25.01.2022 I stole this from another page! But very relevant!
23.01.2022 Word is spreading
23.01.2022 I was recently in a position to visit the Albury Wodonga Woodcrafters Club. They are roughly 35 years old and rumour has it they are one of the largest woodworkers clubs in Australia. They do have the benefit of a shop for members to sell their designs in all year round but their workshop is a little sad size wise. And we at the BRWG are fortunate with our wood stocks! They really were a lovely and welcoming bunch!
22.01.2022 We have been rejoicing this week as the shed resumes its uasual activities. Welcome back all!
21.01.2022 What have people seen for sale that you could make a great deal cheaper and sell cheaper and still make profit? For context of this picture, I can buy an actual set of cricket stumps for $25 and drill some holes in a block of wood and glue them in.... job done!
21.01.2022 Due to increased demand, the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild (Woodies) answered a request to build the second food pantry located outside the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre To read more about the story click on the link below. https://issuu.com/glasshouse//edition_2_september_2020/11
21.01.2022 I personally would like to thank Julie as shed captain today for asking the attending members to down tools and observe a minutes silence at 11am. No photo as I was also busy being silent and still. Thank you to all past and present service men, women and animals that ensure our freedom! Sarah
20.01.2022 With the virus taking full flight, the Woodies have had to shut their doors for the time being! I ask that everyone keeps each other in mind. In these situations loneliness and depression can be a real problem! A simple phone call can go a long way to keeps spirits up. If you have the ability to work from home on your wood projects PLEASE send me photos so that I can post here and keep people interested. Questions you wish to ask the members of this page or discussions youd... like to start. Our club has always been about helping and supporting each other and now more than ever we need to remember each other. If you think of any member that is not on Facebook that may like some contact I am happy to call them for a chat and check in.... that goes for anyone for that matter. Just send me their number! Remember to follow social distancing rules, wash your hands and dont touch your face especially when in public. We will overcome this! We will come out stronger! Best wishes and hugs to all Sarah
19.01.2022 James loves creating these cute bandsaw boxes.he also builds them in multiples so they fit neatly together side by side!
19.01.2022 Keiran finished he second stool that he learnt from Kevs classes! Camphor laurel!
18.01.2022 Brian has been busy creating this table for someone!
18.01.2022 Cheryl asked the Thursday Boys if we could make her a large wooden meat platter, to fit under a large silver domed cover . Terry was nominated to find a nice chunk of Qld Maple that would be large enough. He was able to use the wood-wiz and thickenser to get it down to 31mm in thickness. Kevin kindly used his engineering skills to shape and sand it precisely to Cheryls specification. A nice little income for the club. Pictured Kevin and Cheryl
16.01.2022 The barn door project that was requested to put up when it was finished
16.01.2022 John has been at it again with this beautiful New Guinea Rosewood beside table
15.01.2022 Terry a proud member of our club had the opportunity to donate this carving to the Palmwoods Rural Fire Brigade in recognition of all the work that all fire fighters do to protect our homes and lives, particularly during the last catrostrophic season! Photos show Tony accepting the carving which they will be able to display once the new extension of their shed is completed. Many thanks to all those that give up their time and safety for the community!
14.01.2022 Thank you to those members who turned up yesterday or today to assist with our annual Santa Shop. It has been a huge success. Would love to see a great turn out for tomorrow especially pack up. What a great night! Also special mention to those members who once again donated or offered to donate raffle prizes. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! Well done all!!!!
14.01.2022 Today we held our AGM. Firstly a big thank you to the outgoing committee and all the work they put in over the past year. Please welcome our new committee! Many congratulations to:... President: Max Barrenger Treasurer: Tony Galway V President: Dave Edmond Secretary: John Muller And not to miss out on our newly elected shed managers John Isles and Terry OConnor. Thanks go to all the other members that have also taken on other roles, both large and small! Remember volunteers do not go unpaid because they are worthless, they are unpaid because they are PRICELESS!!!!
12.01.2022 If your are considering becoming a member this really is a great way to start off! In the Woodies first year of operation in 1996, 50 toys were made by the Club and donated to the Salvo's for their Christmas Toy Appeal. This number grew year by year until a couple of years ago the number reached 1000. Unfortunately the ranks of the Toy Boys as they were known have become a little depleted and the number of toys being produced has dropped off considerably and that is why we ar...e appealing for new people to join the exalted ranks of "The Toy Persons". Toymaking is an ideal way for new members, or members who don't have a current project, to learn new skills on Club equipment at no cost and to boost our community involvement. Wednesday is the designated day for Toymaking, however if this day is unsuitable, there is no reason why you can't get information from the group and attend any day to work on the toys. Join the merry band of Santa's Helpers and enjoy creating something that has a big impact on lots of people in our community. Regards The Toy Boys and Girls.

11.01.2022 So this month following our Open Weekend, we have interviewed Digby Milne who won Grand Champion of the show with his chess set. I have included a few photos kindly provided by Digby himself of his past. Sorry some are sideways.... I have no idea how to rotate them! Happy reading! Member profile Digby Milne... 1. How long have you been a member of BRWG and What do you most enjoy about being involved in our club? Been in the Woodies for about 13 years. I enjoy the mateship from most members. 2. What is your preferred form of woodworking? I am versatile. I like cabinetry and scroll sawing most. 3. What was your occupation did you enjoy it why or why not? Banking was difficult but rewarding for the most part. Helping customers reach financial goals was self-satisfying. 4. How do you like to relax? Lying down (Ha Ha). Seriously, I like reading and travelling but I am past long overseas plane trips. 5. What to you is perfect happiness? Helping others and having them appreciate this. 6. In your opinion what is the best piece you have ever made? Tell us about it? I made a Grandfather clock for an Italian couple in Cooma from beautiful red cedar. They wanted it French Polished. It meant I had to build the clock using only screws, then dismantle it and French Polish each part individually and then reassemble. Long but rewarding job which was well appreciated. 7. What music if any do you like? Traditional Jazz and most of the oldies, also classical. 8. If you could have the opportunity again what’s one talent or skill you’d like to develop? Making guitars (Luthiers). 9. What advice would you offer to young people today? Get a good education and learn empathy at an early age. 10. Have you got a life philosophy if so what is it? Keep in mind that there are others besides yourself. It is important to share your knowledge. 11. Is there someone you draw inspiration from? John Muller. He has the same philosophy as in 10. Above. 12. What do you most dislike? Clutter, untidiness, and people who dislike me. 13. Is there a woodwork skill or job you’d like to learn or complete? What is is? Guitar making. I want to attend a course in Gulgong NSW with Gilet Guitars but it is 3 weeks and 6 days per week. Don’t know if my constitution will allow this. It is also $4,200 for the course but you walk away with a guitar that passes Gilet’s standards which are high. This is their guarantee. 1 on 1 tuition. (Open the boarders Anna). 14. Where is your favourite or dream travel destination Tucson Arizona.
