24.01.2022 Learning to drive starts with calming your mind. Before you start the engine sit for a second or so and prepare mentally for the drive ahead. While driving if you miss you turn or are in the wrong lane, than calmly solve the problem. Some days you just need to use the BLUE lane.

23.01.2022 If your planning on obtaining a automatic licence just look at the errors that are possible to collect during your test if your using a manual car. Remember the test is marked using the same criteria, auto or manual doesn’t matter. One of the biggest issues with changing gear smoothly comes when you try and rush. Changing gear consists of several actions all taken in turn lift off the throttle, depress the clutch, change gear, lift clutch, resume pressure on the throttle.... That sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? And indeed it is. The issue comes, however, when you rush. Whether it be because your mind is elsewhere or you’re nervous at a busy roundabout or intersection, rushing through any of these steps can cause you to start the next step before you’ve finished the current step. That’s not good for your gearbox. So when you rush, you’ll end up not making sure you push the gear smoothly into place, or you’ll start moving the gearstick before you’ve fully engaged the clutch. These types of mistakes make for a grinding, juddering gear change. Take your time, take it step by step, and each change will automatically get smoother. 21.01.2022 I first meant Rebecca about 20 years ago. I was fortunate to have her as part of my Kindy class. Rebecca is the second student I taught at Kindy that I also helped to become a ‘P’ plater. Unlike the first student Rebecca remembered me, mainly because across the years our paths would cross every now and again. As I drove to each of Rebecca’s lessons I would find myself singing the title song from, ‘To Sir with Love’, a song by Lulu, and a particularly the line ‘how to you ...thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume.’ In the movie the high school class isn’t really functioning as a place of learning. Everyone was having fun but not really learning. The new teacher slowly moulds the students into productive young adults by empowering their soul to want to be better, to do better, and become better. Driving and Rebecca weren’t two words that in January this year you would find in the one sentence. After the first few lesson Rebecca became Bec and her driving was getting better. Across the year Bec started to understand what driving was about. And last week Bec gained the privilege of been able to drive on the public roads by herself. Bec is a thinker and needed to understand. When Bec drives now she drives with understand. Thank you Bec for allowing me to be apart of your amazing young life. What I will remember the most about Bec are her serious eyes when she is thinking and her great wonderful laugh and smile when the penny drops and understand takes hold. 19.01.2022 Number 4 in our series about the Practical Driving Test. I had to split it across 2 posts because there is a lot of information. And when the Department has a lot of information there is usually a lot of corresponding errors. I love driving a manual car, it is a highly satisfying experience. But learning a manual can be jarring affair, if you happen to get it wrong. All sorts of unfortunate noises can come for the car screaming engine, grinding gears, and much more be...sides. Learning with B Safe can help to take the JARRING out of the equation. Changing gears smoothly is also essential for the longevity of the car (And my back) and passing the test. Another foundation skill after steering if your learning the manual is gear changing and clutch control. The basic rule for changing the gears is as your speed increases so does the gear and as the speed decreases so the gears move down. The gears determine the amount of power available from the engine. 19.01.2022 Yesterday I was listen to Jay Shetty talk to Rich Roll. One thing Rich said really stuck in my mind. It’s a parent’s job to love their child, but it isn’t a child job to love a parent. All to often I have students come to me get ready for the test. The trouble is the child has spent up to 100 hours practising what the parent has taught them. Before teaching someone find out what to teach. At B Safe parents are always welcome to join a lesson and learn about teaching ...techniques and maybe even some of the road rules. In the end Jessica almost had a faultless drive except for the one thing she assured me wouldn’t be a problem. Her husband made the same error on his test and there was no way she was going to do something so simple and silly. 08.01.2022 My first lesson today was a young man who took the first steps to learning to drive with Mum. And today was his 3rd lesson with me. He is a very nervous driver. Today was not his best drive. For what ever reason he just wasn’t on the task today. His timing was off and this helped his nervousness grow. I don’t judge but I try to understand. The planed lessons was quickly modified to enable Matt to have a positive learning experience. A great effort by an incredible young lady who in her spare times likes to row and keep fit. One day I was explaining how hard I found rowing when at the gym. The hardest 2 minutes of my life, I said. Without big noting her self Grace simply explained to get on the rowing team she had to row on a rowing machine for 30 minutes.
