24.01.2022 Breastfeeding has been one of the biggest challenges of my motherhood journey so far. Sure, it's beautiful (mind blowing, even) that a woman's body can feed her... little one, but it's also like volunteering to squeeze your nipples into a tiny, adorable blender every 3 hours for months on end. This is part of the online series I did with Bupa Australia for new mamas and mums-to-be with brilliant midwife and lactation consultant Jess Krigstein from Bub Culture as well as expert child-growers Kangaroo Spotting and Fat Mum Slim. Their advice has been invaluable to me - please tag or share with anyone who's about to sacrifice their rack to the baby gods. Thanks for dressing me Ripe Maternity and for the beautiful hair and makeup GlindaWand x See more

22.01.2022 A heartbreaking reminder of the important reason to vaccinate your family in order to protect those too young. https://www.facebook.com/7NewsAustralia/posts/1765821243428061
22.01.2022 Becoming a mother is so exciting and even in the midst of a pandemic there is still so much beauty. We are living through a period in time that no pregnant woman would have expected. So many questions are needing to be asked and with much uncertainty long term plans are difficult. It’s a lot to ask of a new family who is expecting to celebrate amongst friends and family and to instead stay inside. However, there is still plenty of beauty for parents and their baby. I have be...en thinking a lot about the benefits of confinement that we need to embrace. Interestingly in countries such as Asia, a popular tradition is for the birthing woman to stay at home but be looked after by her extended family. I have always liked this idea as it shifts the priority to the mother’s recovery and bond with her new baby. An idea that has been a little distant to many stuck in a culture of returning to a work force and fitting into the person they once were. Being forced to stay in means: - More time to bond and learn about your new bub. With distractions lessened you can now get to know your new baby, making it so much easier to read their cues for sleep and feeds. This knowledge can lead to a more settled baby. - You might actually get the opportunity to rest when your baby does. - While everyone else might be paying attention to the news and panicking you can just stay in and cuddle. Let your hormonal self be entirely selfish and focus on your growing family. - You have no excuse now. You must take photos and start your baby book/journal/photo book! - Your partner is likely to be home now so take advantage and share more of the load. You can both become masters of wrapping and settling and even drinking coffee with one hand! - I would still recommend showering every morning and getting dressed even though you have nowhere to be. Wash away a bad night and start fresh. - Don’t worry about a schedule and remember your baby won’t have a problem with whatever you like to watch on TV I am hearing so many comments from patients at the hospital in recent weeks stating how nice it actually is to be forced to not have visitors. The surprising upside is met with a calmness on the ward as parents are forced to rest when their baby does. Babies are being fed when they are hungry and not when it is convenient. Hormones are flowing, breasts are filling, mums and babies are sleeping in unison. People aren’t rushing home early which I think is proving how nice it is for women, partners and babies to have the time to bunker in and bond. Don’t be nervous of this change. Your midwife and or obstetrician are still here for you. Jess Krigstein R.N, R.M, IBCLC.
22.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/natalia.vr/posts/10154070966452255 A very interesting explanation on how a mother's brain changes. I do wonder if the brain ever goes back or if the changes are permanent?
18.01.2022 It's not just about improving your lifestyle and thinking about what your bub will need. Studies are proving that a pregnant woman is already making an imprint on her baby's memory by simply listening to music and reading aloud. So this weekend go out with your partner to your favourite book store and choose a tale that you'll both enjoy reading to your little one. Think about the music you like listening to and what you'll want your bub to enjoy! Parenthood has begun so th...ink about the environment you are setting your bub to be born into! https://www.google.com.au//shaping-the-fetal-brain-ev/amp/
