23.01.2022 A lot of people have been talking about this work lately... Nicholas Galanin’s work at Cockatoo Island for the 22nd Biennale of Sydney. ‘Shadow on the Land, an ...excavation and bush burial’ is an excavation on Cockatoo Island of the shadow cast by the Captain Cook statue in Sydney’s Hyde Park In this speculative archaeological-style dig, Nicholas Galanin ‘uncovers’ or ‘excavates’ the shadow cast by the Captain Cook statue. The work rests between a possible past or future burial, a presence through absence of an object that today very much still functions as a celebration of colonial heroics. 18.01.2022 To compound matters, most of the Australia Councils funding is quarantined for a group of larger performing arts companies co-funded with the states and territories, known as the Major Performing Arts organisations. These big companies, such as Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, and the various state orchestras and theatre companies, soak up three-fifths of the Australia Councils total budget. There simply isnt much funding left to go round. https://www.theguardian.com//we-are-witnessing-a-cultural-

01.01.2022 Hey everyone, here's a survey about the experiences of art workers during the COVID-19 crisis: https://mailchi.mp/20a170c2a/australian-arts-workers-survey The ...survey is designed to: - to work towards collectivising the arts, - to gain an understanding of the structural disadvantages of practicing as an artist in Australia - to establish what actions we are willing to take in order to address these issues - and to share these findings broadly with artists, policy makers and the creative industry at large. Added to this some members of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) across VCA, MADA, and RMIT School of Art are coming together to consider a unified approach to protect the arts, jobs, and education in the face of large scale cuts from universities during this time. If anyone is interested in this then please send me a message. And if anyone has any other info on how artists and art workers are coming together at the moment, then please share! Thanks!
