24.01.2022 Another thankyou to some local students from Tambo Upper Primary School who held a fund raising stall to raise funds for the Bruthen Fire Brigade. Many of kids live in and around Bruthen and some have parents who are Bruthen Fire Brigade Fire Fighters. Once again a sincere thankyou for your efforts (permission gained for photo to be posted).

19.01.2022 Dear Residents of Bruthen & surrounding districts. As you are no doubt aware there is increased fire danger locally, and with that the need for heightened vigilance for our community. Monday is a particular day of concern (Saturday & Sunday are days to watch also), where the conditions that have been forecast for Monday are adverse. As at the time of publishing this message (Saturday 28 Dec AM), all residents and visitors need to be aware of their surroundings, know their fir...e plan, have their residence prepared if they decide to stay. Once again you need to know YOUR fire plan. The Bruthen Fire Brigades advice is: be aware of developments, listen to radio and monitor Vic emergency website etc); talk to your neighbours, assist them where possible; know what your triggers are for staying or leaving (and if you do, leave early). Make sure you have supplies you need: cars fully fuelled, fuel for pumps and generators, appropriate clothes for any fires on your property you decide to extinguish; and if you are leaving make sure your bags include medications, key documents and other items as you see fit. Finally, this post reiterates the message received yesterday from the emergency messaging system: Dangerous fire conditions in East Gippsland. Fires may spread toward communities. Roads may close. 15.01.2022 EAST GIPPSLAND UPDATE 10.20AM Monday DECEMBER 30 2019 If you are in East Gippsland today, 30 December you need to check VicEmergency for warnings frequently. If... you are currently in an area that is under a warning you must follow the instructions in that warning. If you are in East Gippsland in an area that isn’t under a warning currently you need to move to built up areas, including Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Omeo or Orbost. You must get to a built up area before 11am as the risk of fires moving increases after this time. Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Omeo and Orbost are areas that have been identified as defendable by emergency services. When you arrive you should stay in the centre of town. Follow the instructions of firefighters and emergency services. Do not leave the area until you are told by emergency services that it is safe to do so. If you are in Mallacoota it is critical that you monitor warnings and stay informed. You should follow the instructions of emergency services. Do not wait until a fire starts near you to move to a safer location. Fires that start or run today are likely to grow significantly and may become uncontrollable. Do not rely on firefighting crews being able to protect you and your property. When you move you should take the following items with you: o Cash o Clothing for 3 days o Medicine for 3 days o Phone and chargers o Toiletries o Important documents o Mementos and photos o Pets essentials, including leash and carriers o Make sure you have enough petrol in your car When travelling take care on the roads and drive to the conditions. Smoke from these fires may impact visibility when driving. If you have left ensure you register with Register.Find.Reunite online: register.redcross.org.au East Gippsland fires. This service lets people know you are safe, that you have relocated away from the area, and is used by emergency services if evacuations are required. 14.01.2022 Congratulations to LEUT Ross Herman’s who was presented a NSW Premiers Citation for his duties in the 2019/20 NSW Fires. Ross deployed as a Tanker Crew Leader, along with LEUT Holley Wegmann who deployed in a Forward Command Vehicle. LEUT Wegman will be presented with her citation in the near future. Both members bought great credit to the Bruthen Fire Brigade and CFA. Ross and Holley arrived back in time to then complete another round of torrid fire fighting in defence of the Bruthen township and surrounds with the rest of the Brigade. Well done Ross and Holley.

13.01.2022 Everyone in East Gippsland must be aware of the fire danger forecast for tomorrow and act today. Full info here: https://go.vic.gov.au/JYsnt6 Visitors to East ...Gippsland: If you are visiting East Gippsland you must leave today - Sunday 29 December and stay away on Monday 30 December. You are in danger if you are in the area as follows - in the high country from Omeo to Bonang all the way south through to the coast between east of Bairnsdale to Cann River. If you don’t leave today, road closures are likely to mean you are unable to get home. No one should be in remote forest areas in East Gippsland today and Monday. This includes anyone who is camping, driving, biking or walking in parks or forests. It is not possible to provide support and aid to all the visitors currently in the East Gippsland region. East Gippsland residents: If you live in East Gippsland now is the time to enact your fire plan. Where possible, move animals and livestock to safer locations. You need to move to a safer place, outside of East Gippsland, today as the risk of the fires becoming uncontrollable starts early Monday morning. Stay with friends or family outside the area. Stay very aware of messaging - and if you choose to leave do not delay Do not rely on firefighting crews being able to protect you and your property If you leave -register with Register.Find.Reunite online: register.redcross.org.au East Gippsland fires. People who are in far East Gippsland, including Cann River and Mallacoota, should consider what they will do if the Princes Highway is shut and they are isolated until the road can be reopened.

11.01.2022 Well, it’s almost one year when the below warning was issued at 746pm on the 30th. The Bruthen Fire Brigade, many other local & CFA Brigades and DELWP had actually been battling fires from the 22nd November....and continued to fight fires well into January; as our community and others up the hill came under threat. From our Brigades perspective there were about 17 fire fighters who came to the aid of our and other communities on the night of 30/31 December. As Captain of the... Brigade I can not thank them enough for what they did and achieved. Some defending other peoples houses as theirs burned. For a small core of Fire Fighters you should know at one stage we were at nearly 90 hours of continuous fire fighting. It didn’t seem like it at the time, but on reflection no small feat. For other CFA Brigades, your assistance won’t be forgotten. Since the events of November 2019 through to January 2020 the Bruthen Fire Brigade has had some 16 new members volunteer as Fire Fighters and in Brigade Support roles. This is a great reinvigoration of the Brigade, who once again are ready if called upon. Finally, thank your to the people of Bruthen and surrounding districts for the support you have shown over the past year. In short you are the reason we volunteer. Our thoughts are with all community members who experienced the devastation of the fires in any form. Keep safe and here’s to a bloody good 2021 , onwards and upwards. 04.01.2022 The CFA chief officer has approved the lifting of fire restrictions for East Gippsland Shire at 0100 hours on Monday 16th March. If you are planning to burn off after this time, it is advisable to contact the burn off notification line on 1800 668 511 to register your burn and prevent the fire brigade being called out unnecessarily. Local council bylaws require a permit to burn off in residential areas all year round. If in any doubt, contact East Gippsland Shire prior to burning off.
