25.01.2022 We’re really thrilled to announce our plans to open a new Buddies ELC in McKinnon. This new centre will go a long way to meeting the educational and cultural needs of our ever expanding Buddies community. The centre will cover two adjacent sites at 296 Jasper Rd. and 2 Lewis St. McKinnon ( between North Rd. and McKinnon Rd.) which is central to our current Buddies’ centres. We’ll be designing the centre to cater for around 100 children ranging in age from young babies to pre-...school. Planning will commence soon and hopefully we can start construction around mid-2021 so we can open to take new families in the second half of 2022. Exciting times ahead.

24.01.2022 Slime was the name of the game today at Buddies Jasper road. Sensory play allows our children to utilise and understand all 5 senses at once which leads to creativity and learning through exploration. Im so dirty! It looks wet but its not This is the best fun!

23.01.2022 This morning the Jasper Juniors got a big surprise- Yarden brought in her dog Zara! The children were so excited to learn all about Zara and how they can approach her and other dogs in their community in a safe way - we make our hand into a fist and the dog can smell it. The children each took turns to pat Zara safely. Our children said- My dogs name is Woof Woof!... I have a dog at home too Shes so happy, she looks like a teddy My dog is called Schnitzel I have a bulldog called Bruce She doesnt have many teeth because shes a bit old See more

22.01.2022 The Jasper Seniors have extended on their space project by sharing the idea of creating their very own rocket ship so they can undertake space adventures into the unknown! They decided to make the rocket out of a huge box which got the children very excited... especially when their whole bodies got involved in the painting process! The best part was that they ended off the decorating process with a complementary foot spa!

21.01.2022 Lighting candles for Shabbat is symbolic for bringing in the Sabbath and is one of the traditions of Kabbalah Shabbat. At Buddies we light the candles and say the blessing every Friday! !

21.01.2022 Chag Tu B’shevat sameach! Buddies Jasper road celebrated the birthday of the trees by planting seedings with our gardening fairy Gina. The purple carrots are so beautiful! I can’t wait for my tomatoes to grow

21.01.2022 With Rosh Hashana coming up, the children at Buddies and at home logged into a Zoom call with Rabbi Yitzi, where he showed us how to make a shofar, talking about what animal horns we can use and he then blew the shofar for us all to hear! While we cant have visitors at the moment, it is so important for us to still keep our connection with the Jewish festivals - Thank you Rabbi Yitzi and The Shofar Factory!

21.01.2022 Today Buddies Grange celebrated Mexico and El Salvadors Independence Day - their birthday!! Our educators Daniela and Carolina taught all the children in the centre about their cultures, turning the piazza into a fun zone decked out with bright and colourful decorations, Spanish resources and festive music. The children all had the opportunity to make their own tortillas, mixing maize flour and water together to create the dough. They then rolled a portion into a ball and put it on the tortilla press, or in between two plates, to flatten it out. Ardina cooked them on a frying pan and the children enjoyed their tortillas with salsa and guacamole. It is so important for children to learn about all different cultures, and we love that our educators take the children on their cultural journeys with them!

21.01.2022 The children at Buddies Grange made cards and pictures for the beautiful people residing at the Aged Care Facility, Sheridan Hall. Just in time for Rosh Hashanah, we wanted to share some love and give back to our local community. We are so excited to be forming this connection with them and were looking forward to continuing this relationship

21.01.2022 The Nesties used the ice chalk that they made themselves to draw with in the natural environment - the great outdoors! After experimenting with the liquid by pushing and drawing with their fingers, they got out regular chalk and continued to express their creativity as they drew incredible images. Its a balloon! I have blue hands now. ... Its cold. I draw circle! See more

20.01.2022 Our Buddies Spoonville is growing! Support our communitys mental health and well-being by bringing a smile to our faces and planting a spoon at either Buddies Jasper and Grange Road.

19.01.2022 Wishing all of our Buddies families a sweet new year, filled with good health and happiness for all Shabbat is extra special tonight because it is also Rosh Hashanah! All of the Buddies children loved incorporating the elements of Rosh Hashanah into Kabbalat Shabbat today.

17.01.2022 The Chag of Rosh Hashona is on Friday evening and today our Buddies children at home and at our centres had a zoom visit from Holly the beekeeper and her bees. Holly showed us around her farm as well as how her bees make honey for us to dip our apples and challah into for Rosh Hashona. How many eggs does the queen bee lay? We see lots of bees in the garden in spring How does a baby bee become a big bee? Thank you Hollys backyard bees for such an awesome incursion!

17.01.2022 Wishing all of our Buddies families a Shabbat Shalom, and a safe and restful weekend!

15.01.2022 After their full body clay experience yesterday, the Toddlers came downstairs to the mud pit today! All suited up, they got in and jumped in the puddles, buried their toes and explored the texture of the wet mud in between their fingers. Such endless learning opportunities! Its cold! Im jumping in the muddy puddle like Peppa! ... Its in my toes!! See more

14.01.2022 The Grange Seniors became Explorers today as they came in today to find some computer parts, wires and screwdrivers. Everyday they use different gadgets and machines but its what makes them work from the inside that is very interesting! After talking about how to be safe, the children got to work exploring these different parts. Here is a propeller to make the computer cool! This is the electricity. If you put a wire here therell be more electricity.... Im taking out all the screws so I can get inside and then we can fix it! See more

14.01.2022 The Jasper Seniors created and worked together to set up their own obstacle course this morning. They discussed where to place the equipment as well as the interesting and safe design. Let’s put this here I think the ladder should be the highest It’s safe and ready for us

12.01.2022 Today Jinky did the Colour Changing Flower Science Experiment with the Nesties and Toddlers. This experiment shows our budding scientists how plants absorb water to nourish the entire plant and petals. By adding colouring to the water, it highlights the movement of the water into the flower petals. The children will now observe and keep track of the flowers and discuss their findings daily.

12.01.2022 The Jasper Seniors are exploring the concept of why they love our beautiful and vast continent Australia through a wall map and the book, I love Australia by Bronwyn Bancroft. They are expressing their responses through their own interpretations and creative art. I love Australia because I love rainbows and the sea. Australia is beautiful ... I love Australia because I love kookaburras and they live in big trees. See more

12.01.2022 At Buddies, we teach our children the concept of sustainability and the importance of how to care for the environment in order to have a better future. At Buddies Grange, our youngest children have made their own watering cans out of old milk bottles, in which they poked some holes in the lid. Each day they water the herbs and plants that they have planted in their magic garden, having a taste of the deliciousness while they water! The Seniors have noticed some birds that li...ke to visit the yard when theyre inside, pecking on the floor for any leftover morning tea they can find! They used oranges to make their own bird feeders, ensuring that they used the entire orange and didnt waste any of it. This meant they squeezed the oranges to make delicious orange juice, before filling the emptied out oranges with sunflower seeds. They then chose different spots in the magic garden to hang them up. I hope a bird comes soon! Do you think the birds will like the seeds?

12.01.2022 The Senior and Juniors at Grange Rd, had the opportunity to learn about density today in their Hebrew lesson. First they discussed what animals live in salt water and fresh water. Sharks live in salty water Crocodiles live in fresh water!... Sharks - Crocodiles- Method: They filled one jar with salt water and another jar with fresh water They used blue / and pink / colouring, and with a pipette dropped a few drops of the food colouring into both jars. Results: The children noticed that the colouring in the salt water floated towards the top of the jar Its floating And the colouring in the fresh water jar sunk to the bottom. Its all at the bottom Conclusion: The children discussed their findings. We explained to them that the colour or animals float in salty water because the salt increases the density of the water. Theres no salt in the fresh water so the colour and animals sink to the bottom.

12.01.2022 Today is RUOK?day. A national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that its okay to ask are you okay?. At Buddies we encourage our children and staff to show how much they care, love and support about each other and their families. Simple steps to get a conversation started can be found at www.ruok.org.au

12.01.2022 Last week Asher from Buddies Jasper brought in his chocolate chip cookie recipe and we decided to get baking. Luckily we have great Senior helpers! We cant wait to eat them for our afternoon snack.

10.01.2022 The Nesties and Toddlers took part in a fun new ball game today, exploring the concepts of light and heavy. Using a bed sheet and some light balls, they shook and shook, trying to keep all the balls on the sheet. They noticed that they didnt have to shake too hard for the balls to fly up high. Then, a few basketballs were put on the sheet, and they found their muscles needed to work a bit harder to make them fly up!

09.01.2022 Today kicked off the start of Science week, and this year the theme is Deep Blue. The Grange Juniors and Seniors took part in a science experiment, creating an ocean with swimming fish (rice in a bicarb and vinegar solution). We value experiments as they provide children with scientific concepts such as hypothesising, estimating and trial and error. Its going to explode one of the children predicted... and he was right! Half the fun of experiments is the process, and things not always working out how we predicted. They were very excited when their ocean exploded and asked to keep repeating this process!

08.01.2022 Shabbat Shalom to our Buddies families!

08.01.2022 What a sign from the universe!! A big, bright rainbow shone over both Buddies this afternoon and we cant help but be reminded that we are indeed all in this together We know tomorrow brings a lot of worry and uncertainty for the Buddies family, but please be rest assured that this will be a quick 6 weeks and we will all be back together before you know it. Keep safe, be strong and this is not goodbye, it is see you soon!

08.01.2022 The Jasper Seniors have been talking about what they love about Australia and what it means to them. Today they enjoyed making an Australian favourite, Anzac biscuits. That is where we come from They measured, tasted, mixed, rolled and shaped the dough to form the most delicious end product.

08.01.2022 At Buddies we isntil the importance of helping others and the mitzvah of giving regular tzedakah to different charities throughout the year. We teach the children about giving back to our community and how the money we give on Shabbat goes to people and animals in need. Shabbat Shalom!

08.01.2022 The Toddlers explored with clay today, using their entire bodies in the process! They spread out on a big tarp and got to work with water and clay, moulding it, throwing it, rolling it... really doing anything you can think of! Clay is an incredible open ended sensory experience that allows children to express themselves in so many different ways.

08.01.2022 At Buddies we know that teamwork makes the dream work! To recognise the achievements of working as a team the children spent the morning collaboratively making carrot cake and acting out a story book in Hebrew Music and movement - Everyone was very proud of the accomplishment made when the carrot was successfully removed from the ground and used to make a delicious carrot cake!... Shaqed needs our help, she isnt strong enough The mouse will pull it out We need a carrot for our cake See more

07.01.2022 The Toddlers extended on their interest in colours and experiments. They created The Leakproof Bag, filling jars with water and their favourite colour dye. Then using their hand eye coordination they poured their coloured water into ziplock bags. Mine is blue My favourite colour is yellow... The bags were then hung outside to begin the experiment! With sharpened pencil colours the children each got a turn to push the pencils through the zip lock bags and see if the bag would leak or burst. The results for the Toddlers was that 2 out of the 5 bags leaked! Hypothesising, observing and discussing the results with the children introduces them to scientific concepts of learning.

06.01.2022 Today is Early Childhood Educators Day! Today, and everyday, we celebrate and recognise our educators for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and development of the children at Buddies. We appreciate all of you. Thank you for everything you do

04.01.2022 National Science Week 2020 is here with the theme of 'Deep Blue - innovations for the future of our oceans! Today the Jasper Road Juniors experimented with different ways to save the sea animals from the frozen ice - through trial and error they used paint brushes, hammers and even added water as a way to melt away the icebergs! Our Junior childrens voice: The animals need saving, we are their savers... Theyre all stuck, how did they get stuck inside? Ive saved a fish Kara, look! How many animals have you saved? See more

04.01.2022 Today Grange got some fresh mulberry leaves, with lots of berries hiding amongst the leaves. The Seniors and Juniors loved looking at the berries and learning about the process of ripening. They noticed there were lots of green, white, red and even black berries too. You can only eat them when they’re red or black! At the park I go to they have a HUGE mulberry tree and I climb it and try the berries.

04.01.2022 To maintain a sense of community and keep connections with our Buddies families that cannot attend due to stage 4 restrictions, Sam and Gina delivered ice creams over the past two days. Some of the comments from families after receiving their surprise delivery: Thank you Gina and Sam and everyone at Buddies!... Thank you for your lovely thoughts and gesture, Sam, Gina and all the team at Buddies! Definitely put a smile on our kids faces! So sweet that Gina dropped in ice creams today. The girls were absolutely thrilled! You guys are the best. Thank you for the beautiful surprise. So thoughtful and kind!

04.01.2022 Wishing our Buddies community a beautiful Shabbat Shalom

03.01.2022 The Grange Seniors created their own game outside which explored the concepts of early literacy and numeracy. The children helped their educators draw different shapes and put numbers inside. They then called out a shape or a number and the children jumped, skipped, ran or even hopped to that shape or number. This then extended into the children drawing a very large caterpillar with the alphabet in it, and a different kind of hopscotch was played. Im drawing a rectangle ...Im going to draw a star. That shape has FOUR side and that one has six! See more

03.01.2022 Shabbat Shalom from our family to yours. Please stay safe and look after yourself and your loved ones

03.01.2022 Today the Grange Buddies were introduced to a new fruit - a pomelo! They held the fruit and rolled it to one another - its a ball! There were lots of surprised faces as their educator began to cut into their ball! Lots of laughs could be heard as some of the children put the outer peel onto their heads! I have a funny hat on! They then all had the opportunity to taste this new fruit. It tastes yummy. I dont like it.

02.01.2022 !! Wishing all of our families Shabbat Shalom, and hope you all have a fun weekend!

02.01.2022 Our Seniors at Buddies Jasper love making potions with anything they can find in the outdoor environment. Today they creatively made their own potions in ice trays to freeze. This is a tool for play and investigation by giving our children the natural resources to design a potion. It gives them the freedom to create in their own way. Our children commented- The secret ingredient is a bug! Squishy, squishy... Smashing the leaves is so much fun! See more

02.01.2022 To celebrate Tu Bishvat, the Toddlers took part in some planting today. They each planted a piece of potato, so we can also watch the science behind potatoes over an extended period of time. The children were able to tell us that plants need soil, water and sun to grow, so that’s what they did! After planting the potato in soil, they took turns to water their own pots and then found a nice sunny spot by the window for it to live. We can’t wait to see what happens to the Toddlers potatoes!

01.01.2022 Last week Wednesday Gina hosted an Evening of Clay, Cheese and Wine... Families who chose to take part were gifted a block of clay and logged in for a session on how to make pinch pots and given the 101 basics of clay making from our in house Potter Gina! It was a great evening filled with lots of laughter, funny iso related stories and surprisingly therapeutically gratifying! ... Thank-you! It was so much fun and also on a personal level not something I had done before and didnt realise the effects from it! It was so relaxing and enjoyable!-Jana
