17.01.2022 Now, how did we miss this story about one of our own? Euan Beamont (Energy Farmers Australia) and his partner Tom Vogan, have been on a long journey through technology development and biochar usage in horticulture and broadacre systems.

17.01.2022 Merino sheep have been shown to boost gross margins by $100/ha/year, with results from a nine-year trial on SA's Eyre Peninsula showing that using Merinos in a ...cropping rotation helped boost nitrogen cycling & water use efficiency, reduced weed and pest populations & had no negative effects on cereal performance. 16.01.2022 Enough of the farmer bashing! Nobody condones what happened to the sheep onboard the Awassi Express in August 2017. Not the farmers, not their families, not th...e truckies, not the stockmen, not the vets, not the exporters. Nobody! Rather than just blindly accepting what you read or hear about what happened, please try to inform yourself of the truth before yelling for an industry to be shutdown. I can tell you from considerable experience over nearly 3 decades in the industry that what happened is not reflective of what happens on a daily basis. Just because Animals Australia or the RSPCA say in their advertising (below) that that is the case doesn’t make it true. The reality is that the deaths weren’t caused because of negligence, cruelty, carelessness or greed, but instead by an extreme hot weather event that nobody could foresee 3 weeks earlier. Other vessels and exporters had delivered livestock during that same summer period in the Northern hemisphere without incident. In 2017, more than 3 million sheep, cattle and goats were exported from Australia to nearly 800 separate destinations with only one of those experiencing a serious mortality event. Many of them experienced zero mortality. The mortality rate for live export sheep is 0.7% and is reducing each year because of the investments by the industry and the employment of professional stockmen and Vets that care. The mortality rate for cattle is 0.1% and is also reducing each year. The vast majority of voyages are boring and mundane, delivering fat healthy sheep and cattle to countries that value our livestock. Those countries also need to have confidence that a comparatively cheap and reliable food supply will continue. WA farmers rely on the live sheep export trade as nearly 90% of the sheep are supplied from here. Don’t believe for 1 minute that the farming industry can easily transition from live export to box meat. If that was the case it would be happening now, but the reality is that live exports and box meat supply two very seperate markets. One will not replace the other and their is ample evidence to show this. People and Politicians that say that this can happen are ill-informed and do not know the fundamental dynamics of the industry and are driven by their own personal ideologies or the need to grab a few extra votes. The Australian government and the Ag industry have invested millions in better welfare in Australia, onboard vessels and at overseas facilities and it is delivering better animal welfare results without doubt. Not just for Australian livestock but also for the millions of additional livestock from other nations that are now slaughtered in those facilities. The end of the live sheep exports from WA will undoubtedly mean an end to sheep production in WA for many farmers and have a detrimental effect on their viability and that of some regional communities. Ask questions before blindly accepting what is regurgitated by animal activist groups like Animals Australia that have a hidden agenda of bringing an end to the farming and consumption of all animals, not just exports. 15.01.2022 SHEEP SHEARERS NEEDED A boom in the demand for wool means more shearers are needed. Wool Producers Australia CEO Jo Hall said work is being done with shearing contractors to improve standards in the sheds to make the job more attractive to young people.

14.01.2022 FAQ Why can't chilled meat replace live export? Providing chilled meat will not replace live exports. The supply of sheep and chilled or frozen meat often cater...s to distinct markets that are not interchangeable. Australian sheep are in demand due to logistical difficulties in delivering and storing meat (in some markets), cultural preferences and its price. Strong demand remains from the Middle East for live Australian animals and when we can’t meet this demand, it is not filled by Australian boxed meat but by live animals from Sudan, Somalia, Eastern Europe and Asia countries that do not share Australia’s commitment to animal welfare. #farm #sheep #australiananimals #livestock #liveexport #sheepexport #animalwelfare #liveexportaustralia #sheepfarminginaustralia #wapol #auspol #australialiveexport #import #thesheepcollective #sheepcollective #farmer #agriculture #farmwork #australianfarmers #animals #agribusiness #thesheepcollective #export #animalwelfare #liveexport #sheepfarming #farming #agriculture #livestock #wafarms #washeep #waexporting

13.01.2022 Want to help care for our planet? 9 Reasons why you should choose WOOL! 1. NATURAL AND RENEWABLE: Wool is a natural fibre. It has evolved to produce a fabric th...at has become one of the most effective natural forms of all-weather protection known to man. Every year sheep produce a new fleece, making wool a renewable fibre source. Woolgrowers actively work to improve efficiency and care for natural resources, endeavouring to make the wool industry sustainable for future generations. 2. SAFE: Wool has a naturally high UV protection, which is much higher than most synthetics and cotton. 3. FIRE RETARDANT: A fabric made entirely of wool doesn’t readily catch fire. Even if it does, it burns slowly and self-extinguishes when the source of the flame is removed. 4. BIODEGRADABLE: When a natural Merino wool fibre is disposed of it takes only a few years to decompose and can be used to put fertility into soil for crop growing. Most synthetics on the other hand, are extremely slow to degrade. 5. BREATHABLE: Wool has a large capacity to absorb moisture vapour and sweat next to the skin making it extremely breathable. 6. DURABLE: A wool fibre can be bent 20,000 times without breaking and still have the power to recover and return to its natural shape so top quality wool products stay looking good for longer. The natural elasticity of the wool fibre means it stretches with the wearer, but then returns to its natural shape, so there is less chance of garments sagging or losing their shape. 7. EASY CARE: Wool's fibres have a natural protective layer which prevents stains from being absorbed, they also pick up less dust as they are static resistant. Recent innovations mean wool garments are no longer hand-wash only, many wool garments can now be machine-washed and tumble dried. 8. MULTI-CLIMATIC: Wool is active, reacting to changes in your body temperature to keep you warm when you’re cold but releasing heat and moisture when you’re hot. 9. IDEAL AROUND THE HOME: Wool is anti-allergenic making it ideal in bedding and carpets for asthma sufferers as it resists dust mites. Studies show that wool bedding can also aid sleep by up to 25% and is particularly beneficial in helping babies sleep better. Wool is also a natural insulator helping to drive down energy bills. Live Naturally + Choose Wool: it’s warm, safe and gentle on the planet. Join Campaign for Wool and help spread the word. http://www.campaignforwool.org/the-campaign/

08.01.2022 Not a bad drafting method this. Worth a look.

07.01.2022 We wanted to share with you a video of sheep in the feedlot after being unloaded post the industry led moratorium. The voyage took 21 days and discharged in 3 p...orts. Sheep adapted well to voyage conditions and were cared for throughout the journey by an Australian accredited Veterinarian and Australian stockman. Upon arrival they go through another process of care with the feedlot Veterinarian. Some sheep were observed panting during the hottest period, sheep pant to expel heat (similar to a dog) this is a normal response to managing their body temperatures. Mortality rate for this voyage was 0.24%, above 1% is reportable. Vessel also had an Independent Observer on board.

03.01.2022 Pink Eye / Eye Abscess Assist - for farmers and horse owners What is Pinkeye? This remedy was one of the first mix's that I used with great results. At the time... in the late 90's I was running a large property in the Northern Tablelands of NSW. Running 950 Black and Black Baldy cross cattle and 10000 fine wool merino sheep. With the numbers and breed of cattle we had tried a lot of different treatments with mixed results. Most were either very difficult to administer or very time consuming. We sat down and had a good think about the symptoms of pinkeye and blended a couple of traditional homeopathic remedies together to try. It is this mix that we now sell as our pinkeye remedy. It is always nice to here from people that have been amazed with the results of this simple but effective remedy. Pinkeye is a painful, debilitating condition that can severely affect animal productivity. Pinkeye (infectious bovine kerato-conjunctivitis, or IBK) is a bacterial infection of the eye that causes inflammation and, in severe cases, temporary or permanent blindness. Signs of Pinkeye? The first signs seen are: copious watery eye discharge aversion to sunlight signs of irritation: for example, excessive blinking reddening and swelling of the eyelids and the third eyelid. The eye will then go cloudy in the middle and may ulcerate during the next two days. Many animals spontaneously recover at this stage. In a small number of untreated cases, ulceration may progress to abscess formation, with possible rupture of the cornea and permanent blindness. After recovery about 2% of affected eyes have a residual white scar on the cornea. An even smaller percentage progress to abscess formation. At times it can be very hard to know if a infected animal is infected with the bacteria or it just has a grass seed or dust in the eye. This will cause a eye with very the same symptoms as pink eye but is actual a abscess in the eye. It is good to know that this remedy will work on both issues just as effectively. Most animals that are infected will have some form of production lost due to the stress. Animals that are severely affected in both eyes may grow poorly. Milking cows may produce less milk. Cattle become more difficult to muster with blind animals in the herd. Accidental deaths may occur if affected animals fall into dams or are trapped in fences. Using energy remedies we can support the body to release the bacteria that is causing the Pink Eye. Initially you will see discharge from the eye as it clears. Give one dose and repeat in a week if necessary. The result is a clearing of the eye and return of vision. As with all our remedies the Pink Eye Assist is a safe, natural option, with no withholding period. Pink Eye / Eye Abscess Assist remedy is great value with most cases only needing 1-2 doses. For your convenience this remedy comes in a 25ml spray ( approx. 125 doses ) or a 50ml spray (approx. 250 doses) Save you self time, money and your animals health Purchase Today. Testimonial: We have been using the pinkeye remedy for several years now with lots of success. We have used it on bulls, cows, weaners and calves. Also rams, ewe's, lambs, horses, dogs, cats and even ourselves. Any type of sore eye. Usually we only need to use it once, but occasionally have had to repeat it once or twice more. And sometimes have had to ask Eric and Cathy for more help if the eye is still not quite right and have needed to add another remedy such as the Infection remedy or Abscess remedy to push out a grass seed or something. I recently treated a cow with pinkeye in the yards, I checked her several days later and it had improved somewhat but I decided to give her some more remedy and I squirted some on her under her tail, just out in the paddock (our cattle are super quiet, stud shorthorns and rarely need to be yarded just to be treated with remedies). Then I actually forgot to check her eye the next time they were in the yards, so I checked her a couple of days later in the paddock and it was all good. From M. Retallack, Nullamanna, NSW I am very happy with the results I have achieved with using the Heal With Ease Pinkeye Remedy. The product is simple to apply and results in treatment that is effective and less stressful for the animals when applied early. From H. Berecry, Mirabella Angus, Oakwood, NSW Link: http://shophealwithease.bigcartel.com//pink-eye-eye-absces
