25.01.2022 Christmas accessories and outfits might be cute for us humans, but they can cause your pet stress, discomfort and may even be a choking hazard. We don't recommend outfits for your pets, but if you choose to, make sure you monitor them at all times and remove any costumes at the first sign of stress.
25.01.2022 We get pets with all sorts of names come into our clinic with interesting backstories. Share with us the story behind your pet's name!
24.01.2022 "I'll just be five minutes!" On a hot day, heatstroke can happen in under 10 minutes in a car. The inside temperature in your car on a hot day can rise by almost 20 degrees in five minutes. Even if you're just running into the shops, never leave your dog in the car.

22.01.2022 To the valued pet parents of the Brunswick Central Vet Clinic, You may have noticed that recently it has been a bit harder to book an appointment to see one of our vets or nurses. We understand that this can be frustrating & at times stressful. Unfortunately, the veterinary industry is experiencing a severe shortage of vets & nurses. Every year there are high rates of resignation & complete departure from the industry altogether, a consequence of the intensely high pressure n...ature of our jobs, long hours, high emotional investment & poor work-life-balance. We encourage all to increase their personal awareness of the extreme stressors, high incidence of mental health conditions & subsequent high rates of suicide amongst vets. In conjunction with this, COVID19 has also taken a huge toll on the veterinary cohort in Victoria, with many of our international or interstate vets and nurses electing to move back home. Additionally, the influx of pet ownership & increased attention to existing pet care during COVID has spiked a rise in demand for veterinary care. We want to reassure you that here at BCVC, we are trying our absolute best to facilitate the highest quality care for all our patients & clients. We really do care about you & your pet - we are in this profession because we love animals & want to help them live happy, healthy lives. Our veterinarians Dr Liz, Dr Gezzel, Dr Ying & Dr. Nat are working tirelessly to continue providing high standards of care to your pets. The BCVC nurses & reception staff are also under immense pressure to meet the increased demand for veterinary services with reduced staff, & it truly affects us when we cannot assist all our clients due to an over-demand for appointments. Please be mindful that we are trying our very best during busy times. We ask that we are treated with kindness & respect, we hope that this message helps to foster an understanding of the challenges we are facing, & the reasons behind the shortage of appointment times. We look forward to continuing a strong and positive relationship with our clients & thank you to all who have already been so patient and understanding. From all the team at BCVC.
22.01.2022 Be mindful of decorations that are dangling or are within reach of pets, these can easily be a choking or injury hazard and can cause a gastrointestinal obstruction. Put your tree in a room off limits to your furry family member, or ensure there are no decorations hanging where they can reach.
20.01.2022 Christmas parties, dinners, squeals of excitement Christmas Day - while this is all part and parcel of Christmas time antics. We mustn't forget that this can be extremely stressful for our pets. It’s important to remember that even the friendliest, most patient dog or cat can become a danger when stressed, particularly to children so be mindful of your pet and how they are coping during the height of activity. Tips to help your pets this Christmas period: - Create a ''safe ...space'' in a part of the house that is cool and calm where your pet can retreat to if they begin to feel overwhelmed with too many people or sounds. - Pay attention to your pet’s body language and if you notice your pet showing signs of anxiety including excessive yawning and lip licking in dogs take them away to their ''safe space'' so they can relax. - Try not to spoil your pet too much with human food , no matter how much they might be begging for it! This can upset their stomachs and can be toxic to their overall health. If your pet already displays heightened anxiety, make an appointment with us today to discuss treatment options
20.01.2022 Do you have a vet visit soon? Please discuss with us whether you are feeding your pet correctly. Different breeds, ages, and conditions can have different nutritional requirements. Be sure to ask this question at your next vet visit
