23.01.2022 PLANTARFASCIITIS This week is foot health week so we thought we'd talk about this things that keep you grounded... Foot injuries are common at our clinic. They range from sporting injuries such as achilles tendinopathy, sesamoiditis (pain under the big toe) and stress fractures to longer term conditions such as arthritis. One of the most common conditions of the foot we see is Plantarfasciitis. ... This often presents as heel pain, especially in the mornings. It is common in those people who are active like runners, but also some that doesn’t exercise as much. The plantar fascia is a thick elastic structure running from your toes to your heel. It makes up part your arch and provides shock absorption with every step. Increased loads can affect the plantar fascia leading to pain and/or inflammation. Loads can include: running, long standing, prolonged standing on hard surfaces, increased weight, and pregnancy related postural changes. The rest of the body can also suffer from foot issues - shin pain, knee discomfort, hip or low back pain. Body is great at compensating and so sometimes pains are felt up along the chain. We at Brunswick Osteopathy Clinic love to get the foot and ankle moving as best they can, to decrease stress and load locally, and throughout the rest of the body. If you have foot pain and would like and osteopathic assessment book here at www.brunswickosteopath.com.au

13.01.2022 Foot Health Week surely calls for HEALTHY FEET TIPS! Get shoes that fit you properly Seems like simple advice, but many people squish their toots into shoes that are far from the cinderella slipper. ... Shoes should be comfortable and not too small. The end of the shoe should be about 1.5 centimetres from your longest toe (which may not be your big toe). Shoes should also be comfortable and flexible, to allow for adequate support and foot movement. So as we get some warmer weather, I hear you asking, Can I wear thongs?!?!. Well, of course you can. Ideally to the beach or places where it’s practical to slip them on and off. But for extended periods, best to have some better support and connection to your foot - you don’t need your feet working so hard just to keep them on! Care for your nails This does not mean painting them in pretty colours. No, fungal infections can become nasty! Frequently wash and dry your feet. Don’t be a slob and wear socks multiple days in a row. Avoid unhygienic pedicure salons. Wear thongs in public showers (for all you who are excited to get back to swimming!) Listen to your body If your legs are constantly tired, achy and heavy, and you don’t necessarily have and increased training routine to explain it, it’s worth looking at your feet and ankles. There might be stiffness, injury, or altered nerve or blood supply that might be affecting your comfort. Osteopaths focus on a wholistic approach to your pain, and we often treat the feet when looking at pain elsewhere in the body

01.01.2022 DON'T FALL INTO A BAD TRAP Are you working at a desk (or dining table) and experiencing pain in your wrist, hand, arm or shoulder? Maybe you need to stop mousing around and look at your desk set up ... Ideally your keyboard & mouse should be 10-25cm from the edge of your desk or table. Your elbows should be approximately horizontal (or slightly higher) than your desk or table. You may need to adjust your seat or your monitor to achieve this If you are on a laptop and expect to be like this for a while, we would suggest considering an external mouse and keyboard, which will also allow you to raise your laptop for an improved ergonomic setup! If you need help with postural pain or ergonomic advice, book in with one of our osteopaths at www.brunswickosteopath.com.au

01.01.2022 Melbournians, enjoy a weekend away. BECAUSE WE CAN! Turn the music up, sing along & drive safe x
