20.01.2022 Bryces Pty Ltd proudly purchased Portman House last week. Portman House offers high quality studio and one bedroom apartments, right in the heart of beautiful rural Scone, Horse Capital of Australia. Subtle improvements will be made over the coming months. Most of you who have liked the Bryces page are personal friends, thank you so much for your support. Portman House has a lot going for it; it is near new with excellent build quality, it has fantastic staff and an envied ...reputation as one of Scone’s best, and it is in a stunning rural town that I have somehow never discovered. What a hidden gem Scone is, it is vibrant and has a sophisticated air with no pretentiousness. The locals are so genuine. The surrounding scenery is inspiring. The Scone area is home to over 100 thoroughbred horse studs including Emirates Park, the Packer family’s Elliston, and John Messara’s Arrowfield, just to name a few - tours of some studs can apparently be arranged in advance via Tourist Information. Scone has wonderful eating options, Kerv is one of my favourites for breakfast, The Cottage (by Colin Selwood of China Doll fame) is an absolute must for an exquisite dining experience, and I also thirst for a beer and hearty pub meal at The Linga Longa Inn - think open fires, cowboy hats and the most down to earth Australians you will ever meet, it’s just ten minutes drive out of town. Belltrees, one of Australia’s most famous rural properties, showcases an enormous 52 room homestead built in 1907; it is a very scenic 30 minute drive on the road to Barrington Tops. There is also a developing Upper Hunter wine region, which I can’t wait to experience. For those that love nature the Scone surrounds have plenty to offer. Incidentally, and unbeknown to me until recently, Scone is home to our wealthiest Australian, her property is next door to Malcolm Turnbull’s. They certainly have taste when it comes to idyllic rural settings. So come on up and treat your soul with a change of pace. The drive is just over three hours north of Hornsby thanks to the new Hunter Expressway. Bryces Pty Ltd also holds a serene ‘edge of town’ parcel of land in Gunnedah with Development Application approval for eight units. This DA will be resubmitted for a greater number of units and these apartments will be strata titled and sold to investors with a healthy leaseback return to be offered. Bryce McDougall
