25.01.2022 Cubs scouts on the Stove! After welcoming our latest Cub scout (linking from Joey), the patrols went about on a scavenger hunt for ingredients, then our super Cub Scouts worked their magic in the kitchen!! Under careful supervision of leaders, our Cubs made two sets of nachos!! Team A vs Team B! Who would win this mexican challenge? Who will rein as the nacho king? You just have to look at the wonderful job of smashed avocados with "liberal" amount of lemon juice and "genero...us sized" chopped tomatoes, to see both teams are the winner.. dishing out a healthy snack to all other Scouts. 24.01.2022 22 August 2020 - Bardon Park - Youth activity As many of you know, our Scouts group share the temple facilities and is often working within space constraints. For this youth meeting, we decided to meet at the local Bardon Park in Maylands. We are so lucky the weather turned sunny with a slight breeze, a break in cold spells signalling the onset of spring that is to come soon. We had our opening ceremony on the lush greens and blue skies!! Today we were proud to link our Jo...eysCubs, and CubsScouts... such an amazing group of youths to see them grow out from their shell and hone their scouting skills as they progress through the program! of course, our linking isnt just walking from one section to another, they had some obstacles to overcome, much like their scouting journey.. always learning always ready. After the formal ceremony, our youths settle into their usual activities.. Scout sections were pitching tents (boys vs girls).. the parents and leaders inspected the tents and no doubt, the girls did it better. Good job girls!! Cubs had some water bombing exercises and practice with paper plane folding which is part of their STEM learning. As for our Joeys, they were busy learning knots and skipping ropes.. 23.01.2022 25 July 2020 - Investiture Day and 1st Day back for Term 3! Our first meeting for Term 3 back at the Temple, aka our Scout Hall. We had the honour to invest and welcome into our scouting family, Nicole. She was invested by the Scout Unit and is officially part of us now! 20.01.2022 Our youths had a fantastic meeting last Saturday, in preparation for Mothers Day . Joeys Our lil Joeys had a paper plane project which was to fold a plane and try it 3 times, each time improving on the distance to see how to make it fly further. The Joeys also did their bit in helping moms on the special day!... Cubs Cubs designed a Bingo challenge for Mother Day based on the 3 acts of goodness Do good deeds, Say good words, Think good thoughts. They had to come up with 3 things that they can do for mum and then populate the bingo chart with these examples. The end result was a beautiful Bingo chart which was shared with all the other sections to take part in as well. It was so popular that we decided to extend it for another week so that our youths can also carry out their acts of goodness to Dad and siblings. Scouts Leader Kenshin showed the Scouts how to create a simple Mothers Day card which they folded on the spot and got the Scouts to secretly to slip it under Mums pillow as a surprise on Mothers Day Sunday! Along with other Cubs from around WA, great weather and fantastic set up by Scouts WA, our Cubs had so much fun and were spoilt for choice with so much activities! The Cubs tried their hands on numerous things like making a musical instrument, climbing the vertical wall, finding the gnome, race karts, obstacle courses, water slide, etc. BUT what really caught their attention.. This ritual is significant because it is a re-enactment of the heavenly dragons showering baby Buddha with fragrant rain upon his birth. 17.01.2022 1st Face to Face Scouting since lockdown! ==Including Throwbacks to Scouting @Home== For the very first time since the easing of COVID restrictions, our Scout section met at the temple for their youth meeting. ... It was not only exciting to see each other again but also a special occasion to witness the investiture of our latest Scout youth, Alexander Smith as he took his promise and formally joined the Scouting family. The afternoon was spent checking their preparedness in packing for a day hike and going through the Outdoor Adventure Skill booklet for level 1 and 2 of the bushwalking skill. Our Scouts were having so much fun planning activities that they realise they needed funding and so they decided they like run a fundraising project to fund their outdoor activities. Next week, they will explore the possibilities of a garage sale. So please keep an eye out as more information will surely come soon. This will be a great opportunity for these eager youths to learn organising and coordinating events by themselves. Meanwhile, the Cubs had a wonderful session learning and discovering about space and the astronauts life in a space shuttle. To top it off, they were given time to draw or make a space shuttle out of recycled material and everyone of them showed their creativity in so many ways! Now for the throwback, since we begun virtual Scouting, our youths were more engaged than ever. The activities held online were becoming the new normal, our youths were becoming more confident and engaging at the same time. Coupled with the leaders ingenious online activities and ground rules, Scouting@Home has become second nature to many. From the last few meetings, our group is happy to report Joeys having a virtual Easter egg hunt ever wonder how that is done? Then look at the last picture of this post, try your hunting skills and test your eyes. Joeys also had time to write and present on who their role models are and collect recyclables to discuss about recycling and the impacts. Our Cubs planned an activity about "Adventure & the Outdoors" and created Australian animals using recycled materials! With the new program, there is a Plan>Do>Review so our Cubs wrote a review in their Scouting booklet and presented at the virtual meeting sharing with other cubs of their achievements! 16.01.2022 We commemorated the 54th Anniversary of Fo Guang Shan yesterday 16th May by joining BLIA members worldwide in Sutra Transcribing but in a simplified way. Our youths wrote the 3 Acts of Goodness in Chinese - Do good deeds, say good words, think good thoughts. Pleased to see them so focused on the writing and enjoying the experience.

11.01.2022 8 Aug 2020 Awards and badges were presented to our youths for their continued Scouting during lockdown.. scouting@home. And whilst we been working under the new youth program for awhile now, we finally had the chance to issue our youths their transition badges too. The whole procession was led by our capable Scout emcees, they spent lots of time rehearsing and timing themselves. Great Job Nicole and Lawrence! We were honoured to have Delshard our new Swan District Commis...sioner visiting us, whom graciously handed out the badges and shared his own Scouting experience! A big thank you to Delshard! Post the opening ceremony, parents were invited to stay to understand and discuss upcoming activities. Our groups view is to involve parents where possible, not just for the fundraising and administrative nature BUT also be involved in supporting their youths through this Scouting Journey. We had a great discussion with lotsa ideas shared... cant wait to see them come to fruition in the coming months! Whilst the parents were busy chatting in the mess hall, our scout troop went about their scouting activities. Cubs explored the physics of parachuting.. using weights and plastic bags. 11.01.2022 Saturday Reunion Hike Lesmurdie Falls After WA eases its CoVid19 restrictions, this was our first face to face meeting in 3 months. And we are glad we chose Lesmurdie Falls which was pumping with water after recent rainfall! The youths and parents met early at the top of the waterfall carpark and made their way to the lookout . Guided by our Venerable MiaoLi, the group arrived at the lookout admiring its wonderful waterfall!! We are so lucky to be able to hike fr...eely in WA. At that point, the Joeys were suppose to turn back and follow the easier cascade route but seeing the Scout and Cub section progressing down to the foot of the falls, the Joeys wanted in too! And a courageous bunch they are.. down they went quickly catching up to the other youths. Once the group reached the bottom, everyone was so excited, youths were playing in the pools, parents taking photos and just enjoying its beauty . Everyone took a quick break before heading back up the slippery and rocky steps. Though we did not loose any youths, there were a few slips and scrapes on the way up.. nothing a quick wash and antiseptic cream cant fix... onwards and upwards they go.. Once back at HQ (aka top of the falls carpark), the youths just started digging into their lunch and hot milo.. yum! A quick review and planning session followed whilst the parents gained their strength and had a quick lunch. Thereafter, everyone pitched in and packed up HQ. Just as we finished and left, the heavens opened up and poured more rain.. Lucky we are! 08.01.2022 Archery - Bow and Arrows 1 August 2020 What do we do when Covid 19 restriction eases? Shoot some targets! The BLIA WA Scouts group were out in full force to learn this ancient art of archery! Under the careful guidance of the Scouts WA Mobile Archery Range (MAR) team, our youths learnt how to handle the bow and arrows... in a coordinated fashion under the spritz of the whistle. With each command, the youths stood up to the line, held their bows and on another whistle, the ...frenzy begins.. Youths were fumbling to attach arrows whilst some were already getting shots off and there are others just hitting it dead on. It was a sight to behold with the youths seemingly knowing what they needed to do albeit with a little coaching from the expert handlers. I stand in awe and wonder if archery had ignited primal instincts and desires to use a bow and arrow.. Who said Scouting is just dib dib dob dob?! 06.01.2022 Joey Leap 2020 Every year Joey Leap is an event for the entire WA state's Joey Scouts to come together and just have FUN! Due to Covid, it was nearly cancelled but thanks to all Western Australia who endured the lock down, we were able to return to a new normal. This meant Our most anticipated Joey Leap Event goes ahead!! YEAH!!... It is great to see our littlest Joey youth having fun and challenging themselves to new activities. Some of these activities are not something they experience in a school setting or day to day.. this is what makes Scouting special. Just look at how our little ones tread across a bridge made of ropes, practise archery , fire gas powered "potato" guns, volcano experiments... what a ball they had!! This is only possible because of dedicated volunteers from various branches of Scouts WA and adventure/activity teams (e.g. Scouts WA Mobile Archery Range (MAR), Pioneering, Scitech, etc.) coming together to put on such an amazing event. 06.01.2022 Stay at home but not alone! Virtual Scout Meeting - the first for many of our youths! Using apps such as Zoom for the first time, our youths and leaders had a bit of adjusting to.. learning how to mute microphones that magically unmutes itself.. managing everyone talking at once.. youths talking to each other as if it was one to one.. all the hallmarks of a chaotic virtual meeting! Nonetheless, our dedicated leaders took charge setting some basic ground rules to e...stablish some form of order with each youth taking turns. The order was quickly restored and meeting began to take shape and take course... Zooming to our littlest youths, our Joeys went through their first virtual meeting really well under the careful guidance of their leaders. If the littlest of the littlest scout can learn and manage to meet over Zoom, surely everyone else can! Cubs took it the next level on their first meeting with some online-realtime interactive Pictionary! (not easy using a mouse to draw).. Kudos to the Cubs section. Without a doubt, social distancing is here to stay for a while, but as Scouts, we are always prepared and always ready to challenge ourselves. With support from Scouts WA sharing their resources on virtual scouting, it made possible for our youths to stay home, continue scouting and stay connected to the group, the community and the world! 04.01.2022 In light of the increasing situation of COVID-19 in Western Australia, Scouts WA is giving a current statement to support and guide our members in the State. The risk of transmission in Australia remains low; however, the situation is evolving. Western Australians should remain alert, but not be alarmed. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by practising good hand hygiene and sneeze/cough etiquette. This includes reminding members:... -Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet -Cover your cough and sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser -If people are unwell, avoid contact with others (stay more than 1.5 metres from people) -Remind people not to attend if they are sick with respiratory symptoms Recommend people dont attend Scouting events or meetings if they have been overseas within 14 days to the countries listed on the Department of Health website -Groups are reminded about the importance of good personal hygiene including hand washing with single use towels, not sharing cups and cutlery, making sure washing of cutlery and crockery is appropriate and observing personal space See more

02.01.2022 Tree Planting Day Sat 4th July 2020 @Lightning Park, Noranda Our Scouts group had been looking forward to our first unofficial foray into face to face activities after months of Scouting@home. We joined BLIA, YAD, MP for Perth Mr Patrick Gorman, Councillor Sally Palmer from City of Bayswater and Friends of Lightning Park at this annual event to plant trees. ... Whilst the intention is to regenerate the reserve, it is also a good opportunity for our youths to learn about the positive impacts of such acts. With a regenerated native bush, it can become habitats for local wildlife and prevent further soil erosion. From our efforts all morning, digging away and planting, the entire contingent which we were part of planted over 4,000 saplings!! Never the less, all work and no play just doesnt sit with our youths.. it was not long during their tea break, the Scout youths decided to enjoy the outdoors, running and romping around the oval. This Tree planting activity is an annual event that we all look forward to every year, as it gives us an opportunity to give back to the wonderful local community and have fun at the same time! 01.01.2022 14 March 20 Scout Youth meeting.. Amidst backdrop of increasing CoVid-19 cases in Australia, our Scout group came prepared for this youth meeting! Step 1 - check temperatures of youths, leaders and parents. ... Step 2 - check in with full name, time and temperature reading. (Check them out end of session too, this helps in contact tracing) Step 3 - Hand sanitising time. Step 4 - PLAY TIME!! Today was also special as we invited all parents in for a meeting to provide updates on recent Scout advice and answer any queries .. as our Group Leader says it:"you send your child to our group, it is our responsibility to protect them!" It is with this wholesome view, our parents supported our initiatives! Go Scouting... Yeah!! Now back to our youths, especially our Scout unit, they been busy practising their knots getting ready for Swantiki 2020!
