22.01.2022 Wearing a face masks is one of our many new norms, but for many children seeing adults covering their face can be overwhelming At Buckle we have been using a social story to highlight this change As the name implies, social stories are brief descriptive stories that provide accurate information about a social situation. These stories clarify social expectations using visuals and specific sentence structures. Knowing what to expect by using a Social Story can help our children understand and visually see our new way of life

16.01.2022 Today we held a drive through Coronavirus (Covid-19) Screening for TMHS staff. In 3hrs we tested close to 100 staff members. This has been a recommendation fro...m the government as we actively try to identify any positive cases within the community. Tomorrow we will continue the screening and open it to eligible asymptomatic Community members as below. It will be between 11am-2pm. Please bring your Medicare card and enter via the laundry drive just prior to hospital entrance. Swabs are limited so screening will finish earlier if supplies run out. Eligible population groups for these voluntary asymptomaticscreenings the result of the government broadening its testing criteria to better understand how the virus is spreading in the community includes workers in construction, agriculture, health care, aged care, supermarkets, retail and emergency services (including police, firefighters, prison officers, paramedics, and volunteer emergency workers). People with a chronic disease, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people are also regarded as vulnerable and encouraged to take up this screening. 15.01.2022 When we balance your Family Tax Benefit (FTB), we'll work out if you can get any top ups or supplement payments. If you owe us money, we may use your FTB top up...s and supplements to recover your debt. Previously we only used these payments to recover family assistance debts, now we can use them to recover a broader range of Centrelink debts. We'll do this even if you have a payment arrangement in place. If your top up or supplement amount is more than the total of your Centrelink debt, we'll pay you what's remaining once your Centrelink debt is fully repaid. If the total of your Centrelink debt is more than your top up or supplement amount, your existing payment arrangement will continue until the debt is repaid. 08.01.2022 Settling a child into an early childhood setting is a tumultuous time filled with high emotion, nervousness and anxiety. As both a parent and a teacher and even... though my children have come with me to work, it hasnt taken away from the tremendous sense of loss that I have felt each time I took them to their room, kissed their forehead and left them in the care of their teachers. I trusted the teachers implicitly but that didnt lessen the grief I felt knowing they felt sad that I was leaving even if Id spent time settling them into their new environment. The truth is that no child is the same, no parent or caregiver is the same and no teacher is the same. We experience emotions, situations and routines differently. Over time though I have identified three ways to help make the setting process as anxiety free and as respectfully as possible. Preparation - theres nothing like being prepared. Not just physically but emotionally as well. Children look to us as their pillars - parents and teachers alike. They follow our cues. Visits are crucially important. Short visits that present the trip to the centre as a positive experience where the parents/caregivers and teachers trust one another and talk to each other positively in front of the child. Each visit getting longer, the child becoming more familiar with the routines and social expectations in their new environment. Consistency - the visits are important but the frequency and length of those visits are equally important. As are the routines of getting ready, getting in the car and arriving at the centre. Keeping things the same way before and after their first day will mean that children know exactly what to do and when to do it. They become familiar with people, routines and practices. Partnerships - the single most important part of settling. The partnership between parents/caregivers and teachers will have the biggest impact on how well or not so well children settle. If the communication is strong, if the conversations are filled with warmth, respect and positivity and if there is a genuine trusting relationship between the childs first teachers (their parents/caregivers) and their second teachers - there is no reason why a child settling into a centre cant be a positive, fluid and enjoyable one.
