20.01.2022 Sad news over the weekend. Kevin the Kelpie was originally rescued from the Harvey pound by one of our nurses. We are so glad that he has lived an exceptional life with his master Peter and will be cared for in the future. Condolences to Peters family and friends. Peter had a way of lighting up the room whenever he came to the vet and we would always look forward to his and Kevins adventures. We hear there is a calendar out. What a great way to remember Kevins owner. I for one will be buying one in Memory of Frizzy . ( Johanna)

19.01.2022 UNPLEASANT BREATH? When was the last time you brushed your teeth? How about your pets? Can you imagine what our teeth would look like or what our breath would smell like if we didnt brush our teeth daily?... Did you know that 80% of adult pets suffer with dental disease? Dental disease is a common issue diagnosed in adult pets typically more prevalent as they reach their senior years. Prolonged dental disease is not only effecting your pets oral health but their overall health in general. Pets with advanced dental disease are at a higher risk for kidney, heart, liver and pulmonary (lung) disease. Did you know that this nasty problem is also preventable through daily oral health care and even diet? Typical signs of oral health issues are * bad breath * Discoloured teeth * Inflamed gums * Receding gums * Painful when eating * Head shyness * And in worse cases; facial swelling. If you think your pet is showing signs of dental disease it is important that they receive treatment before any irreversible changes occur. Advanced stages of dental disease require a thorough scale, clean and polishing (much like your annual dental scale and clean) and even sometimes tooth extractions. This procedure is carried out under a general anaesthesia. Contact our staff at Brunswick Vet for further enquires and advice we can offer for your pets oral health. DONT FORGET! Ask our staff about our current dental promotion and the discount were offering! Call us on (08) 97261070 and speak to our knowledgeable staff today!

18.01.2022 We are all very sad this morning as our resident clinic cat " Cuddles " has crossed the rainbow bridge. This was her favourite spot sitting on the desk ready to greet the clients for a pat . With her Harley Purr she won over everyone she met , even those who didnt like cats . Cuddles had a hard start to life she was a rescue kitty and almost died as youngster having a severe tracheitis infection. She was tiny and frail but we took her in and treated her and got her better and she lived to a good age of 12 despite her rough beginning. I still remember the day she came in all that time ago. We have many fond memories of our girl which doesnt help our sadness now but can retain with us forever. We are all still in shock as her death was sudden but glad she did not have long standing suffering. RIP Cuddles xx

08.01.2022 Today we are unfortunately announcing the departure of our Head Vet Nurse, Céntaine. Céntaine first began her journey here at Brunswick Vet back in February 2015 as a 17 year old completing work experience as part as her careers program in high school. With her consistent strong work ethic and growth; straight after graduating Year 12 in October 2015, she began her traineeship with the clinic to later become a qualified Veterinary Nurse. Céntaine has upheld indescribable de...dication to our clinic over her time here at Brunswick Vet and we are very sad to see her go but excited for her next chapter in life. We’d like to thank Céntaine greatly for her time over the past 6 years; we share many memories with her and hope her new journey is filled with success, happiness and opportunities.

07.01.2022 These two standard poodles were found running 8km down Sandalwood road . Both chipped but no details avail on our system. Please share to get them home. T I A.

07.01.2022 We often experience miracles in the making and Honey is no exception. Born 4 months ago she was very touch and go for her owner. Having to be bottlefed but many complications arose as her upper palate was not formed correctly. Aspirating her milk we thought she would not make it several times. Defying the odds she has reached her 4 mo milestone. Weighing just over 8 kg. She is but half the size of her siblings but enjoying life to the full. Appropriately named as her owner had given her Honey on the tongue when she was a very weak neonate. We just love her little harness and its moments like these we love It just goes to show persistance and tlc go a long way.

06.01.2022 PUT A SPRING INTO YOUR PETS STEP THIS SPRING At Brunswick Vet this week were promoting senior pet health and well-being. Your best friends health is the most important thing to us and we love to see them happy and thriving. As our furry friends age they develop osteoarthritis (arthritis) and we might become accustomed to seeing some behaviours that we might accept as being normal due to old age. ... However, there are treatments to help them out in their later years to benefit their joint health and mobility. At Brunswick Vet we offer several treatments to help your pets joint health. General signs of Arthritis are: * Chewing/licking of joints * Less active/ reluctant to play * Limping * Difficulty rising * Irritable when touched * Change of behaviour (seems depressed) * Stiffness in walking Any of these signs sound like your furry friend might be suffering from arthritis? Any further questions in regard to senior pet health? Contact our staff at Brunswick Vet on (08) 97261070 to book an appointment!

06.01.2022 WARNING FOR DOG OWNERS The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has recorded further cases of the exotic disease ehrlichi...osis in dogs throughout northern WA. The disease, which was first recorded in the East Kimberley in May, is tick-borne and can be fatal if left untreated. DPIRD chief veterinary officer Michelle Rodan said surveillance had also found four cases in South Hedland as well as one case as far south as Carnarvon. Surveillance is now being targeted to the Pilbara and Gascoyne to determine the distribution of the disease in these areas, she said. Signs of the disease include fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, weight loss and bleeding disorders. Infected dogs do not directly transmit ehrlichiosis to people, however in rare cases, infected ticks may transmit E. canis to people. Visitors to the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne should be aware of the risk to their dogs from ehrlichiosis and should visit their vet for advice on a suitable tick treatment before travelling to the region, Dr Rodan said. Owners in affected areas are encouraged to treat their dogs for ticks regularly, as well as their bedding and the yard and to check their dogs for ticks daily, especially around the neck, head, ears, armpits, belly and in between toes."

02.01.2022 .!!!ATTENTION!!! PARVOVIRUS NOW PRESENT IN BRUNSWICK! In the past month we’ve seen an outbreak of Canine Parvovirus in the South-West. This viral disease is highly contagious and can be fatal. This virus effects unvaccinated dogs gastrointestinal tracts, typically seen in young dogs. ... The most common excuse we hear for people not vaccinating their pet is but my dog doesn’t leave its yard/ doesn’t meet with other dogs. Parvovirus is spread numerous ways: * other dogs * environment * people * faeces This virus is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their faeces. Vaccinating your dog can prevent this disease, but in unvaccinated or dogs not up-to date with their vaccines can easily catch this and mortality rates are very high. What are the signs? Presenting clinical signs are: * lethargy * diarrhoea (usually bloody) * vomiting * loss of appetite and * loss of body condition If the above signs present in your dog, please contact your vet immediately. In the veterinary environment we generally hear the complaints of prices from owners and the price of vaccinating is a typical reason behind not vaccinating pets. However it is important that we expose you to the reality that prevention is better than cure. Your vet fee when treating a dog, fighting for its life with parvovirus can be estimated between $1,500-$5,000. Versus’ a preventative vaccination of roughly $100. With these high fees, it is typical we see owners having to make the heart breaking decision to euthanise their pet due to money concerns. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE VACCINATE YOUR FUR BABIES. This virus is not only a struggle for pet owners to deal with emotionally but also your veterinary team who put their heart and soul into treating your fur baby and making sure they get to return home. goo.gl/ik7yjGzmvCLAtcky7
