20.01.2022 This is a link to an article about a few old friends which gives an insight into the values, thoughts and insights in practising a koryu in the modern era. https://budojapan.com//toda-ha-buko-ryu-from-chichibu-to-/

19.01.2022 Last month we also farewelled senior koryu practitioner Nathan Turk who is off to New York to complete his Masters in law. Hopefully he will be able to train with some old friends whilst there. He also made it to yodan in Aikido at the same time as long-time practitioner Andrew O'Neill received his san dan. Well done guys - and come back with some more input Nathan.

17.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I advise that Matsuda Ryuchi Sensei died last week of a heart attack. He was 75. Matsuda Sensei was my first teacher of xing yi, ba gua and shaolin chuan. He was coach of the famous Waseda Uni Wushu Team and a wonderful, cheerful and sharing teacher. He is a great loss.

16.01.2022 I found this interesting series of interviews whilst looking for a you tube video of Xingyi chuan which I had previously accessed. Hope you may find it interesting: https://taichinotebook.wordpress.com/category/xingyi/

16.01.2022 Best wishes to all our friends and students (past and present, in Adelaide and Melbourne) for Christmas and the New Year and special thanks to Master Chu Yucheng and his students for hosting me during October/November. Thanks also to Nathan, Jason and Simon for taking classes during my absence. First training 14th January.

11.01.2022 Yesterday,in conjunction with the Hub Rec Centre, I conducted a brief self defence course for some of the girls from Aberfoyle Hub high school. They all seemed to enjoy themselves and provided lots of good input with some really thought-provoking questions. Well done girls.

08.01.2022 Chu Guiting's grandson for those of you who haven't seen it. Check out his Yang style on his linked page - it's more like Wang's with the steps.

08.01.2022 Just spent a week at the IJF gasshuku in Brisbane with Glen Henry sensei and his super hospitable group. It was good to catch up with old friends like Paul Maloney, Mike Yates, Warwick Hooke and Larry Bieri as well as old Aiki friends from Brissy. Thanks to Glen and the Rembuden group and to Pascal Kieger sensei for their patience as we tried to adapt to their style.

08.01.2022 Welcome to the newest valued addition to our tight knit community. Simon Roberts-Thompson has joined us from Liam Keeley’s outstanding classes in Melbourne. To those who haven’t met Simon please make him welcome. Full story here: http://www.budokaiaustralia.com/latest-news

07.01.2022 Vale: Bruce Harris menkyo kaiden This morning I received the sad news of the passing of Bruce Harris in Sydney. Bruce was the most senior of the original 3 Shindo Muso ryu students of Paul Maloney sensei at the Sydney dojo. He was my sempai when I first started in 1980 and was a superb practitioner, wonderful teacher and all round good guy. You'll be sadly missed Bruce. RIP.

04.01.2022 It's been a big 6 months for the koryu section of Budokai as we hosted old warrior and friend from Perth, Derek Woodhouse for some Shindo Muso ryu training and a little Taijichuan. Derek will be popping in again this month for some more of the same, before heading to Melbourne to link up with Liam Keeley shihan.

02.01.2022 The real reason we train!

02.01.2022 For any who have noticed the absence of Warwick Noble Sensei, he is taking the month off to complete his PHD. This success will give us 3 PHDs, 1 masters holder and a couple of double degree holders. These people all emphasize our dedication to the cultivation of mind, spirit and body!
