14.01.2022 There is currently a lot of uncertainty surrounding the provision of allied health services in #melbourne We are awaiting information from the government and our peak professional bodies - @auschiros @osteopathyau @myotherapyassociationau - who are currently deep in conversation about how we are allowed to practice. The current guidelines stipulate that we are able to remain open, but that every patient also needs a referral from their GP to come and see us. We understa...nd that this places an additional burden on GP clinics and a significant inconvenience on our patients. 13.01.2022 It is with great sadness and frustration that we are having to press pause on providing any treatment that isnt considered urgent. Under metro Melbournes Stage 4 restrictions, the current official advice (which is subject to change at any time) is that Allied Health practices are permitted to remain open, but this is not business as usual. Weve been advised that treatment must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant c...hange/deterioration in the patient/clients functional independence necessitating escalation of care. Examples provided by the DHHS of when it is appropriate for care to be provided to a patient include the following: 1. To avoid a requirement for specialist input/review; 2. To avoid an increase in care needs and/or alternate accommodation; 3. To avoid a hospital admission or emergency department presentation. For this reason, weve been advised that treatment should only be provided if it is considered essential for the next 6 weeks and where not receiving care is likely to lead to a significant deterioration in the health or wellbeing of the patient. In all other circumstances we are not allowed to see a patient for a face-to-face consultation. This is a legal requirement. We are still here for you though. We will be monitoring the phones, emails, and private messages here on social media. We will not leave you in the lurch. If you deteriorate significantly, have a new injury, or think that without our treatment youll end up in hospital, please make contact with us. We will have practitioners on call for these urgent cases. We are also looking into what services we can provide via Telehealth. If you currently have an appointment booked in, expect a call from us in the next few days to discuss your options. We are terribly sorry and saddened to have to do this, and we appreciate and understand how difficult these next 6 weeks will be to get through for everyone, but for now we have to focus on the bigger picture and the greater good. 08.01.2022 Victorian Chief Allied Health Officer and representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services met yesterday to seek clarification in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) reopening roadmap for Allied Health in Metropolitan Melbourne. Unfortunately, at this time there is no further official guidance and we are continuing to wait for details, which we understand may be made available next week. However, based on these recent discussions, it is our understanding th...at the restrictions will remain at their current levels for an additional fourteen days from 14 September to 27 September. That is to say, treatment must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of treatment, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patients functional independence necessitating escalation of care. This is affecting all allied health practitioners, not just our chiropractors, osteopaths and myotherapists, and we know how much this is hurting all of you (and us!). We are so sorry that we are unable to provide our usual level of care and we hope you understand that is heartbreaking for us to see you all struggling at this time. We know some of you are desperately holding off until your next appointment. Please contact us if you feel your condition is worsening. We can help with over the phone (or email) advice, and in extreme cases may be able to provide some hands-on treatment, but we need to talk to you first. In the meantime, Sandra and our team will be contacting every one that has an appointment over the next two weeks.
