23.01.2022 Do you need to change cloth overnight? Night nappies can be really daunting. Often people who cloth during the day are wanting to take the next step to reusable overnight nappies and are unsure when to start. One key thing that will tell you its time to consider bedtime fluff bums is when your babe stops pooing through the night. In those early newborn days, its hardly worth moving into purpose night nappies when youre changing at just about every feed ... Once baby stops those night time poops, you can consider night cloth. And that doesnt mean baby has to be sleeping through the night!! Just because your babe wakes for a feed doesnt mean they need changing, if its just a wee. What you do need is absorbency that will last the 12+ hours a nappy is on through the night. We talk more about creating your own night nappy with things you may already have on hand in our blog below: https://www.bubblebubs.com.au//night-nappies-the-final-fr/ So is it ok to leave a nappy on that long? 12 hours, maybe more? Absolutely! As long as you have absorbency then there shouldnt be any issues. Something you may like to consider is a stay dry layer so that bubs doesnt feel the wet, but you know your baby best and if this is necessary. One final thing to note is the wash routine for a night nappy. Any nappy that has been on longer than 6 hours should really be treated the same as a night nappy to prevent ammonia damage. All you need to do is give your night nappy a good hot hand wash with detergent before popping it in with your pre-wash. Or if youre washing in 60 degrees for your pre-wash and its not too long after the night nappy comes off, just throw it in the pre-wash as you would any other nappy. You can watch Jennas night nappy routine here: https://www.bubblebubs.com.au//publish-30-1-2019-rinsing-/ As always, were here to help you get started. Just open a conversation in Facebook Messenger to chat with our Cloth Nappy Support Specialists. Sweet dreams

18.01.2022 Wanting to get brave and use cloth for day trips? Its not exactly anyones favourite task, but dont let a cloth nappy change on the go scare you. There are plenty of ways to make it a simple and manageable job which will have you wondering what all the fuss was about in the first place. Firstly, lets talk poo disposal; probably the most daunting part of the whole nappy changing scenario. If youre in a parent room with a toilet or a disabled toilet with a change table, si...mply roll the offending nugget into the loo before you pack away the dirty nap. One way to make this more simple is to use liners. Disposable liners can be laid inside the nappy and any solids rolled off before throwing the liner into the bins provided, or for breastfed poo, just disposing of everything in one go. Another option is to use reusable liners, these can be stored with the nappy after rolling off the solids or left in place if youre dealing with a loose movement. If youre using cloth wipes, or any wipes for that matter, another option is to lay the wipe in the nappy, against the insert, to keep any mess from getting on to the shell when rolling or snapping it back up. This can then be thrown in with the nappy wash, or disposed of once youre home. If youre in an area without the convenience of a toilet, or when youve disposed of any removable nuggets, just snap your nappy back up to contain anything that remains. Its really *that* easy. And once youve dealt with it a few times, or like me, you have a bub who literally soils herself every time you put her in the car seat(!) you just kinda get used to it. 14.01.2022 Anyone getting leeks from their nappies?

13.01.2022 This is Vickis local state member, Jess Pugh, and the state treasurer for Queensland. Jess is already quite a cloth nappy advocate but Vicki still managed to blow the mind and plant some seeds in the treasurers mind about cloth nappies! How amazing that the people who are in charge are beginning to think of ways to support cloth use! While being a business woman and a mum can be a tough gig, this makes it all worth it. Lets hope that well be talking in State Parliament... soon about some incentives to get more parents on board with cloth! In the meantime, vote people- VOTE! You dont have to be in the Mount Ommaney electorate and Bubblebubs would really love your support. It feels like all the work and sacrifices made for 17years is paying off. So, VOTE for cloth, send a message to Parliament to #makeclothmainstream. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/smallbizawards!

13.01.2022 PUL or Minky?? You may have noticed that cloth nappies come in a variety of prints, but wondered why some come in PUL and some in a fluffy minky fabric. Well, well let you in on a little secret. Minky actually is PUL! It has a fluffy exterior, but the same waterproof qualities. Its important to note that all PUL is only waterproof to an extent. The holes in PUL are so small that water molecules cant penetrate it, but if it is left with liquid (wee) against it for any... great length of time, for example, a fully soaked insert, you will find that the exterior of the nappy can become damp. PUL, or PolyUrethane Laminate, is a lightweight poly-fabric that is then laminated with a polyurethane film. Its just that the fabric used for a PUL nappy is usually a smooth knit, and for minky is a more snuggly fabric. So it really just comes down to personal preference. Both are waterproof. Both are quick drying. Both are a great option to love as it means a greater range of prints to enjoy. A mixed stash offers the best of both worlds! Our PUL and minky prints are now available for preorder, so why not try both? https://www.bubblebubs.com.au/limited-edition.html

11.01.2022 Out wet. Out play. Outlast: How to know when to boost One of the most common queries we see in the cloth nappy world is about leaks and how to avoid them. While there are several possible causes, one of them is absorbency. Or the need for more of it. ... A good way to determine if its a fit issue or an out wetting issue is to check the insert. If the insert isnt completely soaked, then its likely that you need to look more closely at your fit. Also keep in mind that if youre noticing more wetness than usual, you may need to think about your frequency of changes and when youre changing. As they get older, babies can often wake up from a sleep and let go of a big wee theyve been holding on to, or they might just start holding and flooding throughout the day. This might mean a nappy will last 20 minutes, rather than 2-3 hours of smaller trickles. If the insert is soaked through from front to back, its boosting youre going to need. There are so many ways to add extra absorbency. Some mcns, like our all-in-2 Candie, come with an additional booster, some nappies dont. This is where you can start to get creative, especially if youre using flats or prefolds. Pretty much anything that you can fit in a nappy can be used as a booster: face washers, tea towels, muslins, dads old t-shirts. Opt for natural fibres which arent prone to compression leaks like microfibre can be. Try and concentrate the booster in the wet zone so that there are more layers where baby is going to wet first rather than at the back. See Vicki boost a newborn Bambam so you can get longer out of these ingenious little nappies.

11.01.2022 Weve been nominated in the Mount Ommaney Small Business Awards! Wed love your support to showcase cloth and get more families into reusables. Voting is through the link below

11.01.2022 Microfibre vs microfleece. Whats the difference? You may have come across these terms while trawling the nappy scene for information. Two micros that sound so similar but are very different in terms of function. Microfibre is a completely synthetic insert. Some nappies come with these as standard and can often lead to new cloth families wondering whats going wrong when they get leaks. Whilst it does have its uses, microfibre is much like a sponge. It can only hold so much ...and thats why you get compression leaks. Baby is putting pressure on the insert and the liquid is squeezed out like a sponge. Microfibre is great for wicking away moisture quickly, but for this reason it cannot go against babys skin. It is very drying and usually needs to go inside a pocket. Pair it with a natural fabric for absorbency. Microfleece, on the other hand, is a very thin synthetic fabric that many cloth families use as reusable liners. Microfleece has no absorbency, its primary role in a nappy is as a stay dry layer that can be lifted out and theoretically roll poo off - disclaimer, using a liner does *not* guarantee ploppable poops, sorry! As it functions as a stay-dry layer it should go against Bubs skin to keep it nice and dry. If youre still wondering about fabrics and what is best, read our blog that investigates the best fabric for a cloth nappy https://www.bubblebubs.com.au//whats-the-best-fabric-for-/

10.01.2022 Using a dryer for cloth nappies? With winter hanging around, lots of families have turned to the tumble dryer to rotate their stash more quickly. But how do you safely use the dryer and ensure you dont damage your nappies? Firstly, anything that isnt made of PUL or doesnt have elastics can be thrown in a tumble dryer at pretty much any temperature and theyll be fine. So inserts that are thick and absorbent can be turned around in no time when using the dryer. As shells dr...y more quickly you can often get away with just hanging them on a clothes horse overnight. No need to tumble. If you desperately need to tumble dry anything elasticated or containing PUL it definitely is possible. Just pop shells in on a very low heat and be careful not to stretch the elastics until they have completely cooled. What if you dont have a dryer? Leaving your clothes horse under a fan or air conditioner (on fan if you dont have a heat option) can be a good way to dry your nappies in the cooler months. Orrrr, you could just buy more nappies to make it through the week, right?
