14.01.2022 Today’s consumers, both here and overseas, want to know where their food comes from and that it is safe to eat. To achieve this, effective animal traceability s...ystems are essential. These systems help Western Australia to respond to disease outbreaks, manage food safety and support ongoing market access. DPIRD is proposing to strengthen traceability of poultry in WA by requiring poultry owners to register and obtain a property identification code, as is already required of owners of other livestock species in WA such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. The proposal will not affect backyard chicken owners but will instead apply to owners with 50 or more poultry, 10 emus or ostriches or more, all owners who sell bird meat or eggs, and poultry abattoirs. Poultry includes chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, quail, pheasants, partridges, emus, ostriches and pigeons (such as those kept for racing, breeding, exhibition or competition). To find out more and to have your say on the proposal, visit the consultation website at https://bit.ly/3jGGQfV See more

08.01.2022 Ok. Winter is coming. That means respiratory dramas if your girls are susceptible. Things to consider: 1. Use Snoozle / hemp / torn (not shredded) newspaper in ...nesting boxes. 2. Is your coop clean and poo free? Make sure the air they are breathing is CLEAN. 3. Put apple cider vinegar in their water. 4. Refer to recent posts re anti snot producing sprays. Guys, chickens have the most complicated torturous respiratory systems I have ever seen. If there is a chance they will get sick, theyll take it. Use eucalyptus oil in their coops, Vicks on a face washer hanging inside... If they are sneezing or coughing bring them inside, keep them warm, and do all of the above. Notes above on exceptional veterinary care. See more
