25.01.2022 Did God created men and women equal?

25.01.2022 Lesson 3 - Genesis Chapter 3 Death. How did it enter the perfect world God initially created? This week God reveals to us the devastating consequences of sin, which resulted in three types of death. We see Eve’s momentary pleasure bringing a lasting horrible judgement - death to all mankind. Adam and Eve’s choice to trust in the devil’s word over God’s Word results in Spiritual death, Physical death and Eternal death. Doubting God’s goodness gives sin a foothold in our heart...s. Sin damages our relationship with our Lord God. Thankfully the story does not end here - it does not merely stop with the consequences of sin. We see God, the loving Father and Creator, in Genesis 3:15 prophesying of the Messiah who will come to save people from sin and death. We see the Lord God making and clothing Adam and Eve in garments of skin, pointing to the truth that it takes the life of another to pay the penalty for sin. What temptation are you currently struggling with? Are you doubting God’s goodness in the midst of your struggle? Will you commit to coming before God in prayer and lifting up your struggles and desires into His hands, for His will to be done in your life? Over to you! . . . #wearebsf #wearebsfya #biblestudy #wearestillbsf #bsfinternational #beginnings #genesis2020 #sydneychristians #bsfsydneyya #bsfsydneyu40 #biblestudyfellowshipinternational #adamandeve #jesusmessiah

24.01.2022 Hi BSFers, We trust you and your family are well. Recently, we have received some warnings on the emerging activities by people who specifically target young people at train stations or by leaving a message on your private social media account. ... These people claim to be Christians. They will introduce themselves and tell you where they found your name (usually through the social media account of your church group or BSF or other Christian groups which you are a part of). They would ask you to explain your faith or your understanding of Christmas or even simply asking you to be a part of their Bible Study group. They seem friendly and their requests to connect might seem harmless. However, their actual objective is to drag you into their circle and lead you astray. If someone you do not know approach you at train stations or try to strike any conversation with you, either personally or through your social media account, please ignore them and do not engage. Let your friends know about this and tell them to be careful.

23.01.2022 Genesis 1:1-25 Just like the other parts of Scriptures, Genesis was written with the intention for mankind to have a right understanding of God. Without the right understanding of God, it is easy to draw wrong conclusions about Him. Genesis 1:1 tells us that there was God and He was already there even before the beginning. This beginning was not God’s beginning because God is self-existing and self-sustaining, He has always been and He will forever be.... By His great and unfathomable power, God created the heavens and the earth from nothing. He spoke and everything came to be as He intended. In His great love for mankind, God did not just systematically created all things but also filled them with all the essential things that will help mankind not to just survive but to flourish. In this week’s passage, God saw all that He created was good and because of that, we can trust Him that He is the Originator of all good things. Although our world is going through some challenging time in facing COVID-19, we can trust in God that nothing is impossible for Him because of this creation story. There is no hopeless situation and there is no darkness into which the Word of God cannot speak to bring light and life. From this lesson, we see that God, who is the creation’s Originator and Sustainer is worthy to be exalted above all and to rule over all. Now that Scripture has revealed to us who God is, His eternal wisdom, goodness and power, will you trust God and invite Him into your life to help you navigate your circumstances? Over to you! . . . . . #wearebsf #bsfinternational #biblestudyfellowshipinternational #wearestillbsf #genesis2020 #inthebeginninggod #beginnings2020 #bsfsydneyya #bsfsydneyu40 #sydneychristians #youthforjesus #sydneyforjesus #youthforchrist #

20.01.2022 Lesson 4 - Genesis 4 After establishing Adam and Eve as husband and wife, God brought about the birth of Cain and Abel. Scripture reveals both Cain and Abel made an offering to the Lord but God looked with favour on Abel and his offering but on Cain and his offering He did not look with favour. Why? Abel presented a better offering to God by faith (Heb 11:4), a key ingredient missing in Cain’s offering.... Because of this, Cain was very angry but God lovingly confronted him, questioning the reason for his anger, assuring him of His acceptance if Cain would do what is right. At the same time God warned him of the proximity and the danger of sin should he continued on the path he was heading. Cain was indifferent to God’s warning and murdered Abel. He was neither remorseful nor repentant and so God punished him with a curse, driving him out as a restless wanderer. Cain’s failure to repent in spite of God’s grace and mercy had moved godlessness forward, causing sin and its impact to spread to generations well beyond his time. In the time when sin and godlessness spread, a beacon of light shone through Seth’s firstborn Enosh, where he and his generation began to call on God. It is from this line that the promised Redeemer would come, crushing the head of the serpent, bringing light and life into the world. We learn from this passage: 1. Sin spreads when God is ignored. 2. Sin spreads when God is absent. 3. Sin spreads but God has the final word. The present world as we know it is a dark and challenging place to live. Will we move our faith forward in response to the godlessness and show this world the living hope we have in Jesus by calling on Him? Will we take up this challenge and embrace the cause of Christ in this world? 19.01.2022 Genesis contains stories of beginnings. It tells us of beginnings of heaven & earth, mankind, sin, God’s promise of Redemption and the people whom God’s redemption was to come from. Genesis is personal and it is filled with revelations of God’s personality, God’s plan, God’s promises and God’s people. Genesis is God’s story and it is also our story. In order to know God, we need to know His story. Genesis tells us the how & why God brought everything especially mankind into b...eing... It tells of the good, the bad and the ugly. Mankind chose to rebel against God and disobey Him and as a result set in motion all the sin & suffering in the world that history has since encountered. Instead of destroying the world, God chose to redeem it and since Genesis we can see clearly that despite human failures, God’s sovereign purpose will prevail. Despite our sin, God gives us the gift of redemption through faith in His Son, Jesus... a new birth, a new beginning. We are embarking on the journey from the beginnings so we can know what God has in store for us. The one question that remain is do you want to find out? 18.01.2022 Important things to consider!

16.01.2022 We are starting tonight!

15.01.2022 Lesson 2 - Genesis 1:26-2:25 Where did we come from? We find the answer to this question in our passage this week - God is the source and giver of human life. Human beings were the pinnacle of God’s creation, made by God in His image and likeness. To be created in God’s image means that we were made to reflect God’s glory. We reflect Him in many different areas we share some of His capacities in how we function; we are able to reason and think logically and rationally; we ...have the ability to communicate with words. We are His representatives on this earth, gifted with creativity, and the ability to work and to look after this world that God created. This also means that we were made with the ability to relate to God. And indeed, the ultimate human experience is a relationship with God. Meaning and joy are found in knowing and loving our Creator God. So where do you find your worth and purpose? Will you look to God and see that every human life, created in His image, finds its worth and purpose in Him? Over to you! . . . . . #wearebsf #wearebsfya #biblestudy #wearestillbsf #bsfinternational #beginnings #genesis2 #sydneychristians #bsfsydneyya #bsfsydneyu40 #biblestudyfellowshipinternational

15.01.2022 Lesson 8 - Genesis Chapter 11:10-12:20 Migrants throughout history have been called to countries all over the world, lured by a promise of a new and better life. Australia remains one of the most popular destination for migrants because a new life in this country comes with a promise of a great healthcare system, education, safety and lifestyle. As we look at Genesis Chapter 11:10-12:20, we see God telling Abram to leave his country, leave his people and to go to the la...nd where God will show him. Abram, in faith, obeys God and leaves Ur of the Chaldeans to start a new life in Canaan. God tells Abram He will make of him a great nation, bless him, make his name great, so that he will be a blessing to all the families of the earth shall. The fulfilment of this blessing is through our Lord Jesus Christ. It was God who awakened faith within Abram that enabled his obedience. God regenerates our hearts, allowing faith and obedience to grow. Only God can supply the power to believe the Gospel and live a redeemed life. Abram’s venture into Egypt reflected someone, who under pressure, made a decision based on circumstance rather than the character of God. Abram’s half-truth not only put himself but also his wife Sarai in danger. God in His mercy divinely protected Abram and Sarai, and thus preserved the Messianic line. God uses this situation to grow Abram’s faith and dependence on Him. In which areas of your life God calling you into a new life with Him? How does this passage encourage you to depend more on God? 14.01.2022 Lesson 9 Genesis 13-14 What does it look like to live in God’s grace? Grace is God’s favour and kindness to the utterly undeserving, and we see an example of this in the life of Abram. In last week’s lesson, Abram disobeyed God in going to Egypt and lying about his wife Sarai, acting in fear rather than obedience to God. Yet in chapter 13, God graciously restored Abram, bringing him back to Canaan, along with Sarai and his nephew Lot. Here in the land, Abram called on the... name of the Lord. As a recipient of God’s grace, Abram was prepared to extend this grace to Lot. When quarrelling arose between their herdsmen, they parted ways, Abram graciously allowing Lot to choose a place to settle first. God reassured Abram afterwards of His promise to give him the land as far as he could see. When Lot was later captured in warfare among the kings in the Jordan valley, Abram himself set out to rescue him, at personal cost to himself, and the Lord gave Abram victory. Following this success, Melchizedek, king of Salem, came out to meet Abram, pronouncing blessing and giving glory to God, and Abram offered him a tithe. The king of Sodom also came to meet Abram, offering rewards, but Abram turned these down, knowing all he had was because of God’s grace. Abram’s response was one of thanksgiving and worship to God. Today, God’s grace is given to us, too. Living in grace enables us to extend grace to others and to glorify God. So how have you experienced God’s grace in your life? And how will you allow this to shape your interactions with others, and your response to God? 14.01.2022 Lesson 6 - Genesis Chapter 8-9:17 There are many ways of saying I Promise. Some of the more commonly used ones include Trust Me. Believe Me. I Swear. I Give You My Word. I Vow. These phrases and their synonyms are something we either hear regularly or may even say regularly ourselves. How often have we placed our trust in the words of others and been let down? How often have we made promises only to let others down? We see God fulfilling His promises to Noah. God makes a... new promise with Noah, his descendants and all the creatures of the earth. And we see not only God’s faithfulness to His promises, but we also see Noah’s faith in God. Theologians calculated that Noah was in the ark for approximately 370 days. Noah was only told how long it would rain for. He was not told when he would be allowed to exit the ark. The time between Noah seeing the surface of the ground was dry to God telling Noah to exit the ark was approximately 2 months. In faith Noah patiently waited on God’s timing and instructions. Noah put his faith in a trustworthy God, who smelled the pleasing aroma of a contrite heart, and in His heart promised to never again curse the ground or strike down every living creature as he has done. God seals this covenant by putting a rainbow in the clouds. Every time we see a rainbow it reminds us of a trustworthy God who keeps His promises. What are you placing your faith and confidence in? How is God using this passage to encourage you to begin building that altar of faith in your heart for Him? 12.01.2022 What Genesis is not... that you need to know.

12.01.2022 Lesson 11 Genesis 17:1-18:15 Thirteen years had passed since the birth of Ishmael, and Abram was ninety-nine years old when the Lord appeared to him again, confirming His covenant to make Abram exceedingly fruitful. But the power of a promise lies in the one who makes it, so God first revealed Himself as God Almighty, El Shaddai, for Whom nothing is impossible. He then gave Abram a new name, Abraham, reaffirming His promise to make him the father of many, including kings. ... God’s covenant would be everlasting, He would give them the land of Canaan, and He would be their God. He gave Abraham circumcision as the sign to mark this covenant. Abraham’s wife, Sarai, was also given a new name, Sarah, and God assured Abraham their descendants would come through his and Sarah’s own son, to be called Isaac. Though Abraham laughed, he soon realised that because of who God is, His promises can be believed. Not long after, three heavenly visitors came to visit Abraham, one of them being the Lord Himself. After Abraham welcomed them with eager hospitality, the Lord repeated the promise of a son, this time for Sarah to hear. When Sarah laughed quietly to herself in disbelief, the Lord questioned her, revealing that He is the omniscient God who knows all things, even our hidden thoughts. God declared Himself to be the all-powerful God, for Whom nothing too hard, including giving Sarah a son. God’s rebuke of Sarah was to lead her from doubts to belief in His promises. So how will the certainty of God's promises shape the way you view and respond to your present circumstances? Instead of listening to your doubts, will you accept God’s invitation to trust His Word, even in the seemingly impossible situations? 11.01.2022 Lesson 12 - Genesis Chapter 18:16-19:38 Here we see God revealing His great plans for Abraham to become a mighty nation and to lead his children and household to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice. God revealed to Abraham the wickedness of the city of Sodom and Gomorrah and His intentions to personally go down and verify this. God identified this as an opportunity to grow Abraham’s faith in Him and to understand His judgement of sin is righteous, jus...t and merciful. Abraham, out of compassion, interceded for the city of Sodom and whilst this did not change God’s mind, it did change Abraham’s perspective. Abraham’s revelation of God’s character gave him the peace to fully trust in God’s judgement. In contrast, Lot’s life was filled with compromise to the point where he was no longer an effective witness for God to both his own family and those around him. Lot knew of the wickedness in Sodom, yet time after time made the choice to return to live there. 2 Peter 2:5-11 that Lot is righteous because of his belief in God. But sadly as a believer, Lot’s life was one wasted through poor choices. God wrath rains down sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, reducing them to nothing but thick black smoke. God’s wrath reflects His holy desire and action for justice and righteousness to prevail. God is a Holy God who cannot and will not tolerate sin. Romans 6:23 tells us For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. God knows that unless He himself pays for the penalty of our sins, we would be destined for eternal death. God’s wrath works in perfect harmony with His patience and mercy. God does not compromise on one of His attributes to exercise another. In this passage, God’s mercy is reflected in the way He spared Lot’s family from the sulfur and fire. In our lives, God’s mercy is reflected through His son Jesus Christ, who bore our sins on the cross and died the death we deserved. How does this week passage move you to urgently intercede for those who have not accepted God as Lord and Saviour? Who is God placing in your heart to share the joys of living under His mercy?

11.01.2022 As we are counting down to the beginning of the beginnings, let us look forward to the study of Genesis with great anticipation that God will reveal Himself through His Word. 09.01.2022 Which pattern do you choose? You can choose the pattern but you cannot choose the outcome of that pattern.

08.01.2022 Genesis 9:18 11:9 As Christians, we know God is sovereign, but do we know what it really means? God’s sovereignty is defined as God having supremacy in power, status, dominion and authority over all things including the human will. God’s sovereignty has no boundary, no limit and no end. Nothing surprises Him, nothing is beyond Him, nothing is outside His control. In fact, the ultimate end of many thoughts and plans of man lies within the boundary of God’s sovereign purpose ...and will. After the flood, mankind began to re-engage themselves with sin, both individually and collectively. Noah got drunk; Ham dishonoured his father. Nimrod was a rebel in the face of God. Finally, a collective rebellion took place when all people gathered at Shinar against God’s command, building for themselves a city and a tower so they could make a name for themselves and stayed together. God saw their prideful rebellion and sovereignly confused their languages, scattering them over the face of the earth as how He originally intended. Since the beginning, rebellion against God has always been the root of all humanity’s failure. Yet, God sovereignly works through humanity’s failure to accomplish His purpose and will. God keeps all His promises, bringing Jesus into the world to atone for their sins, so that through His Son, He might justify all who believe, redeeming them from their failures. In all things God also sovereignly works in every situation for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. One question remains: Do you love Him? If you do, this promise is for you. 02.01.2022 Genesis 15-16 God appeared to Abram in a vision, assuring him of God’s protection and reward. God promised Abram would have a son and He would cause his descendants to be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Abram believed God and He credited Abram righteous. God also entered into a covenant with Abram, promising that his descendants will take possession of Canaan after 400 years in slavery. Why? God was merciful to the Amorites, giving them 400 years to repent despite knowin...g they would not. Sarai’s imperfect understanding of God led to a flawed decision in order to expedite the fulfilment of God’s promise. Using human logic, they devised and implemented a logical, socially acceptable method that resulted in sin, conflicts and lasting consequences. As Hagar fled, God met and instructed her to return and submit to Sarai as her slave. Referring to Hagar as Sarai’s slave, God made it clear that it is through Sarai that God’s promise would be fulfilled. We must never assume what is considered legal or acceptable in our society is acceptable to God. Scripture must always be the anchor of every Christians’ perspective. Despite human’s faults and failures, God displays His unchanging faithfulness to His word and His people. God’s faithfulness does not discriminate. He addressed Abram’s fear and Hagar’s concerns and kept all His promises to them. God’s promises must be fulfilled in God’s time, in God’s way, by God’s power and for God’s glory. Therefore, Christians must learn to wait on Him. While He sees our deepest desires, He knows our greatest needs is salvation through His Son, Jesus. Only through Jesus, we are justified, made righteous and are saved. God is loving, gracious and merciful. We can always trust Him and depend on Him. He is faithful to His Word and His people. 01.01.2022 Life in our world of beautiful landscapes and breathtaking sunsets leaves us wanting because of sin. Relationships are hard. Work is hard. Even understanding ourselves is hard. But praise God that His Gospel paves hope over the hopelessness of sin!

01.01.2022 Lesson 5 - Genesis 5-7 How do you respond to warnings? Do you heed them, or do you continue on your own way? In this week’s lesson, God warns humanity of the consequences of sin. We begin with a record of Adam’s descendants through Seth, showing us the penalty for sin as each line concludes with, and then he died. But even with sin in the world, God did not leave humanity without a witness to Himself. From Seth’s line came godly examples such as Enoch, who walked with God.... Generations later came Noah, born into a world of wickedness and evil. Though given the chance to turn from sin, humanity was now full of corruption and violence. And this deeply grieved God’s heart. Noah, however, found favour in the eyes of the Lord not because he was sinless, but because he loved, obeyed, and walked faithfully with God. God told Noah that judgment for sin would come in a great flood that would destroy all living beings. But for Noah and his family, along with two pairs of each kind of animal, God instructed Noah to build an ark. And when the flood finally came, God brought Noah and his family and the animals into the ark, and Himself shut the door. In the flood, every living being perished, but Noah and those in the ark were safe. In the events of the flood, we see a warning. God judges sin, and the penalty for sin is death. However, in the flood we also see a picture of refuge and safety the ark and its inhabitants, kept safe from the flood and storm. Today, God is still grieved by sin and death. And God still provides a way of escape from judgment, through His Son Jesus Christ, with the invitation to find refuge in Jesus open to everyone. So what might be stopping you from turning to Jesus as your eternal refuge? And how does the knowledge that God extends grace move you to run to Him, and tell others about Him?
