you’ll have some extra room to add a few drops of aromatic oil of your choice like lavender oil or peppermint oil, without compromising its effectiveness. Super easy! For the maths geek out there , if you just want a no-frill, 60% w/v alcohol in order to save some methylated spirits, then it’s 63.15ml of methylated spirits mix into 36.85g of aloe vera, still yields 100ml. 03.01.2022 Hi everyone Today I am reminded on the very first post I made on the shop’s Instagram account with the above quote by Joyce Meyer. At Brunswick Heads Pharmacy we take the health and well-being of our staff and customers very seriously. In view of the current SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, we would like to announce some measures and changes to keep our staff and customers safe.... 1. WE ARE STILL OPEN on normal business hours, but the door to both entrances into the Pharmacy will now be shut slightly, with a notice on each of the door to remind customers to use the hand sanitiser provided, to clean hands prior to entering the Pharmacy. However, if you are unwell, with a cold or flu-like symptoms, please knock on the door or make a phone call to us before entering the Pharmacy, one of our friendly staff will provide you with further instructions and will be able to help you with any purchase you need. 2. We are disinfecting all hard surface and high traffic area regularly, if you see them in action, feel free to air-high five them 3. EFTPOS or PayWave is our preferred method of payment form for the time being. We understand that this is not an option for everyone, but reducing our cash handling will help stop the spread of virus. It’s much easier to disinfect an EFTPOS terminal than a $20 note. 4. We do deliveries locally. If you don’t feel comfortable out in the public and needing medications or other goods, we can deliver to you. We have a portable EFTPOS machine which we can bring to you to finalise payment. Even though the large majority of people who contract coronavirus will recover fully, it is our medically vulnerable and elderly patients who are most at risk. 02.01.2022 UPDATE #237 (lost count on how many updates now ) Again, apologise for the picture quality, they were done in haste but I did put on some filters to glamourise it for Instagram So, I've put in place additional measures to ensure our, and customer's safety in the pharmacy:... 1. Witches hats now installed outside the shop to manage a queue (when there’s one), with marking on ground to indicate 1.5m between each person in the queue 2. The bell has been replace by a sensor alarm - customer just need to wave their hand over it to get our attention, no need to touch anything, just need to sanitise hands before coming in. 3. The shop is now in a one way traffic - one entry, one exit, following the arrows on the carpet - that way you don’t need to go pass anyone waiting in line. 4. Tape barrier has been put up in front of the counters to maintain social distancing principle of 1.5m between individuals.
